I read in the Edmonton Sun on Friday that Kentwood Ford on 97st was fined for bad practice, or something to that effect.
Example 1 was that a young lady came in to buy a 97' cavalier. With enough pressure from sales person who insisted she buy a 2001 cav, she begun to cry. The dad bought the 2001 car under the condition there was a 7 day return policy. The next day he decided they didn't want the car, came back to the dealership to get payment back. Dealership said there is a fee and a storage charge, and needed to deduct.
Example 2 was a young guy who came in to buy a used 97 explorer. he gave a visa deposit, and bought with the condition of getting financing. Financing was NOT approved. He said he was going to ask if his sister would co-sign the loan. Dealership took her name and got the financing approved without her knowledge. When she was told what the lending rate was going to be she said no way. They would not provide financing contract or purchase agreement to either party, and did not return the 500 deposit.
I have been trying to find a link online, but with no luck. This was not good press for that dealership! |

I think the sad thing is people who can ge bamboozled into buying a vehicle by "High Pressure" tactics. If you don't like the sales tactic, leave. Do not get me wrong; lying is one thing, but alot of the complaints at dealerships are from high pressure tactics, that I think would be OK if a business wants to partake in them, would I walk off the lot in 5 minutes or less? Sure.
A fool and his money are easily parted. |

Add Waterloo Ford to that list. Was helping a friend buy a mustang, and the deal was done and signed, then the sales manager insisted it was a mistake and needed to add $1000 to the price. And they advertise the lowest prices and customer service, what a joke. Anyone else had a bad car buying experience?

Had a bad experience at WestEnd Nissan.
I had already dealt with one salesman and after his pressure to buy I came back on a later date and found a different salesman.
This one was worse. When testdriving a Spec-V he told me if i bought this car he would teach me how to drive it !! He then trashtalked every other car on the market. Including mine.
Needless to say he lost a sale and I will
NEVER send anyone to WestEnd Nissan. |

We bought our '04 F-350 from Kentwood and the guy kept trying to get my dad to put a deposit down on his credit card to let them know he was serious. He basically had to tell them no about 4 times, that if he got a price he liked he would buy the truck for cash. After some bullshitting we got a great price on the truck and took it home that night.
The reason we were at Kentwood was because Healy Ford were a bunch of useless pricks. They wouldn't negotiate on the price of a truck we were looking at at all. If they had dropped even $500 off of it we would probably bought from them. Instead we went over to Kentwood and bought it there. The best was when I took the manual back for the truck I took on a 24-hour test drive at Healy (I had taken the manual inside to look through and forgot to throw it back in when we took the truck back). I drove up in our brand new '04, pointed out that we went to Kentwood right after we left there the night before and bought the truck. I'm guessing that they were kicking themselves for awhile over that one.
This wasn't intended to hijack the thread at all, just share my experiences with Kentwood (and Healy I suppose) from last year. Besides the credit card thing at Kentwood I would say that it went pretty well. They were quick with getting the truck out, threw in a spray-in box liner and remote starter/alarm unit, and we knocked $8k off of retail on the brand new truck.:D |

Actually I would say you're not hijacking the thread at all. This goes to show that if these "trained" salespeople sense vulernable customers they have no problem being savages. If you are able to step up you can easily walk away, or bargain with them until both parties are happy. |

Ohh, these guys will certainly chew you up and spit you out if you are not ready for them.
And my earlier post was not about these situations, a lie is a lie and not ok, but complaining because you got done up, and did not stick to your gunsd is another.
The biggest thing that pisses me off is after you decide on a price, you go to sign the bill of sale and there is the doc fee, rub your balls fee, the you wore red fee, etc... |

Londonderry chrysler has tried to pressure me a couple times... i bought 2 new cars there in 2001 and when I go backfor maintainance, well warranty work, as if it's not warranty i do it myself. I wander around the show room waiting and they try to get me to trade in the car I have on something new.. normally i play along, make them work at gettign a low monthly.. then i say, nope still too high and they kinda shrug their shoulders and try again next time.
I got them once... oo bad I wasn't actually in the market for a new car.. they had an Ad for an SX 2.0 for $14,xxx.. yet the pic was of an SRT4... and I scoured the ad.. not a signal disclaimer about "vehicles might not be exactly as illistrated" Coulda got an SRT4 for almost half price. |

 as if......
car sales is a wham bam thank you ma'am........
they dont care about re-peat business, or things would be done alot different. they just want the initial sale.
besides id say a majority of cars are "bought" on the internet, meaning there is really no need for a "salesman", most people are just concerned about price. besides what does a salesman really do anyway, the sales manager is the guy who actually trys to close the sale or "put the sell on", so the "salesman" is really a middle man.
Car "salesman" make all other sales people look bad.
When i bought my '05 WRX, I got a price at rally subaru, when i was there i asked questions that i already new the answers too, but just wanted to double check, neither the sales manager or the "salesman" could answer them, go figure..... |

In a contract sense:
A newspaper add is an invitation to treat, which means that they are welcoming you to come down and offer them that much for the product. They are not bound to sell you the product at that price. Though they may get introuble for some false advertising they are not required to sell you the car at that price.

Have you ever read the fair trade act? bait and switch is illegal and they can get anywhere upto $50,000 in fines. I read and studied the whole fair trade act a lil while ago when i was having issues with International stereo. It wasn't technically their issue... my camera spent a year straight in the shop due to JVC not sending parts to canada and when I'd get it back it still didn't work or was worse than when I brought it in.
mind you I've forgotten a bunch about it. but in this case if they don't put the disclaimer it's somewhat false advertising |

ROTFL. Not a chance, once the salesperson has your money, then it's an effort for them to even remember your name. Sad but true. :( |

i remember fighting with the salesperson at westend nissan just to get my money back. scumbag lied to me the whole month and finally i had enough and took my money back, it wasn't easy but the guy at another dealership helped me.
even today after buying my car 3 years ago, whenever i go to the dealership where i bought my car they still refer to me by my first name or mr.lastname. that's what i call service. |

When I went to got buy a new car last year I went to westside mitsubishi and was looking at an 02 eclipse and was talking to some salemen and went through the whole financing thing. they phoned me up and told me I had been aproved for 378 a month for like 5 years or something and I told them I couldn't afford it due to other bills draining into my monthly spending and told them that the best I could do was around 300 a month. the salesman phoned me after this to tell me I got financing. She phones me back half hour later to tell me she can get the car for me for 320 a month for 6 years. I told her the amount I said earlier was the Highest I could go a month. we finished our conversation and she called me back a half hour after that to tell me she could get me the car for 290 for 7 years. I said that I could do and we finished the conversation. I went to kentwood because I knew the finace manager at the time. I looked at my focus. The car is an 01 (a year older then the eclipse) had just under 30000k on it (the eclipse had 100000k) the window where tinted and it was an awsome color. the eclipse had a cracked window and I hadn't taken it for a test drive. They let me drive a differant eclipse, because they couldn't find the keys for the one I was looking at. Two days later(a monday) the lady fromwestside mitsubishi phones me to tell me to come and get my keys to my new car. I told her to hold on because I want to wait and see what my insurace would go up for having that car. not more then ten minutes later the saleman phones me and tell me I better come get the car because there was some one else interested in the car. I basicly told him to sell tha car then, I fsomeone else wanted it to get rid of it. I went to kentwood and got my car that day. I hate pushy sale people.

Wow the dealerships you guys deal with are so edmonton , the worste place to buy a car. I work with salesmen on a daily buisness , my dealership keeps the ones that are customer sensative and willing to do extra to keep them happy.
It is a fact that most customers entering a car lot think there gonna get ripped off when its really the customer that tries to rip off the dealership. "Lets see after we write up a deal if they will throw a bunch of free stuff on it!" or even "Jim Joe Bob Ford has the same truck for $2000 cheaper than the one your selling" <-- then they get informed that the truck at jim joe bob ford is a 2wd and the one here is a 4wd and cost 2k more. People will try anything to rip off the dealership just look at the nitpickers who buy 10 year old cars for $2000-$3000and demand a polish job full detail and tank of gas on a as is deal?
Like I said it all depends on where you shop , alot of dealerships are learning that everyone is different and everyone needs to be treated differently so they do and make great buisness.
Sorry for the rant. |

Well I guess it's up to the dealership to go with the cheaper of the two options.
Since I knew the dealership and the finance guy was a great guy and some how pulled financing for me outta his ass I let him know about the ad. and later that had correction notices up in the show room.
as far as the sales person thing goes... I start by saying, just looking, if they push i play, then walk away.
The sales person on my wife's car left the dealership mid-sale. I go in "I's chris here" "Sorry not today" ok deal with the sales manager.. next time same thing.. then same thing...then they finally told me "he's no longer with us" So I delt with another guy... he was good.. just kept pushing me to go to Autotoys and soup the car up.... |

now that is funny. Almost as funny as the guy from crappy tire that it was good that a kid with a pos car spends all this money on wings, body kits, crappy tire decal kits and rims for a car that they could spent that money geting oh I don't know big ass dent in the door of the cancer spots on the back 1/4 removed. He told me at least there trying to keep up in the market. I left before I smacked him. I wanted to tell him if they save the money they used for the crappy tire sup ups they could get a nice car, one worth fixing up. the kid was a tool plus to top it off he was the guy who deals stricley with there "sup up parts". The only kewl thing they have of late is the elusion lighting kits, and a couple shift knobs. |

Bah, poor dealerships not making enough money!!!
They are ONLY in business to make money off of people, er profit. Dealerships deserved the shit and abuse they get from people.
What every dealership needs is for people to get a quote from 10 dealerships in Alberta each and every single time, and only go with the cheapest place.
Then it would turn from sales person vs. consumer to dealership vs dealership. |

This works for new cars where you can go to ten dealerships to get the same viechle but not for used cars since what are the chances for ten dealership in edmonton all having the same year car with the same opions so you can compare prices. Other wise it's like going to the used dodge dealership and saying well you know i really want this srt4 but you know the toyota dealership has a srt4 there for $10000 can you match the price. But in reality it is a neon that some idiot doesn't know the differance athe car is the base model, or some stupid S#$t like that. |

Do you work for free? I don't think so, you work to earn money, same difference. Every body who works is out to make money of off people, so does that mean everybody who is the "seller" in a situation deserves the "shit" I don't think so.
What is needed is people to have a backbone, so if they experiance a sales tactic or an insane price is to get up, express that "I don't like your tactics" and leave. |
