| Anyway i was wondering why the 1G-GTEU (Engine located in the TT supras as far as i know of in japan in the 91-92's) is rated at 210hp and its a Twin Turbo. this seems quite low doesnt anyone think? Is it Sequential twin turbo like the Newer models? Is this car faster then the DSM market Single turbos rated at 234 hp? For some reason this seems quite low to me bacuase its a twin turbo fo crise sakes! Any 1/4 mile times? Any feedback on em? I know the other supras cause i drove a Turbo 87 one for about a year before my dad sold it. My friends 5.0l mustang will be hitting 300 hp by the end of summer and i want to hold my own on the track. Dont even try on the road coarse, everyone knows that mustangs handle like ass . Thx for any info regarding my worries. I just want to know why is it so low. |

| Arent they 1G-GTZE TT and 300HP? as far as i knew, they were. And i doubt supras handling capabilities, they are pigs, aka highway racers(at 3000+lbs).. |

Twin turbo means absolutley nothing if they are tiny turbo's.
Hint: 1 larger turbo will always be more efficient than 2 smaller turbo's.
Case in point: FAST Supra's more often than not toss the factory twin turbo setup in favor of a LARGE single turbo. |

The engine you are looking at is a 2.0L inline 6 in the MKIII Supras, not the 2JZ from the MKIV Supras.
It has some potential, but you're better off going for an MKIII powered by the 7M-GTE or the 1JZ, 3.0L and 2.5L respectively. The 1JZ is the little brother of the 2JZ in the MKIV supras, but is still capable of making over 500hp without building the bottom end. |

they had 1GGTE in MK3s from teh start as far as i know, it's the 1JZ that came in 91-92 Supras. And yeah, its only a 2 liter engine, not big enough to pull the Supra around =P

uh...... I think you mean the 7MGTE and The 7MGE Both of which are a 3.0 Litre. In Japan they have the 1JZ (MKIII) and 2JZ(MKIV). I believe the 1JZ motor was made in a 2.8L and 3.0L Turbo and NA.
From 1986.5 to 1992 in Canada and the USA the MKIII were running the 7MGE. I believe in 1987 or 1988 they introduced the 7MGTE. I also believe in 1990 or 1991 the HP output was raised to 232 HP.
For further reference you can visit the SOGI (Supra Owners Group International) website at
http://www.supras.com/04/main/index.php.
Hope this helps.

| The 1G-GTE was in the MKIII Supras in Japan. I've ridden in a Soarer with the same engine, and although it drives ok, it's certainly not a powerhouse. |

Hi Andriy,
Thanks for the info on the 1G-GTE and the Japanese markets. I have done some research and it seems that this motor was put into a few other vehicles from Toyota asides from the Supra.
I do stand corrected on my error with the 1G-GTE motor. I am well versed on the 7MGTE and 7MGE but not so much the Japanese ones. As for the 2.8L that was a typo by me. It shouldf have been the 2.5 L :) I did not read the begining of the thread. My bad!
I would think that if you are willing to spend the money, you can crank some impressive numbers out of the 1G-GTE motor. I do not know for sure.
I am curious to find out more info about that motor.
Thanks,
Mike Nikolai |

1GGTE can prbly be made to make some hp but the lack of displacement will always catch up to it, so as far as i could find it's usually swapped for the 1JZ in japan if someone wants to make serious power.
BTW do u have any pics of ur car? what do u have done?

Hi Andriy
Copy and paste the link in my Signature. That will show you 2 pics of my car. You can go to www.suprasport.com and under the forum section, search under the section of "Post your Ride or Cool Pics" I have more links there. You may have seen my car blasting around town. :)
I have WAY to many things done to my car to mention on here. LOL.
Here is a link to what I have done on the SOGI website.

Thank you!
I have a few parts kicking around.
I have factory turn signal lenses, Factory Airbox, Fan shroud off of a 1988 Non Turbo, Power Antena motor for a 1991 Celica. Motor works great, all someone needs is a cord for it. I also have a mast for the supra motor as well. That is all the parts I have for a supra. There used to be one at KarBashers a few months back. It was a 1988 Non Turbo Automatic. Body was pretty rusted, but it had a Tan interior. The interior was not to bad. Check out www.car-part.com they are a great source for parts. Same with www.taprecycling.com. Honda Toy has something every now and then. I noticed that Black Gold just took in a 1988 Supra Turbo (White) They may have some parts. Hope this helps

wreckers are too expensive....black gold wanted $500 for a stock DP
but yeah, i just needed stuff like engine undercover, and white body parts, like bumper and stuff, i think buying from other ppl would be cheaper, at least hopefully lol
Hope the snow melts quick so i can take my car out finally:blue: lol

That is true! Depending on who you go to! The self serve ones can be pretty cheap. I bought a white side moulding from Honda Toy a few months back for a project I am working on for the MKIII's. I think they have one in the yard still. I will keep my eyes peeled for you.
I hear you on the snow! I want to take mine off the axle stands and bring it out to play for the summer. I was going to bring it out last week, but the snow changed my mind!
Hopefully soon.
What motor are you putting in? Same one, or a different beast?

Well i'm looking for a 5 spd to go on the new engine.
And its still 7M, but rebuilt head, HKS MHG, ARP, ROSS pistons, Clevite and even all new Toyota gaskets :p
So as soon as i find a 5 spd swap, i can start pulling the old one....

Nice choice for the rebuild. I did not do the pistons this time. I anticipate that going into the future I will tear it down and make the bottom end stronger to handle more boost!
The 5 speed swap will be an intresting project. You will need to change alot of stuff for it. Most important is the ECU.

hey, if you could, please let me know if you see any mk3's at any of the local auto wreckers, cause there are a lot of parts I could use if I can find them for a good price..
(oh and Trowa, I'll talk to you on msn sometime soon, I am still interested in that w58 transmission if you still have it..) |

Hi Canuck Dave,
What parts are you looking for? You can send me a list with color preferance and I will keep my eyes peeled. Sometimes I come accross some pretty good deals.

As far as i know u don't NEED to change teh ECU, shorting a few connections will do the trick, but yeah, still need a lot of stuff.

Yeah, just let me know, it's getting warmer now so it'll be a good time to take parts of the car :) And if u need anything else mechanical i prbly have it:D

Hi Andriy,
I thought the ECU's were specific to NA, Turbo, 5 Speeds, and Automatics due to the different requirements and specifics of the engine and transmission needs. Ie) pre programed shift patterns for the auto, may not work well with a 5 speed conversion.
Canuck Dave,
I got the PM. I will send you one back shortly. The parts will be pretty easy to find for the most part.

The ECUs are different for NA and Turbo, but not for the Auto and 5spd, cause our ECU does not control the tranny, we have a seperate trannyECU for that, so all u have to do it just full the ECU that the car is in park or neutral to start the car, other then that it's exactly the same.

Hi Andriy,
I learn something new every day. That is an interesting find. I would have thought the ECU also controlled the shift paterns for the automatic. Interesting...........
