| I read in the paper this morning that they are thinking of putting photo radar along highway 2, to try and slow down the traffic along that highway. I am guessing there would be a lot of problems getting it to actually slow the traffic down, instead of just being another money collector. |

Money collector inDEED.
But if they set the limit higher...say 130-140km/h I think that'd be reasonable.
People doing 170km/h deserve a ticket |

| hiway2 should be widened |

| 140 KPH on any highway and I am happy...and its perfectly safe in a well maintained vehicle. |

Any decent radar detector will pick up photoradar on highway 2 miles away. As long as people in the other preserve the headlight "flash" it shouldn't cause too much of a problem.

what if I am driving down the highway at say, 2am, and the flash causes me to go temporarily blind and I crash into the ditch...
Can somebody say Lawsuit? |

| My issue with that is... employing that in the city has not made our streets safer yet they refuse to abort it and it simply has to do with money. So its ineffective in the city so they try it on the highway? Talk about a mad dash in the dark. |

I remember seeing a story on that a while ago when they where considering it, as well as trying to get eh red light cameras to be photo radar as well.
One persons comment was "it's on a highway..... not like there's really anywhere to hide a tinted van" highwy 2 north there's a couple spots, and I suppose near an over pass there's spots.
Kinda pisses me off, it better be the RCMP running it not Edmonton police.. cause if it's edmonton. ya cash cow yet again.. |

| edmonton police can only do photo radar within city limits. |

I thought they were not allowed to employ Photo Radar outside of city limits????
Was there a law ammended recently on this subject? |

| The traffic comming the opposite way would get blinded from the flash. The median is too open to distort that flash from oncomming drivers eyes |

They are discussing whether to amend the act so that they can use Photo Radar on Highway 2 - it hasn't been decided yet, as far as I could see... |

I think photo radar on the highway is BS! |

i think photo rdar all together is BS, half the time the van's are parked illegally to begin with.. they broke the law before I did thus the ticket should be null and void, as Cops can only break certian traffic laws of responding to an emercany.. how come photo radar gets to break laws. I'm pretty sure if i park the way they do, I'd either get a ticket or towed.
Personally Radar/laser, especially roaming radar... you get me it's fair and square. |

ahh crap.. i sure hope not.. let us know if you get a ticket here in a couple more weeks. i heard there was still a legislation that all radar must be manned. I haven't heard otherwise, but I do live in boonieville.
I they might be radaring and taking pics, but i don't think they can issue a ticket based off of an unmanned radar. it could be research of sorts, figureing out if the need radar there. I remember there being a story about the city cops cracking down on the "worst drivers in edmonon" and they could be using that as info for that cause if you routinly blow through lights(green) at a higher rate of speed than posted you might find a cop on your butt waiting for you too mess up, or you may recieve a phone call about your driving, but I don't think/really hope they can't ticket for that yet. |

| The red light camera in Sherwood park on Wye road heading west into the city is a speed radar as well. If you are doing more than 10 KpH over the speed limit it will tell you you are going too fast (sign facing your direction). If you don't see it it'll take a pretty picture of your liscense plate and they'll send it to you in the mail. It has been like that for at least three years, maybe longer. But to my knowledge they haven't employed this in Edmonton yet. |
