| I got a seperate cell box 4 years ago from a single cab truck , it fits 2 10's box is about 8 inches deep at the base and tapers to 4 inches at the top and is 3 feet wide. Fits perfectly behind the seat. He had 2 pioneer IMPP 400 watt subs on a 2channel 500 watt amp and it pounded. The roof would breath in and out. He was using a sony deck. |

the coolest idea I have ever heard of for a single cab pickup is this.......
a large stealth box mounted under the front of the truck box, with ports into the cab.
This would be hard and expensive, but man that would be sweet!
If your budget is a little smaller than that, just make sure your subs don't slap the back of your seats, that sounds horrible. And use up all the useable air space possible. the more air space you have to reverberate within, the louder it's going to be, while using less power, and therefor being more efficient. If you don't store anything behind you seats, then make a box that takes up all the room back there. I would recomend a sealed box if you are after quality bass. But if you are after DB's then I would go with a ported box, not enough room back there for a band-pass.
Hope that helps! |

just remember that just because the sub has a larger power rating, doesn't mean that it is better. The more power the sub takes, the more power you will need to make the sub sound good.
a 1000Watt max sub should should get 1000RMS Watts of power, in a perfect setup. But in the real world you could get away with 1000watts peak power for that same sub. some people will use power, but it makes the system sound worse, and puts more strain on your charging system and amp and battery.
go with a lower power sub and it will be easier to make it sound good and loud, for less money. |

I have a box for a reg cab mini truck sitting around... heh damn, I'm kinda pissed the truck died before I got to use it. I put it in the truck afterwards.. heh WHOA heh loud.
What it is, holds 2 - 10" subs, and 2 - 6.5" speakers. Ported, but it has round ports with bench seats you can easily switch between the two with port plugs. It's a tall angle box, i dunno if that sorta idea works for you.
Hoping not to get in trouble, but if your interested, it is for sale.
With the above.. I have 2- 800Wmax sub, they RMS at 400W, so in the perfect world I'd wanna give them 500WRMS each from an amp.. Oh wait, I'm giving them 700-800WRMS each.
You actually want to match your RMS's cause if you give a 1000WMAX sub 1000WRMS one spike or a few small spikes and your subs are toast.
If your concerned about space I ran 2 sony 10" subs in .45 cubic foot boxes each, the pounded loud and tight, just well didn't hit all that low. Seemed more like 400W mids. |

that is only a concern if you are cranking the volume all the way up. most people that are only interested in some cool sound for there ride don't do anything that stupid. Only all out DB sound systems can handle being cranked repeatedly, or for long periods of time, and even then they often blow stuff up. If your amp puts out lots of power, but your sub only needs a little of it, then your sub will sound great and loud with the amp's gain turned way down, which, if you take care of them, will mean a long life for your amp, subs, and charging system.
I was giving 1000watts peak(600watts RMS) to a clarion pro audio 10" sub with a peak rating of 300watts. I turned the gain on the amp down to 25% and when cranked, my stock charging system wouldn't flicker the headlights at all, even with all electronics turned on. More power is better than less power.(If you take care of your system)
Also, with high power amps, powering low power subs, you will have less total harmonic distortion( THD ) which translates into higher quality sound, at any frequency. |

Ok, I agree with your last statement.. the first one made it sound like you where maxing everything out. I max my stuff out quite often and it's fine, but i run compettition stuff. Defiantly have more power on tap is better than struggling for enough as a lower wattage amp than needed will distort pushing it's max and that'll ruin both your subs and the amp. My amp is over kill for my subs, but i got it due to a free warranty upgrade, previously i was matched pretty perfectly 2-400Wrms subs and my amp put out 775WRMS at 2ohm. I hit my loudest with that setup, even with twice the power on tap I'm actually quietier by about 1.5-2db.
If you have no plans of upgrading your subs power matching you amp to your subs will suffice, cause over kill can cost quite a bit more(in my case if I had to pay the difference, twice as much) But over kill turned down as stated in Twinturbo's last post is fine, expecially if you plan on upgrading your subs later.
Generally if you stick to quality equipment and a class D mono block, adaptive if possible for your subs and power match you will be fine. |

I felt i should add, it also depends on what the goal is, if it's SQ or you want just a little extra bass you can get away will alot let power with a good box design.
So knowing the specific goals are really important, like my mini-truck box is duel function, I can seal it in about 30seconds for more SQ, or port it for about an extra 3-6db, if not more. |
