Hey i have a 95 Talon esi. I want to no whats the best things to do. i want to put a motor swap. but dont no the best motor?(JDM?)
I want to put eclipse tail lights on it and i want to no what all that needs to be done? i have to get a eclipse bumper or body kit. but does the taillights and bumper bult right on the same as the stock talon ones? and if you have any other ideas plls help

Best thing to do, depends on what your goals are, if u are thinking speed, id get a turbo kit for it.. best money / speed ratio :P haha U cant really swap to a 4g63 (turbo modles) because u would need customer motor mounts etc etc.. big gong show... so.. dont even think about it haha.. turbo it, if u are planning on running high boost, u will have to do internals.. If dont wanna spend that kind of money, and arnt looking for crazy hp.. then maybe start with the basics, Cold air, Open the Airway, 2.5 Inch Piping Cat back, Pullies Etc..
If u are going for looks (tail lights like u were talking about - u will have to get a eclipe bumper, u would have to do the conversion kit in order to get eclip tail lights.. Most clear lights are for eclipe not talons.. so yea.. conversion kit ... hope i helped.. u got meh on your msn.. if u have questions lemme know.. sign up for thoes sites.. take a peek around

PS- my motor is starting to burn a bit of oil.. prob pisten rings or somin.. thats why i want a swap... but yea.. maybe a rebuild? |

if you would be doing the motor swap...the best engine would be the 6 bolt 90-93? dsm 4g63 engine. (of course turbo) 7-bolt (93-99) 4g63 engine is notorious for crankwalking. STAY AWAY :D
you have the 420A engine, and from what i've seen on the dsmtuners forums it looks as though its fairly easy to turbo itself if thats the route you'd like to take.
check out dsmtuners.com and read some articles on the forums. theres is countless threads on making a talon into an eclipse. also check out the tech guide there. it'll show you exactly what to do to your engine and suspension and crap

It's uneducated people like you that have made the 7bolt "notorious". Crankwalk is overrated. If you want a reliable street car with a little pep make a turbo kit and keep the boost low. If you want a fast car you chose the wrong vehicle to do it. |

| There is no engine that you can really swap in. If you want turbo you can rebuild your engine with better internals to handle the boost or just run low boost on the stock engine. To put on the eclipse rear bumer you need the rear bumper, tail lights and reverse lights. You will also have to move a mounting bracket but everything else mounts up to the same location. |

yea ... good for the taillights.... easy to do... and dont need to buy any thing other then bumper and lights...
but .. i dont really no for the motor...
Should i get the swap or no... if so whats the best for speed
but not too much...
OR do a rebuild ... top to bottom... with turbo? |

| Don't do the taillight conversion. Keep a Talon a Talon and an Eclipse an Eclipse. There are very very few rear kits for the Talon, so take an Eclipse kit and fab it and you'll be even more unique, tint all the lights candy red, I think that would be cool. And if you choose to do it anyway(ugh dont) you'll need a new set of taillights and complete rear bumper with backup lights and license plate light. |

Swaping the 4G63 isn't easy, lots of custom work and money involved. You can't just take your engine out and bolt in the 4G63. If that is what you want you would be better off to sell you car and start with a turbo model. |

And what will happen if you go read over at DSMtuners? You will see that crankwalk is over rated and is just a big hype. Yes it can happen but to a small amount of 2G's and a way smaller amount of 1G's. It's people like you who miss inform uneducated people then they go around spreading the bull shit. well when i browsed the dsmtuners a bit ago...i don't anymore..numerous people on the forums had experienced crankwalk....and many of them have even swapped to the 6 bolt engine in their 2gs.
and yes fine i'll stop posting my "useless posts" cause this thread will obviously just turn into the dsm boys "ganging" up on the honda boy. |

Well thanks for all the help guys but i made some Decisions.
I will be putting a eclipse light and bumper on
and i will just do a motor rebuild with a turbo set up.
Im not looking for crazy speed.. im just looking for a little more ThumP.
with the rebuild.... whats some of the main things i should do inside... like camshaft and what not

well id go with lower compression pistons, some upgraded rods to go with that and maybe a few other internals, if ur not looking at to much power just go with a stock 14b or t-25 turbo take the injectors and fuel pump from a 1st gen... not sure if they will fit tho. and a few other customs parts and ur there |

Maybe I'm just biased because I went the extra mile to get an Eclipse, but I really don't like the mixing of parts like that. For all of those who will argue that they are the same car because they are part of the DSM family, carry the same bodyline, engine, 95% of identical parts, etc: if they were the same car there wouldnt be two different names. You should be proud of what you own and not try to make it something that it isnt. |

if i think its better then why not.. maybe some ppl cant go out and by the eclipse cause their only 17 :p .... i have seen lots of ppl with the light swap. their soo much the same that you dont even have to mold or cut. just because one says eclipse and one says talon that they can interchange parts? |

Converting a Talon to look like an Eclipse is the same as putting 'Type R' stickers on your Nissan.
What's the point? If you wanted an Eclipse, why didn't you just buy one?
I've seen 2 Talons so far that say 'Eclipse' on the back taillights, really makes the owner look like an idiot. (Why stop there? Why not put Skyline taillights, supra headlights, XR4TI half wing and then it'll be pimp!)

Almost as cool as buying a 3G elcipse and actually thinking you own a car apart of the eclipse family. If they want to do the swap what ever, I personally think the eclipse body is nicer. Maybe they couldn't find an eclipse or maybe they could but it was $5000 more expensive then the same thing in a talon. This is pretty much the same thing as putting a body kit on a car. |
