| Paying 181% Levy on Blank CD's - Click HERE for Original Thread |
| Bimmer |
As many of you already know, we are already paying a tax on every blank cassette, CD and mini disk that we purchase. This money goes directly to the Recording Industry to reimburse artists for any copyright infringement. Only problem is that NONE of it has EVER been paid out to date. If you think about how much money this adds up to be (Well in the Billions by now) It's rediculous how much we are being scammed. Especially since a lot of people use blank CD's for storing data and not music at all.
So here's your chance to do something about it, please read this blurb on it from London Drugs, and PLEASE email our government asking them to remove this rediculous copyright law.
I'm amazed at how money can force government to pass judgement on laws that they really don't know anything about. Just sad.
London Drugs Comment on this and Email for comlaints to our Government

Looks like it's time for me to stock up on a few hundred blanks, do unburnt cdr's go bad? I know that burnt ones wear out after a few years.

| I think they "wear out" cause of sunlight. So as long as you keep your CDR's in a dark place i'm pretty sure they'll be fine. |

| sunlight affects them but cdr's will wear out no matter what. the materials they use in the dye age and break down, ie cyanine. |

| You guys do know that with this tax in place, it gives us legal grounds to use file sharing programs such as kaaza... therefore the RIAA or similar canadian counterparts can not come after us for file sharing music because in essense, we are paying for the music via blank media :). |

so when a retail store increases prices on items it sells because of shoplifters does that mean its legal to steal when this happens? |

haha that's a good point. I was just pointing it out because there was recently a case in Canadian court that ruled favoring piracy :). |

Raise the price high enough and I'll stop paying for it and start stealing it. :dunno:
Raising prices doesnt help because why would the people that steal stuff even worry about it, they dont pay for it in the first place. |
