my car is there now...apparently those guys specialize in ae86s, so i took my car there. the mechanic, raymond, was nice, but was too eager to brag about how much he knew about ae86s...
there were tons of nice cars in the garage...and one full out insane ae86 too..
has any1 had any experience with this shop? |

| Raymond cool...just agree with everything he says....just tell him that toyotas are great and everything else is garbage...i doubt that he'll give you a discount but at least you'll keep him smiling....btw how big are those turtles now.....? |

| I wouldn't trust him with anything but a Toyota, especially a Honda. I heard he's fukt up a few. |

The world according to Raymond:
Toyota's are cool
Nothing else in the world matters but Toyota
You're car is garbage if it isn't a Toyota.
These were actual quotes he told me when I went to him looking to do a turbo kit.
So I suppose if I had a Supra, I'd goto him... |

Really?
His shop is packed with Nissan Skylines.
I have a 01 NSX, 04 Sti and 98 Supercharged prelude.
He has done work on all of them (H22 rebuild and complete engine pull on the NSX with clutch, waterpump and timing belt). He is more meticulous than any tech I have met! He likes lots of cars maybe he didn't like you!?! |

I cannot speak nothing but good things about Ray
His AE86 is a sweet car
He's always been good to me & my friends as we have been going to him for a long time. He specializes (prefers...) Nissans & Toyotas but has worked on lots of Hondas. I'm sure he could build a Supra motor with his eyes closed by now.
He tuned the Webers on my Lude and rejetted everything...took it for a few tears around the block during the tuning and it was running 100X better than ever before but he figured i had a blown #2 cylinder. |

I just couldnt stand to see his reputation smeared for four years in cyber space!! I just have so much respect for the work he does and the time he takes with me. He'll actually spend s10-15 minutes explaining how a problem occured. But I do admit he may occaisionaly come off as blunt or tangential, but if you give him respect he will treat you like FAMILY. Has your mechanic ever given you a hug? Ok it was one of those 'half hugs', but really we had a 'moment'.
He loves to repair rather than replace. The sign of an excellent mechanic (IMO). Even if it takes longer he seems to get true satisfaction out of understanding why it broke in the first place. He then passes the subsequent savings back to me (by not having to purchase a new OEM).
Also, on several occaisions he has repaired things (like my headlight wiring, trimming my floor mats etc) and he wont even remember to mention it. I only figure it out in later when I notice when the problem 'disappeared' and I looked under the hood.
When he pulled my NSX engine he asked for all the parts weeks in advance to make sure I had everything before starting. When he was done he called the dealership to confirm that he was not overcharging me for the job. He has never pulled the NSX engine prior but he is so damn metiulous/obsessive that it really didnt factor into the decision.
I trust him with my car/life and he is definitely on my Xmas card mailing list!!!!!!
Kudos to Raymond and Silverstone. |

| I remember before R32 GT-R's were first legal, he apparently had an illegal one he was selling for $30,000 or something like that...just from what I remember. |

too bad he isn't like that with everyones cars. I've known far too many people coming out of there with problems just as bad or worse than the ones they went in with. Or spent a shit load of money on something that was poorly done and only lasted only a couple months before blowing up.
After seeing some work that came from there, and hearing some of the rediculous price quotes and things hes told people, i won't send anyone there. |

The only you can really be happy with work done on your car.. is to do it yourself.. i mean really.. every place gets negative/positive feedback. For the most part.. there is alot you can get done with just a couple of good friends... tuning/machining is really only what you need to pay for. |

I remember this thread.
After everything was done with Raymond, I decided the guy was a total jerk and I'd never see Silverstone again. Shame, since I owned my AE86 for 5 more years and did a ton of work to it.
First off, he's totally arrogant and cocky about how great he is with Toyotas, like he demands to be treated like some sort of god...fuck that. Next he kept telling me I didn't have it in me to take care of my car properly. When my original engine blew, I asked if he would do a swap for me, and he told me, "only if I can fully rebuild as well." Then the worst thing is that the when I went in to get a headgasket fixed, he somehow ended up fixing a ton of other shit I never agreed to, making the bill double what it should have been. I was a lot younger then and very new owning a car, so I got totally suckered into paying more than I should have...fuck that. |
