You put a $50,000 paint job on an AE86? Is the paint flecked with diamonds or what?

My car is out all year round till i get the paint job done then its time to buy a clunker thinking of a van Ford Aerostar 5 speed :D my parents own one i drove it few times to Stage 13 and jasper and such awesome camping and beat around van

Insomniac
You guys are a bunch of pussies. Get your cars out. If it snows, park it for a couple days. Their car's, not irreplacable family heirlooms....

n0c7
I refiberglassed, reprepped and repainted the insides of my sideskirts over the winter. I had my ride out for the long weekend and I need to redo them again now, from less than 2 hours of road time. I'm gonna wait a bit longer until some of the gravel is cleaned up.

SilverZ24
I keep full insurance on my car all winter so I can take it out every now and again when the roads aren't too bad. Although it does stay parked for most of the winter. But Saturday I plan on putting my 18's back on for the summer. If it snows again I can do without it for a few days.

And some of you guys do know that there are lots of people in the city that drive 100 grand plus cars all winter long? Most of the cars here can handle a few rocks and a bit of snow. :p

TurboMR2
April 15th is the big day for me.. :)
the countdown begins...

Shit stay out of the gravel. I drive my STI in the winter and it don't get chipped up as bad as everyone thinks. Just stay back a bit from the car/truck infront of you and you will be okay. I personally will be pulling my fd out of hibernation on Friday and will most likely be out at UC for 9pm.

Insomniac
if your paint gets that wrecked after two hours of driving, get better paint...

imagine if new cars got chipped up that easily. cars that were out all winter would be completely f*cked

1985mazdarx7
My RX-7 is coming home this Saturday (April 2), but will probably not be driven on a regular basis until our city fixes all the pot holes - just wanna get it home from the farm.

So I still haven't got my question answered:

who is going up to the barn to pick up their cars?

It's not the paint that is the weakness, its the design of the skirt. When the wheel throws up a rock into the wheel well it doesnt hit a plastic mud flap or the wheel well liner, it hits the chunk of the sideskirt that mounts at the bottom of the fender. It's kind of hard to explain without seeing, but like most bodykits they just look good and arent at all practical :) The rock chips dont bother me that much on the inside, its just when I curb any of the kit pulling in and out of parking lots and tear it half off that drives me nuts.

Kind of hard to avoid at the moment :p The gravel getting thrown at me from the vehicle in front of me doesnt really chip or damage anything, its just the gravel on the streets getting sucked up into the wheel well area thats banging the bottom of my skirt mounted at the bottom of the fender. Hard to explain, when I see you at one of the meets coming up i'll show ya.

True enough, but if my eclipse was originally from Canada and had been driven all year around, now, 10 years later it would be beginning to rust out, have tonnes of scratches on the glass, and all the other good stuff that goes along with winter and general daily driving. My ride has been fully restored on the outside so the way I did it was buy a $4000 half decent beater(a 93 explorer) to get me through the winter instead of putting all that wear and tear on the car. Also, having a dropped ride with a complete kit that sits not even an 1.5 inchs off the ground in its lowest spots does not make a very practical winter ride. Expensive 18's on overpriced 225/40's don't like snow drifting into curbs too much either. However, if I had a bone stock car, like a brand new 350Z for example, I would definitely drive my car year around. I've spent too much on this car already(and I'm the second owner of this project) unfortunately I hate not being able to drive my pride and joy for half of the year. :dunno: Always some dilemma.

no no matt i got a 20 dollar paint job on my car....haha im not scared of alittle rocks and such....

and there are NSX's and BMW's worth more than ur cars driven around even in the winter so its not a problem driven ur cars around at this time...just try to avoid all the pot holes and gravel...i do that even with my car

redbaron303
My dad's friend drives his NSX during the winter... but he also owns something like 8 or 9 "exotic" sports cars from Japan, the USA, and Germany. I remember a couple years ago when we went skiing at Lake Louise and he met us there.... in his NSX, it was like that Lotus Esprit from "for your eyes only" (is that the right one??) James Bond movie w/ ski's on the roof! hahahaha

Point is that like SilverZ24 said, there are plenty of guys who drive their high priced cars all year around and it doesn't cause them much problems. I think for most of us though, we aren't all super blinging like these other guys rippin around in their Porsches and NSX's in the snow so we try to preserve our rides to avoid having to do ANYTHING out of the necessary to it.

Personally for me, my RX7 isn't a 100 000$ car but it's my pride and joy and I am NOT the single greatest winter driver out there.... just too much power and not enough "mad skillz" for bad roads, so I don't see a point in risking everything I've put into that car to drive it all year. Although, I see no problems in bringing it out now --- I'll drive it conservatively for the next lil while till the roads are more cleared up.

I'll probably reinstate my insurance for the end of april, whether I take the car out at that time or not.

If the weather has improved and the roads have been cleaned, then I'll bring it out by the end of april or early may. Need tp get alot of stuff done before the end of may...

snugs
My car never went away, but I'm not putting the summer tires on until near the end of april.

RSN CRX
Mine has been out all winter but today I put my rims on and cleaned it inside and out.

Insomniac
I just took my car out for a little rip. You guys are missing out :p
