Moving to Edmontonn Area.... - Click HERE for Original Thread

Snowslide
SO, I think I am going to be moving to the Edmonton area, but I am not sure where I will live exactly. Probably want to live outside the city somewhere. Thinking Sherwood Park, St. Albert, Fort Saskatewan or somewhere like that. Looking for a newer subdivision, somewhere a bit quiet, but not too far from some decent ammenities. Grocery store, movie theater, crack house... you know, the good stuff. Anyone feel like shedding some light on the subject?

Thanks in advance,
*mike*

I noticed south of the south common (theaters , food , clothes , ect...) theres tons of new buildings going up just south of the ellerslie. Its growing fast there lots of stores a 5 minute drive away.
As for the crack houses :dunno: just follow some old woman with a big ass as she obviously has a crack house strapped behind her just dont get sucked in :) hope that helps.

Can't go wrong with Sherwood Park or St. Albert. Nice developments going on in both "cities". The Fort is alittle more of a drive to get into the city, so that's something to consider.

Don't know what price range you're looking at, but there are some nice "average" communities still being developed within Edmonton:

Terwillergar Towne - Southwest
Parkland - West
Summerside - South

yeah st albert is good, i know about 3 people that live in st albert that are from fort mcmurray and they all like it, including myself.

right on, thanks for the input!
gonna have to get down for a couple days and just drive around a bit I guess!

peace,

Good luck with the hunt!
Both St. Albert & Sherwood Park are nice cities but they are situated on very different "sides" of Edmonton

From my understanding:
St. Albert = easier access to north & west side of Edmonton since it's located in the North West

Sherwood Park = easy access to downtown edmonton & south side, MAYBE north side because they can hit Yellowhead Trail???

so if say you are going to be working downtown, Sh. Park might be a better city.

:dunno:

I live just out side of Sherwood Park on an acerage. Are you wanting to live in town or on an acerage? Sherwood Park has lots of new stuff going up both in town and just on the out skirts. Sherwood Park is pretty close to everything and lies between the Whitemud and Yellow Head so you can anywhere pretty quick.

Good on ya for getting the hell out of Fort Crap. I hate that place.

My vote goes for St. Albert. I grew up there, and when I sell the condo I'll be buying a house there.

i live in edmonton, but right on the outskirts. i find it a very nice sub division, since its fairly new and new houses are going up constantly. close to grocery store, theater, whatever you need. the only thing it isn't lose to is schools.

im talking about castlebrook 176 ave and 97st. i look out my back yard and see the highway, so it doesn't really feel your in the city.

i follow real estate pretty closely, due to the fact that my dad is involved in real estate, but the best location for you to live will all depend on how much you are willing to spend..

whats your price range?
do you want a house or apartment?
do you want to own or rent?
what do you want close by?
what are some ammenities do you care for? (ie parking stall, garage..)

bigmack000
St. a all the way :)

We'll have to go down and have a look around, but right now we will be looking at some of the newer developments around St. Albert, Sherwood Park, and looking at some of them around Edmonton like Ellerslie.
We will be buying somewhere in the 200-300K range.
Garage is a must for sure!!

Peace,

Spruce Grove as well, i live in a newer subdivision there (Lakewood) and i can be at west ed in 10 minutes or so. Plus the same place here will be 20K or so cheaper than it will in St A or SP

H YA!!

It takes me 25 minutes to get to downtown Edmonton from the northeast end of st.albert so it's not too bad. St. Albert is a great city with all of your needs taken care of. Movies (10min away, food, CHICKS, and of course we have the best crack houses around. You will pay more for taxes but you will get better services. Trees on every street, snow plows are everywhere in the winter and the bus service is decent. Great walking paths along the river which Sherwood Prk doesnt have. Also, you can get to the north or west side of edmonton in 15 min. Downtown and east in 25, sherwood park in 35 and the south in 40. Trust me. I have worked in Serwood park, Southside and the westend. I went to highschool and college downtown and have many friends in the north side. Im not pulling those numbers out of my ass. The police services here are also good. The cops here let alot of little stuff go but they respond to everything. We also have a casino and a nice small downtown with great restraunts if you want to take a chick out on a date.

With 200-300k you could get a very nice house in Erin Ridge or Oakmont. Those are the 2 nice new areas in St. Albert.

Hope this helped

PS- I have lived in Sherwood park for 12 years, westside of Edmonton for 2 and now St. Albert for 4 years now. STA FOR ME!!

yeah want a house in st.a one for sale right be side me in oak mount lol

I'm surprised I haven't really seen it asked yet (or I missed it) but what end of town are you going to be working in?

I can't see St. A being a nice drive.

We had two guys at work live there, and if they left 5 minutes later it'd take them an extra 15 minutes to get to work (Because of the train on 170th street).....

You also didn't mention whether you have a family or not? That plays a huge role in what development you're in.

As well, if you consider St. A., take a look at the taxes. I've heard grumblings around the office of them skyrocketing recently....

RacerGirl
My vote is for Sherwood Park. I live on the east side of it, and I can still make it downtown in 15-20 mins, depending on traffic. Most of the city is easily accessiable from Sh Pk as well, since you can go on yellowhead or whitemud easily.

Insomniac
I'd vote for St. Albert. It is a pretty place, well kept. French people are anoying, but you can find those anywhere. Oops, I meant french streets.

The park sucks... unless you like the sight of refineries and generally dumpy scenery.

Buddyworm
I vote St. Albert. Nice, clean little city. Not a whole lot to do around town besides drinking though. You wanna make a fortune in St. Albert, open a Liquor store, the people booting for underage kids will cover your initial investment in no time flat

B-Wurm :D

Orzel
Britnell just north of Miller on 153Ave.

I heard the photo radar is pretty crazy in St. Albert. There's only two places in the park where I've seen them so far.

I did mention that the taxes here are more than in the park, but you get what you pay for.

There are trains but either I have amazing luck or its just not as bad as you say because the last train I had to wait for was at 11:00pm on 167th ave and 142st and that was over a month ago. I am always in and out of St.Albert. 167ave, St. Albert Trail, 137ave, 156st, 170st, 184st and find the traffic alittle worse in the winter and rush hours but what else is new.

Ohhh, the good old refineries...yes. Yummy. Isn't Sherwood Park the worst place in Alberta to live if you have asthma...

YA right!! Sherwood Park is always the first place when it comes to new radar tech shit. They had the first red light cameras and arn't you getting those garbage can radar traps soon.

The St. Albert papers post where the vans will be and they only have so many places they can put the vans here. The reason why everyone talks about the photo vans, is because EVERYONE CAN SEE THEM!! Honestly, If you get a photo ticket in sta, you shouldnt be driving because you are blind!

PS- If it really is that hard to see the photo vehicles, Call me up and I'll show you where they all hide.

POX
I would say that you should just spend a day or 2 wandering each area just eating and doin some shopin and some visual inspection to get a fell for that part of the city.

Personaly i would avoid StA, i just dont like that place it gives me a bad vibe.

But hey if you like the fell of it go for it.

 Exactly. I know all the spots along my usual routes and then some. You get the cops with guns out on the streetcorners when school gets out sometimes though. Gee, I wonder why:rolleyes:
