Mid-bass drivers = decent subwoofer replacements? - Click HERE for Original Thread

REFLUX
Dilemna:
The speakers in my car produce NO bass.
I have room to mount 6 speakers:
-1 speaker in each door (2 doors), currently have 2 components
-2 tweeters in total on the underside of the dash (points at your knees)
-2 speakers in rear strut towers in the hatch area (facing up)

Question:
Will mid-bass drivers provide a decent amount of bass so that music has a fuller sound?
I don't want to shake the car, just something to listen to every now & then, very basic music needs.

Any other recommendations on getting more bass without getting a subwoofer.

Primarily rap & rock is played.

Well are you running an amp? What kind of speakers and deck do you have?

SilverNeonRacer
6×9s tend to give good bass, The Neon has pretty good bass for a stock system. it has 2.5" tweets inthe dash, either 5.25 or 6.5" mids in the door and 6×9s on the rear dash.

You could change your staging and have font staging and replace your rears with lower power 8" subs

scooby_dooby
yup, if you want some decent bass without subs you have to get 6x9's, the 6.25 or smaller don't cut it at all.

I bought some cheapy kenwood 6x9's, $110, I've had people call bullshit when I tell them there's no sub in the back.

REFLUX
k well the rear towers are circular, not sure if I could mount an oval speaker in there.

Possibly in the doors but the mesh opening is quite small.

I have 6.25 components in the front, prbly why I don't have any bass

RSN CRX:
Sony deck, I've forgotten the model # but it's an all black exterior face, folds out mechanically and the inside face is silver with blue screen.
I'm running 2 amps, 1 for speakers & 1 originally for a sub.
Right now 1 amp runs to front speakers, other runs 2 rear (but I have no rear speakers ATM)

Looks like 6x9s are my solution, I'll have to see if there is any way to have them installed in stock locations.

SilverNeonRacer
I think you can get 6" subs... if you have round holes or an 8" and use your rear amp. But you would get no treble like with say a 2 or 3 way 6×9.

RSN CRX
Ya I guess the best way for to go is get some good 6x9 and a good amp to power them. dont try running them through the deck amp you will just ruin the speakers.

SilverNeonRacer:
Yeah ppl have fit 8" subs in the towers before but I don't have any need for huge amounts of bass
just something that sounds decent for those lazy driving days :)

RSN CRX:
Yup I got 2 amps already

Just got to figure out how to mount 6x9s....

SilverNeonRacer
8" won't give you crazy bass, just good mid and bottom end fill. All depends on where ya set the gain.

Gain?
Like the detergent? :dunno: [/audio n00b]

SilverNeonRacer
lol.. ummm I'll prolly get yelled at for this by other car audio ppl, but amps have an adjustment called gain... Best analogy I can think of it's like a volume knob on your amp.

im selling a set of 6x9 kenwoods, almost new :)
haha

Ok the best way to do this is replace all your stock speakers if you have done that already then good find out how much watts/rms each speaker can handle. Then go pick up a 4 channel amp prefferably 500 watts at 4 ohms you will get 75 watts per channel and thats plenty enough to give you some nice sound a good amp for this will be a rockfordfosgate (Type RF X4.C) i prefer rockford if you want to get something else il leave that up too you.
Or if you want a little more thump then i suggest the (MRV-F545) made by alpine 100W per channel rms more pricey tho happy modding

Altezza
Oh and if you need help setting this all up just pm me il give you a hand :)

Haha thanks I saw your post but I have to figure out how to mount 6x9s first before I go buying things :)

Altezza:
thanks for the info, I have 2 RF amps already, each are 4 channel and I believe 1 is 500w and another 400 or around there.
It's been so long since I looked at audio.

Right on the all that has to be done it wires to be run and hooked up and make every think look purdy

2ndgenlude
you would probably have to cut them out, i have a template the speakers came with if your interested, thats if i can find it

REFLUX
Altezza:
Yupyup!

2ndgenlude:
Sorry man I dont' want to be cutting into any of my interior, at most it'll be 6x9 boxes mounted somewhere.

Altezza
This is where fiberglassing comes in handy :D make some pimp 6x9 enclosures
