| If we were pulled over, going speed limit, in a car with no liscenece plates, no insurance, and the car was bought 10 days ago, but the papers expired, what would the charges be?:drama: |

1) Driving without registration (I think it's around 75 to 300 depending on what the actual ticket is).
2) No insurance. I think it's 1800.
Plus they'll tow away your car.
OR, the cop might just tow you to your house and not ticket you. |

| i think your allowed X amount of days without reg if you just bought the car, but you need insurance. my guess is the cop would tow you to the impound and charge you by the day until you can prove its registered/insured. also you will probably be looking at a no insurance ticket. |

You're not allowed ANY days without registration or insurance.
If it's not registered/insured, you shouldn't be driving it.
Cops sometimes let no registration slide on newly bought cars, but, most will just tow your car. |

you are wrong your allowed 45 days without reg if you import it. But you should always have insurance. I have insurance on myfe but its not reg yet. I still have to get the federal inspection. |

Posession of stolen property - which is a criminal offence and you could potentially be taken to jail.

| We were driving around in a car, owned by the driver, he bought it. The plate was stolen and there was no insurance. The cops let him o home, but his car was impounded, and he has to go to court on a specific date. Does this mean just fines? He is under 18 if that is important. |

I can imagine fines, as well as if the plate is stolen I am sure there is a possible jail term for that as stealing things is definitly illegal.
I bet your lookin $2500+ Fines, no insurance, no registration, invalid license plate, stolen item(s).
Being under 18 they will probably be harder on him.

| Minumum no insurence fine for 18+ is $2875 and for under 18 I think its $500 not positive on the under 18 I know it was $300 some years ago but it has gone up for adults so I think it would have for youths aswell. |

This was before the fines went up, but I bought a new truck, well new to me, I used the plate off my old car(that I traded in for the truck) You have 2 weeks to transfer registration, but insurnace must be done before you drive off the lot, you don't neccisarily need the pink slip, but your insurance must know about it. In my case, the hours I was working i couldn't get into a registries office to change my registration. my insurance, i just called thm from work and the faxed over a copy of the temp til the could mail it to me.
I got pulled over on day 15, i got a no registration ticket, an unathorized plate(plate being registered to a diff vehicle) If you forget to re-new they tend to just give you the first one.
In this case, he'd prolly get the first 2, no insurance, possesion of stolen property, prolly a couple others to do with using the stolen plate.
Basically he might wanna start bending over now. Back in my stupid days I ran with buddies plate, well it was for the car though, no insurance just a pink card saying it was his car with his reg with his insurance, but it actually had no insurance. so for a checkstop I'd be fine, but being pulled over.. nope. Anyhow I had a close call with a cop following me I tried to ditch, he followed, I managed to lose him for a block, then I hid, after that.. well a week later the car was legal. |

Being as you are in Ontario (According to your location), and this is an Alberta based forum, you may wish to consult with someone more familar with Ontario law....
