Well guys today I went and baught a ractive air filter for my car and installed it and it ran fine from about 4:00pm to 8:00pm, i heard my engine begin to shake anad rattle and pulled over to check it out everyting looked fine under the hood, I thne went to start it again and nothing, it wouldnt start. I call some help got the car started after a few more trys and then drove home but it still rattled and shook so I got home change it back to the stock air filter thinking it was letting too much air in over fuel then started car and ran fine but the engine check light was still on, socheck engine again and nothing just that my fan always was running so I reset the battery and still did the same thing, so took it for a spin around the block and when i got back the fan was runnign normal but my check light was still on, so now I come to you guys for help. I have no idea what is wrong with my car. I dont know if the air filter f-ed it up or wether its just my car, I hope you guys have some solutions for me.
Thanks Mike |

| also might want to add the temperature dropped a fair bit so maybe that caused something with the filter. Did any of you guys have this problem when u put a new performance air filter in? |

| is my air filter letting in to much air that I am getting more air then fuel. If so is there anyway I can fix this? |

does you ractive air filter have any vacuum line connectors built into it? Make sure all lines that hook to your original intake are also connected to your new one. Without being there to see it, your shaking problem could be related to air/fuel, but I doubt it is because of your air filter.
Unplug your battery, and leave it unplugged for 1 minute, then re-connect and see if you have a check engine light. Also, see when it comes on after starting, is it right away, after the car warms up, after you drive it awhile? If the check engine light comes on and all the lines are connected correctly, you might want to check the ECU's code. Meaning, take it to a shop that can scan your computer to see why the engine light is coming on.
That's all the advice I can give, maybe someone else can help you out........but I don't think your air filter alone would cause these problems. |

| sounds like an o2 sensor to much air like you said unplugging the battery should reset your computer and it should learn the air/fuel ratios again. Ideally if you could get a new ecu for your car that would be best. |

| The O2 sensor might not be put back properly check that out |

Whoa, isnt that a big step to already change out the ECU? |

he's saying new ecu so the engine can run without the sensor.
Alot of people that I know are having problems with their o2 sensors because of the retarded amount of snow in parking lots and on some streets that the city is damn lazy to clean.
Rubbing Ice chunks on the bottom of your car could very well damage your sensor, causing the check engine light to go on.
Now, when u put the new "intake" on your car did u go around driving the piss out of it? just because your car is louder now?
Its highly unlikely that your intake caused this problem.
Check to see that you put the intake sensor back in, if you jimmy rigged a intake tube. If you made your own, just drill a hole in the tube and stick that damn sensor back in.
But this definately sounds like an Air fuel problem. |

I have checked everything and everythiing is connected buyt my engine check light still come on when i start the car, it come on right away. I dont know what to do, I think i will bring it to a shop for them to scan the ECU code unless you guys have any other help. Did any of you guys have a problem with your air filter?
p.s. how much would the ECU code scan cost? |

| well i fixed it I think lol, I checked every thing and nothing was wrong with the car but the engine light still came on so I was like what the heck lets put the performence air filter back on and i put it back and it idled fine, I tooking ti for a spinn and poof the engine light turned off, I went drivng for about 2 nmore hours and it ran smooth as silk. I am going to take it out tonight at 8:00 to see if it works in the colder weather. |

| Your butterfly in the TB regulates the amount of air coming into your engine. Soe ven though you do have a performance filter, chnaces are it did nothing. |

| Its probably totally unrelated and ridiculous to tell you the truth. An air filter isn't going to change anything unless a sensor was damaged in the process. Just to give you an example, my check engine light came on one day at a meet. A plug wire was loose upon inspection so we believed that the wire just came loose and ruined the o2 sensor. So I changed a whole bunch of stuff, plugs, fuel filter, o2 sensor. Nothing was fixing the engine light. So I finally just said fuck it and got the code read. My stock strut bar was pressing on the MAP sensor causing it to set of the engine light and in turn enrich my fuel mixture. In your case, I don't think you will know unless you take it to a mechanic and get the code read. Don't do anything unless you know the exact reason, otherwise its a guessing game. |
