ARGH! Need some opinions on woman troubles... - Click HERE for Original Thread

REFLUX
Ok so my girlfriend, mom and I are having dinner and we bump into a mutual friend at the restaurant.

We chat and he makes mention that I'm a smart guy and good at school.

So I smile, continue to finish the food in my mouth and then my GF makes this joke:

"But I'm better at school than you are!" *cute joking smile*

This is where I need a different perspective:
Am I the only one who thinks this "joke" is rude and impolite?

PraxRX7
2 ways you could look at it I guess.

1. Its rude and you think she actually feels that she is better at school than you are...thus creating a battle for dominance?

2. She was just joking, you should be secure with both her and yourself enough to take a joke and should leave it at that.

:dunno:

Oh yea and:

optional 3: She really is better at school than you are and you just can't admit it

DeathBy240
Depends on the relationship totally. Do you think she ever feels the need to be better than you?

The way I picture it, it doesnt seem like anything to get upset about. Just a little innocent jab at you.

Flex
in all honesty..........so what if she is????

dont sweat the petty stuff.........and dont pet the sweaty stuff......:)

REFLUX
Hahaha yes yes both her & I know and agree that she IS better at school than I am.
I totally admit it & accept it. Quite happy for her success actually :)

Idunno, just seems like these kind of "jabs" aren't things that help a relationship. And there are no obvious signs to me that she has a need to be better than I am.

Also, it's not that it's a big deal to me that she has greater academic success, it's that this "joke" of hers seems rude & inappropriate.
I mean, if I was bragging my ass off about my marks and she brought me back down to earth by reminding me that she's still better, then fine that is justified. Know where I'm coming???

I'll try not to sweat it cuz it really isn't a big deal but hopefully it isn't the beginning of a reoccuring habit.

PraxRX7
have you told her that it bothered you?

Being honest sucks, but if you have an issue with her or something that she has done, you should talk to her about it.

That way you are sure that she isn't purposly trying to be better than you, or look better than you.

That could go 2 ways I suppose though...

1. "Oh I didn't know you felt that way, sorry" - bonus, she cares about your feelings and doesnt want to hurt you...marry the girl

2. Starts some argument about something or other - probably not gonna work out, or an ongoing thing throughout the relationship.

I dunno about you, but I would want to know for sure...I would probably ask or bring it up at an oportune moment (everyone in a good mood). Leaving things undealt with and unsaid in a relationship can only cause long term tension, while dealing with it now may create some short term tension, it remedies the problem (if any).

REFLUX
Yeah we talked about it tonight but I didn't explain it very well so it just ended up pissing her off :dunno:

We'll talk again tomorrow and try to settle it then.

2003specv
Dude. Why would you put up with that shit? Backhand across the face...... problem solved.

jk:D

s2oooR
When I first read what happend withouht finishing the rest of the post, i thoght it was a joke. i would have thought nothing of it, to be honest... mainly because im that way too and I dont take things as serious i guess? I probably woulda said somethign back like, "What did u get in PE again?" (assuming she isnt an athlete too, of course) lol.

Anyways, I think you're right in bringing it up if it did bother you about what she said but from her point of view, I'd probably react the same way she did but without acting all pissed off (im just not like that).... Id be more like, 'ok wth, I said it as a joke.... why are you bringing it up if you know im not really mean that way... and why are you bringing it up now after how many days have passed?' Thats what I'd be thinking :dunno:

...and i dont think it matters if u explained it well or not... just the fact that u brought it up would make me think" ok do u even know me? I said it in a joking way... didnt u see the smile and grin when i said it?"

Dont worry Terry, I still think you did the right thing by bringing it up if it bothered you that much. :)

Flex
Dude.......what the hell did you say to her if you brought it up and all you did was piss her off??????.....:D

If it bugs you that much then I agree talk to her about it.......but if it pissed her off somethings up, this seems like a very small issue and I cant see why she would get mad

Markgase2000
Havent you two had a screaming contest yet? :dunno: After your first one things small like this will become a way to get good hard sex when you make up. Just remember she has more power than you and you will most likely have to cave in on many occasions (unless you figure out you hate her). I know it sounds silly but women get offended easily especially when they try to fit in with the boys but cant and sound stupid. They tend to turn on the eye juice and get there way the best thing IMO you can do is go along with it and convince her she is right that it was just a misunderstanding on your part then procceed with make up sex. This will turn her frown upside down in 2 ways and you get something out of it too. Say something like "you are smarter than me!" Or.......

You could argue with her make her pissed off that much more and kiss the healing power of poon pounding bye bye. Sometimes we gotta admit defeat to maintain the balance. IMO caving in is way more benifitial and they tend to think more clearly after a pounding.

Pretty normal minor stuff terr Im sure you two will be fine.
I felt like goofing off in this post but I hope in a humor like way it cheers you up. :) not intended on Jacking the thread.

Mark:
hahah no worries man :)

Anyways after sleeping on it I agree with most of you guys, it's nothing to be bothered about.
Told her today that I was sorry for being all annoyed & shit.
I wasn't in a particularly good mood yesterday anyways.

But yeah it's all good, thnx for the tips guys

Flex:
Either you're:
-Single
-Extremely good with women
-Gay
-A woman
cuz you should know that a man has the ability to ruin the most foolproof of situations with dumb & testosterony comments ;)

We are only human well except the times we catch ourselves sniffing at womens crotches as they walk by :D

TrevorK
If it's something that she always does, and every time it bothers you then you need to talk about it.

If it happens very, very rarely, no big deal. But if it happens frequently, you need to talk to her about it (Since it obviously bothers her).

snugs
Well if she is smarter than you then trying to explain it to her really won't help because you'll probably screw it up (wait I see you already did)..... so..... uhhhhhh....... hmmmmm..... well...... errrrr......

lol, j/k, you better get in touch with your feminine side real fast, I recommend that you watch at least 10hrs of Oprah before you try and bring up the issue again, and when you do make sure you frame it in a non-accusatory tone. Don't make it her fault (which it may very well be), make it an issue that the two of you can discuss and help her to understand that you find it humiliating when she says stuff like that.

If that doesn't work, call her fat and dump her. :p

Markgase2000
LMFAO! Calling her fat will make her dump you before you can dump her ;) the 3 letter word for "I hate you bitch" almost as bad as calling her a C*NT

bashturd!!

luder
punch her in the ovaries, right in the baby maker.

bluecargirl666
soo.. i can understand the need to shut the man up when hes going on about how good he is.

Testosterone can kill any situation.. at any time. No matter how horney the chick is.. honestly it can turn sex time into "you-better-cuddle-with-me-and-tell-me-how-sorry-you-are-or-you're-never-getting-laid-again time) message for the guys, if the girls with u, she already knows how good you are. Tone it down..

Reflux.. chillax about it, she prolly just felt like getting her 2cents in.. nevermind if it sounded stupid or rude. most of the time chicks dont mean what they say, or forget if you leave it.

to the first part.... Reflux wasnt going on about how good he is... his friend said that. I doubt reflux would've even brought that up...

to the second part.... I told reflux not to worry about it either... and i even said he was over reacting.... but when u say nevermind if it sounded rude or stupid?.... if it were the other way aroudn and reflux said something of that nature... do u think he'd ever here the end of it? Sounds like a double standard if u ask me :dunno:

REFLUX
bluecargirl666:
yeah I've let it pass & just shrugged it off :)

Rommel:
I agree, double standard indeed :D
but leveling the playing field comes with time & effort.

Scintillater
personal opinion: why did she even make the joke, whether or not it is one?

meh.
that's me. i try to never make my guy look little in front of his friends, because it's just retarded and rude. but really, depends on the two of you.

seemed a WEE bit rude to me, but depends on the person. I really don't know, because i don't make jokes like that.

i just KNOW i'm smarter, and it doesn't even need to be said ;) hahahahaha

I'm not really.. actually i cant stand most chicks.. theyre too complicated.. personally i dont understand why they cant shut their traps.. its not like everyone wants to hear their opinion

Terry, here are some words to live by: "Grow some balls and be a mang" (said with Tony Montana type accent).

Seriously, if you're getting hurt feelings from something like this and posting it on the internet in a relationship forum, you need to check your pants to see if there are any testes down there.

"But I'm better at school than you"

Nigga pleaze!

Rude? maybe.. Impolite? possibly..worth making a thread over? NO.

You might think this is rude, and will probably delete my post (zig-hail!), but seriously, remember this quote when you run into problems:

"Grow some balls and be a mang"

I swear to god it will help you resolve 80% of issues you come across with women.

Insomniac
?

Markgase2000
Its what these threads are for :dunno: it helps IMO to get shit off yer chest. And yes I looked down my pants too
:blue: :blue: yup they be there no issues here cept the color.

hahah no at all Chris, I actually appreciate your input :)
As for her comment (mind you this was how many weeks ago ;)) bugging me, I just wanted to see if I was being overly sensitive about it.
And it seems like I was so I just let it go ;)
Also, I believe it's better to talk about a problem than to make some assumption (whether it's right or wrong).
Talking works well

We all know you're Ms. Genius :D

reflux: i completely understand where you stand with that, and think that it's a good thing you passed it up but i dont think you should forget, i mean i was kinda seeing this girl that always poked little "jabs" and it was really annoying, which is why i dont think i could commit myself completely to her..

JdmCrx
Just tell them to get back to the kitchen and say ur going to get beer and then don't talk/see them for weeks. :)
