help! messed idle and overheating - Click HERE for Original Thread

GTS Jeff
my car developed a problem tonite. it idles at around 3300 "sometimes"...like whenever i clutch in it will go to 3300rpm on its own. also, the engine overheats easily...like if i go beyond 2500rpm the engine will begin to overheat. the coolant vapor is coming from the engine block and not from the rad pressure cap SO what im guessing is that the thermostat is wack and isnt sending coolant to my rad at all...which would explain hte overheating and maybe the intermittent high idling. the rad seems cool to the touch even after driving....and i can smell the coolant everywhere

help! i need to fix this asap..thanks

you have a coolant leak and you are low on coolant....find the leak...repair it and your problems will go away along as that you have not create new problems...

If you have a leak slip a piece of cardboard under your car overnight it will show you where about your leak is at. a simple test for thermostats is to put them in boiling water if it opens its is good. if you have to change it buy one of those fail safe ones if the thermostat fails it opens up to allow coolant to continue to flow. hopefully you have not created further damage to the engine.
