What to do in Jasper? - Click HERE for Original Thread

TrevorK
Alright guys, I've never been to Jasper but the girlfriend's been bugging me to take her in the early summer, so I figured I'd start planning now.

Of course, being a girl, she's decided that I, never having been to Jasper, will be in charge of deciding what we do.

So what exactly is there to do in Jasper?

wander around and look at the mountains, be amazed at the overpriced crap that they try to sell to tourists, then wander around some more and look at the mountains.

You can ride the gondola

Located ten minutes from the town of Jasper, the Tramway is Canada's longest aerial tram tour operation. The upper terminal at 2,500 metres (8,200 ft) offers spectacular view of the surrounding area. A one-way trip in the 30 passenger cabin takes seven minutes. The Treeline Restaurant and gift shops are offered

Get some sweet ass candied apples from the Chocolate Factory on the strip.

Theres shopping.

And ofcourse, the best thing you can do is hike around and snap some pictures, lots of observation decks, and the trails are awesome.

The Columbia Icefields are fun if you have never been. And if it is warm enough when you go, just outside of Jasper on the way to the icefields stop at horse shoe lake. You can climb up the cliffs and jump 20-60 feet into the clear water below (depending on how brave you are).

And although I can't remember any names, I have always found lots of excellent restaurants in town.

And my wife and I always stay in a Cabin at Bear Hill Lodge and it is really nice there. Price is around $150 to $200 (depending on the time of year) and they are all heated by a gas fireplace. Your girlfriend will definitely like it. And they are only about a 10 minute walk to the main strip.

The water there is cold as fu*k. We did that in august a year or two ago and it took a couple of hours laying out in the sun before my boys dropped back down out of my abdomen.

....there's whitewater rafting too.... that's fun.

Yeah, that is why I said when it is warm enough. ;) lol

And yeah, I forgot about whitewater rafting. Damn cold again, but I had lots of fun doing that last summer there.

Miette hotsprings. Nice narrow paved rally style road on the way up too. Too bad there's lots of traffic in the summer. I like Miette WAY better than Banff hotsprings.

Take a drive up to Marmot Basin. Last couple times I went in the summer the gates were open and it's a fun drive up. Long straights with 2nd gear switchbacks. Nice view up there too.

You can also take the gondola up the mountain (don't remember the name) and have lunch in the restaurant up there. Hike around the trails up there and get a birds eye view of Jasper.

Shoot, we did it when it was hot enough to fry an egg on the rocks and the water was still freezing. I would definitely not advise anybody to go cliff jumping there if they plan on having "relations" later that day and do not have access to a hot tub. :D

I think it was either Jasper or Banff that was rated AIDS capital of Western Canada. Either way Trevor, open all doors with a towel or something

It's cheaper to stay at Hinton, about 30mins from Jasper if your looking to save a few bucks.

Theres a place called to Overlander Lodge just outside the park gates. Very pricey to but they have a awsome 4 star resturant in there.

And there is always Maligen Lake. It's a nice mountain lake with fish and bout tours but the highlight is a Canyon walk. Its about 3km walk where you cross 7 bridges and get to see some pretty cool wirlpools and falls. Bring a lunch.
