HARASSMENT FROM EPS - Click HERE for Original Thread

gunmetalalloys
Jim:

a few nights ago (1:30am friday nite) an EPS cop pulled a U'ey and followed me about 8 blocks or so to a few doors down from my house. i wasn't ever speeding, and my car is a bone stock rsx-s. all i have is a slightly tinted clear cover for my plate which he could not have seen before he pulled the U-ey (i just want to keep my plate looking new). i also have a type-r wing and rear tint windows - the fronts are totally clear.

so anyways, he stops a few doors down and at next glance, there was another car pulled up beside him. i park my car at my driveway, go to my trunk because i was wondering what's going on. next thing i know, both cars pull up right in front of my driveway and they are BOTH cops. i get my new FLOORMATS out of my trunk, shut the doors, and take a look at the cruisers. the one visible cop in the passenger seat of the nearest cruiser is giving me this smirk like i'm supposed to piss my pants or something, so i take a long look at him and flash him my FLOORMATS and then go inside the house.

jim, what is the point of this harassment?? i'm young and asian with an import car - is this why i was being followed? i'm an engineer - and like most people on this board, i make my money honestly and don't screw around with the law.

i know they probably aren't doing anything legally wrong, but i think i was being treated like some criminal and that pisses me off.

btw, fort mcmurray rcmp have a celica gt!

GTS Jeff
how would jim know why they were following u? u could have asked the cops that were actually the ones following u. its not hard...u walk up the them and say "hi, why are u following me?"

ClubEL (AzNBonD)
did you record car number and time of day?

go to EPS and file a formal complaint in relations to racial discrimination

Sorry I can't add too much light to this dark subject. I would hate to think that racial stereotyping still exists but I can't speak for everyone. Just for curiousity sake what colour is your rsx-s? If it happens to be white maybe they were looking for the accomplice for the race that happened on Stony Plain road where the 25 year old was killed ... just a thought. I can't tell you what you should do but I would have no problem w/ someone asking me why I was following them. As ClubEL (AzNBonD) stated you can always speak to someone at EPS Headquarters if you wish to do so.

As far as Ft McMurray's Celica ... what colour & what type of things do they do w/ it. I'm glad to see thay are using a non-traditional vehicle.

Let me know how you make out w/ the suspicious vehicle stop you encountered.

Really?! Heh, maybe i should start driving around instead of staying cooped up in my house. But there's just nothing to do in the city!

btw: i'm in Fort Mac, visiting for xmas w/ the parents

Jim, I drive the same car in the same trim but in a red. Gunmetalalloy drives a black car. I've been harassed as well. Whats up with these cops these days. I'm not saying its racial stereotyping but I think it exist. I look at like this, if your asian, young, and drive a brand new car. You might be involved in a gang or sort. I'm not saying you are or not. I work for a living. I'm getting tired of this kind of crap now of days. There are times I want to get out of my car and tell the cop to f off.

REDX2NV
Lol i got harrased a few days ago, i was going around an icy corner in my moms 98 Pathfinder, saw the cop before i slid and made sure i wasnt pissin around, then i slid ..prick pulls me over and lectures me on stunting(which i wasnt even doing).. Anyways there was a bong on my front seat in which i was dropping it off at my friends house as he just left it at mine a few days before. pulls me out of the vehicle and tries to say i was under the influence of driving " he thought i was baked, in which i had NOT", and that smoking weed leads to deaths on the road comparable to drunk drivers..further more he tired to give me a possesion charge cuz i had a bong in my car, but considering there is no weed at all in the bong he couldnt do nuthin so he just made me break the bong(dont care-not mine).

keep in mind i had taken law classes in school, i knew a few things about the law...he wanted to search my vehicle and i replied by saying no and that they did not have the right to search the car, it is not mine, it is my moms and the police have to have permission from her before they can search it..

so to the all the pricks in the Sherwood Park RCMP :thefinger: , this one goes out for you. :thefinger:

(dont hate cops just never had a run in with a nice cop here..)

ClubEL (AzNBonD)
honestly... face it people

most of us live in edmonton... where the majority is still.. and always has been of the caucasian sort. Even though i see very little racial stereotyping in edmonton, there is no doubt in my mind that it exists.

but the city has come a long way... when i was young, in elementary school... i lived on the westend where my school was most caucasians. i myself, in my class was the only asian. and let me tell you, there were some hard times.

now... i never get any racial discrimination.. not on campus, not at the malls, nowhere... EXCEPT... when i was pulled over a couple times

I hope you didn't actually pay for those law classes 'cause if you did you should get your money back. As far as searching a vehicle - if the registered owner is in the vehicle he / she can refuse to give consent for a search; however, when there is drug paraphernalia (or odour of marihuana for that matter) in plain view everyone in the vehicle can be arrested & the vehicle searched roadside (new case law has come out stating search warrants are not always required to search vehicles roadside). As far as you driving your mom's car w/o her in it - you have care & control of the automobile & therefore you can give or deny the consent to search keeping in mind of course if drugs and / or paraphernalia is seen it can be seized & you detained for further investigation.

As far as the stunting, here's something to think about. Pathfinder 4x4 right? How many other vehicles do you think went around that same corner w/o sliding ... especially 4x4s? Just something to ponder.

Jimbo ;)

RezaREX
Just because it has the ability to go 4x4 dosn't mean it was in that mode. My mom drove an Expedition for 2 years and only once was car turned on to 4x4 mode. Point being there has been many a time when I have slid in my car travelling well below the speed limit and at speeds deemed safe for the road and my car is AWD. Ice is ice and you can slide regardless of speed. Just something to ponder.

REDX2NV
Hmmm here is something to point out to you, some sport utility vehciles and almost all 4x4 trucks have what you call a "Transfer Case".. This allows you to switch from 2wd to 4wd, vice versa, aswell as there is a 4low and a "N" setting(neutral)..

There was no "marijuana" in the vehicle...Just the smoking device..

I took law classes in high school, gives me a better understanding of the law and how it works.

You know what i get harrassed all the time from police and i am fucking sick and tired of getting fucked around by police officers, not to sound like a dick but i have NEVER had a nice encounter with a police officer, EVER!!!! When i got rear ended i was blamed by the police and charges pending on me due to the accident....Well whoopty dee doo guess who won....me! Never would have won if the other driver had not admitted to her fault(very attractive MILF on a cell phone, not paying attention in her brand new 2002 4runner)..

Hmm lets see i got jumped on whyte ave bye two guys once and got arrested along with a fighting ticket. Cops dont even care what i had to say just arrested me and gave me a $250 ticket. This one is going to court soon.

Latest ticket wow this was f'ing retared ticket, cop tried to give me a ticket for going 129 in a 60 zone, lol that was a gag..To bad i was going 84 in a 80 zone, oh noo..

Not a personal flame, just experiences i've had with the rcmp havent ever been pleasant...And that i base my decision on previous experiences in my life rather than online internet message boards who promise "nice" police officers..

ManHunter
Well well, let' not dump on Jim who is here to help us because of bad experiences with other police officers.

The fact is, young people driving cause more trouble than any other age group. So, unfortunately, if you look young you may attract more attention from the police. That's the "the many suffers because of the few" law at work here. I also believe that a police officer isn't going to waste time stopping you without any good reason, unless they are really bored and like to abuse their power.

When I was 18, I had long hair (below the shoulders) and I was driving a chevette. And I would often give a ride to my friend who looked like a skinhead. I was getting stopped by the cops about once a week "just for verification". I always found that funny because I knew me and my friend fitted a certain "profile"... I also knew I wasn't doing anything wrong so nothing was gonna happen.

So, chill out and take it easy. If you fit the the profile, there's nothing you can do about it. The cops aren't there just to harass you, they are there to stop people who, unfortunately, look like you from doing bad things.

MH

RezaREX
I guess I'm lucky for not being pulled over that often but I do live around the end of anthony henday (where ppl used to race before the ghetto copter came in) anyway... I've been stopped twice driving down there on my way to a friends house both times asked why I was there and if I was planning on racing and then was told you better not race here cause i will catch you. So I drive a Japanese car, so I'm 18 years old, people tell me to shut up because the police are just doing their job and while some of them are, most aren't. It was my understanding that the job of a police officer is to enforce the law and treat people equally. I think its obvious that equality went right out the window and some police are enforcing their own laws. I wouldn't call my situation a harrasment but it sure did piss me off the second time I was pulled over for minding my own business, travelling, the speed limit and being young. I think I missed it when they passed a law that if your under 25 and drive an import the police can do whatever the hell they want to do to you. Nothing against you Jim as our once encounter was decent but I'd like to get from point A to B without being stopped for ABSOLUTELY no valid reason. Maybe I should just wear a ski mask while driving to hide my youth. Oh wait now I'm obviously a street racer on my way to rob a bank. hmmmmm any suggestions?

chowder
Theres nothing you can do now of days. Street racing is part of the import culture and it will forever will be. That little accident we had a few weeks ago with the street racing. Those weren't even imports. hint hint. This little incident doesn't help us either. Hopefully Jim can pass on what he has learned from this board that not everyone is a street racer but a law bidding citizen.

schlong8
Agree w/ Chowder, but it seems today in the news that every highspeed accident is blamed on Street Racing. Especially w/ the most recent accident on Stony Plain Rd. A 25 y/o driving his mother's car was travelling at 140kph. How do we know he was street racing? Are they attributing this accident to organized Street Races? b/c that is what they seem to be eluding too. What about all these "rumors" that this 25y/o individual was freakin drunk (>0.2 blood alcohol). Are people just saying this to "protect" the scene or is this something the media chose to leave out b/c Street Racing is a much hotter topic and they need some canon-fodder.

Maybe this was just a stupid person making a really stupid decision, which from my point-of-view has been the cause of all, if not a large majority, of the Street Racing deaths. These races don't seem to be organized, they seem to be spur of the moment i-see-u-at-a-stoplight-let's-race-mofo type of encounter.

For example, the Porshe racing in downtown vancouver, or even the Stony Plain incident. If it were organized street races, y are they racing on crowded streets in the middle of the day? Most of the Street Racing locations seem to be in remote, sparsely populated conditions in the middle of the nite. The people who do organize them seem to be responsible enough to a certain degree to make it safe and orderly. So what is the media referring to when they say street racing? The 1) spur of the moment at the redlight or 2) the org street races?

Both are illegal, yes but maybe it just seems that the media doesn't bother to differentiate the 2 since either one will garner more attention and boost their ratings. :dunno:

I think (this is also what i said in the Global interview but she never included it, right after i said "i don't think u can ever get rid of street racing"), that there is always going to be this "stupid" element in society and that no matter how much the law clamps down on the organized street races, u will still witness these so-called Street-Racing deaths b/c of stupid people making impulsive, and stupid decisions.

Done rant.

yea whatever, u deserve it cuz u dont use your signal lights.

honestly...do u think EVERYONE is harassed by cops the way you are? the answer is NO. ive never been harassed by cops before. one was sort of a jerk handing out a speeding ticket, but thats about it. cops are usually pretty awesome ppl. i have lots of respect for anyone who would risk their life for public safety and upholding the law for society to function well. if jackasses like u got your way, society would be run by rapists, killers, and thieves.

have u ever stopped to consider that it might be YOUR fault that cops harass u? instead of pointing the finger at cops...u might consider:

-stop dressing like a thug-baller
-getting rid of the 6 inch dyed bangs
-stop racing around the road like a jackass
-stop giving cops the "im a thug-balla beotch" look whenever u them

and dont tell me that u aint like that cuz something is seriously up....seeing as i am never bothered by the police

Sorry but no I can't relate to that type of "fun game". I take my job seriously when it comes to enforcement. My wife tells me I am a different person when I put the uniform on. That doesn't mean I don't try to lighten the situation for some of the offenders I stop though. A lot of people only get to meet the police when there's red & blues behind them & they're being stopped. I try to put the people at ease & get a little rapport happening (of course there are those folks who just don't relate to my warm & fuzzy side - then they get to meet the other not so easy going JIMBO). When I am doing the educational / awareness portion of my duties I do an about face & become a totally different person once again. I do have fun w/ my job but I definitely don't take it lightly. With the YIELD program I hope to meet a lot of you & get to know the people who enjoy driving, racing & rebuilding sport compacts.

Thats a really good way of going at it! I have an example of an officer having a similar take on it as you Jim.

My buddy and I had a race in the city at night. It was on 97st north at just about the last set of lights. We hit about 150 in an 80 :( ANyways there was a cruiser off to the side, which we didn't see ofcourse. I saw a set of lights coimg up behind me fast(those cruiser have balls!) We were pulled over, I thought we weerre screwed!!! He yelled at us for a bit. Did the usual like check out our info. He came back and talked to the both of us, made excellent points and let us go! With out a ticket, but with a warning. He could of towed our cars. Since then we haven't street raced in the city. I thought about reasons why he let us off with a warning, could be a couple of things. We were lucky though. And it did change our views. Sorry for me going on, its late I dont know what im doin :)

WookeysRX7
Red i do agree with you on the Park's cops harasing people! I get pulled over all the time there cause my g-f lives there. I was pulled over one time and he asked me, " If you live in Beaumont how come you are in Sherwood Park?" and i was like " Because my g-f lives here." In my mind i was like why the fuck should i tell you?" I got pulled over another time for supposedly screamin out of the parkin lot of the 7-11 on clover bar and baseline. I was doing 2 kph. I was in my g-f's car and it has a digital dash and it freakin said 2kph. And then he was like i could have given you 8 different tickets but i am only going to give you the one! So i politely asked," for future reference can i know those 7 other tickets?" and he was like " No you can't! And even if i wanted to tell you i can't remember them, they are written down in the car." Now what the hell is that? I can't remember BS. K, i am done. I just don't like the sherwood park cops. All the other cops that i have been pulled over by were nice. I got pulled over for doing 135 in a 100 zone and he took my ticket down to 120kph. SO i was like sweet!

K i am done ranting!

Im moving to the Sherwood Park in February. I hope I dont have similar experiences.

gunmetalalloys
i MIGHT have been racially profiled because i have some interior lighting in my car and the cops might have seen my face as they passed me before turning around. the cop sitting in the passenger seat of one of the cruisers was asian as well. i think the biggest factor was the kind of car i was driving though.

my bro-in-law (who is in the Calgary police force) told me i might have been followed if there was an APB or whatever issued... if so, then ok... but why didn't they question me and why was the cop smirking at me like he was there just to try and scare me? if so, i say "fuck you". this incident caused me to avoid driving my car on new years eve because i'm afraid i'll get picked on again, whereas i know my gf's saturn is safe.

anyways, my bro-in-law says he also picks on "ricers", as do his cop buddies.

and about that cavalier going 140 in a 50 resulting in the deserving death of an idiot: the media emphasized the "street racing" part but let in comments by his mom that the 25yr old "would never street race" and is a hard working, smart, honest, blah blah blah individual. if he was asian would those comments have gotten through? somehow i think not...

btw, the reason i didn't approach the cops was because i know my plate cover is illegal and i would prefer not to give them reason to step out of the cruiser and hand me a ticket.

while on the subject of cops not doing their jobs - i mentioned to an officer on the southside that i seen some suspicious activity near the park by snow valley ski hill. all he ended up doing was suggesting that i was making out with my gf there. so, i tell him that a young girl gets dropped off there at 1 or 2am and walks into the pitch black forest area while the car waits, and she emerges from the woods a half hour later, and all he can do is make fun of me??? she could've been doing a drug deal or having a gang bang or something!

aside from smokey the bear, i have never had a good encounter with a cop. jim, you're the 1st level headed officer i have ever talked to.

oh, 1 more thing. whenever my bro-in-law gets pulled over for EXCESSIVE SPEEDING (160 in 110 for example), he just flashes his badge AND GETS A FREE RIDE!!!!

equal treatment? i think not! cops take care of their own!

hmm, i wonder if cruisers ever get ticketed. or city bus drivers and such...?

I use to live in camrose and when they got there photo radar van in the first month 50% of the tickets went to cop cars did they have to pay theses tickets I don't know but I highly doubt it. I have had a few run in's with the police and I am averaging 50% sometimes they are really nice amd other times they suck Leduc is another bad place for cops used to live there and got harresed alot in my camero

ManHunter
I've been living in Sherwood Park for 4 years now, and I've never been harassed by police. and I drive a red "sports car" (well, sporty car).

Thank you!!!

Here's one for you. One of my co-workers (let's call him Boom Boom - inside joke) was heading into the city to back-up another member who had a vehicle stopped on Hwy #16 near 215 Street (high risk offender). Boom Boom was in our non-traditional "Black pickup truck" w/ full lighting equipment activated. Sometime later the RCMP rec'd a photo radar ticket from EPS showing Boom Boom on the date in question. From the black / white photo that was sent out you couldn't see the red / blues but when researched the colour computer photo showed perfectly the strobe light package fully lit. For obvious reasons this ticket was withdrawn but I do know of other photo radar tickets that have filtered their way from headquarters down to the individual unit & then onto a specific member for payment

Thanks again "gunmetalalloys" for the thumbs up!!!

cops are people too

while some people are assholes, and some are nice. the same with cops. some are assholes and some are nice. there are plenty of small minded individuals, regular folk and cops, who have trouble thinking outside of the box. there's nothing you can do if the person is a bigot. i seriously doubt there's anything you can do or say to change this persons mind. hatred and stupidity isn't a switch. the best you can do act civil and courteous and hope for the best. here's an example of the most oddest run in with cops i've ever had.

this was a couple of years ago, a sunny saturday afternoon. i was riding in my friends car as we had pulled from 149st N bound onto Stoney Plain Rd West bound. a cop car passing us in the opposite direction pulls a u-turn and follows us for a few blocks. eventually flashes his lights and my friend makes a right hand and pulls over as to not block stoney plain road. the officer approached the driver side window at an angle and from a distance, and then peered into the car. my friend had politely asked what the problem was. at this point the cop relaxed, approached the driver side window normally. now this cop could have been an asshole, but actually was very friendly.

he proceded to tell us my friends car had matched a description of another car but he had the wrong car. politely asked for both of our ID's and vehicle registration. returned them, apologized for inconveniancing us and let us on our way. as my friend was replacing his registration two more cop cars passed us. obviously, while he was tailing us, he was waiting for backup. my friend then says that he saw the police officer, in his side view mirror remove that safety strap on his holster as he was approaching the car

man, that coulda ended really ugly. but that's what really stuck with me, how friendly the cop was after he made an honest mistake.

albertarc,

How long have you been a member?

to all the whiners,

You have know idea of what it takes to be a police officer and do the job!! I am not being rude or trying to insult anyone but in all of your stories "YOU" never did anything wrong and the cop was just harassing you.....OKAY . Treat the cops with some respect and you will get it back. I was a kid too, not that long ago mind you but I had some dealings with cops and they were ALL good ones....be nice and respect what they do.

Like albertarc has said many times, if you don't draw attention to yourself it would help out your situations. I am not saying that the cop never just harasses you for the hell of it and I know some can be a-holes. I was with the local popo for a while but left because it was not what I expected it to be. I saw some very stupid things and sometimes didn't have time to pull them over.....but the people I did pull over because they were doing something stupid or drawing attention to themselves.

Cops are humans too and maybe that one was having a bad day.....but in no way does that give them the right that he/she can take it out on you. BUT just remember the last time you had a bad day......did you take it out on anyone?? some yes, some no.

Last bit here.......please remember that if you are unhappy about they way you were treated there are ways of making a formal complaint. AND remember that they COPS are just doing their JOBS.

MH

i agree totally man, cause i just turned 16 in september, and i get stopped all the time. pretty well every time that i drive (dc2696 know this lol) anyway, i dont look at day older than 14 so, i agree, they usually ask me if this is my car or not, thinking that i stole it from my parents or somethin. it gets annoying after a while, but there is nothing i can do about it, but grow about 6 inches lol. :D

driving the speed limit on a barren road at 1:30am in an essentially stock acura does not seem like "drawing attention" to me...

and i wouldn't be so easily dismissive of some complaints in this forum about harassment. my bro-in-law basically tells me some cops will go about harassing "ricers" just for the heck of it, not because they are "having a bad day". cops are public servants, and ANY public servant needs to conduct themselves in a professional manner, from the prime minister down to your local postie.

dogstar
well, some history... i used to work security, which means i could come home at all hours of the night, and frequently did.

anyways, one night im coming home around 4 am, and the "neighborhood" patrol car comes along and follows me to the house.
i pretty much ignore him and keep on driving, parking as i normally would. i get out, and foolishly grab my baton. obviously in the dark, im holding a long thick tube, which probably looks a hell of a lot like a shotgun.
lights come on, voice suggests i set the gun down and face the vehicle.

i do as the officer suggests and after they came over and checked things out, the driver apologizes and we talk for a minute.

incident... yes. my fault.... yes.

last february, im driving my date home to spruce grove, hauling ass admittedly (~140 in a 100) and i see blue and red.
i pull over promptly and the officer approaches with the standard "do you know why i pulled you over?" and i requested he confirm my suspicions, and he told me i was doing 138 in a 100, and i offered an apology, and admitted i was in a hurry and not paying attention to my speed.
well, lucky me, he wrote it down to 121 in a 100.

incident... no. my fault... duh.

last portion of my long winded post.
its about 2:30 am, im driving along 118th ave heading home, cruiser pulls in behind me.
officers obviously running plates, and i see another white boat pull beside him, which then accelerates and pops in front of me.
both cars hit their lights and the cruiser in front of me basically runs me off the road, almost hitting a cyclist, and the curb.
my gf is freaking out, and im kinda angry they choose to nearly kill an innocent cyclist (shouldnt be on the roads anyways...) to pull me over.
two officers with shotguns rush the truck, while i smile and slide my hands out the window.
im yanked from the truck and have a knee pressed into my neck while cold steel massages my head. my girlfriend is getting similar, but slightly more gentle treatment on the otherside.

they search my truck quickly, like they expected to find 100 pounds of dope right away or something, then all four officers get up and haul ass back to their cars.

i considered filing a formal complaint, but i just gave my 'uncle' some names and numbers, and let him ask some questions internally.
ended up getting a file letter apology which wasnt even signed, nor did it list four officers, having only 3 names.

no reason was given, apparently i looked like some kinda deadly drug dealer or something, even tho i look like mr. clean. or like a cop, depending who you ask.

its things like this that make me dislike some police.

gunmetalalloys
dude, i can't believe they didn't even say "sorry man, wrong guy" as they rushed off! i mean they pointed guns at your heads! that's some serious shit! i would've said "thanks for apologizing you assholes!". what're they gonna do? arrest you for swearing?? can they do that??

dogstar
i coulda done a lot of things, like probable cause for legal action... but for what, to piss them off so they have a good excuse to harrass me further.

maybe they screwed up, maybe they wanted to be cretins, but oh well, its over, and my police officer uncle rattled some cages.
good enough, and maybe it wont happen again.

Park
I have been pretty lucky and not had any run-ins or harassment from EPS or RCMP for that matter. I drive a pretty noticeable vehicle (White Sonoma, bagged on Neeper Flys) I take it to work at least once a week (in summer) which is Millwoods all the way to Spruce Grove..Cruise it every night weather permitting. I was pulled into a safety check (lights, signals, horn etc..) on Whyte Ave. one night and not one officer said a thing about how low it was or the big hole in the box. There have even bin occasions where I have gotten thumbs up from police even though I drive like I'm intoxicated trying to avoid all the pot holes in this town. I don't know if I get left alone because I'm not considered a kid anymore or what..it's kind of nice to be left alone.. (knock on wood)

Here's to hoping the rest of you have some better luck....

monztur
A while back I was stopped in in sherwood park I was just hanging around the mall not doing anything wrong I had a 1966 datsun sportscar. RC stops me and starts freaking out telling me to get out of his town (I lived in edmonton) next thing I know two rc are there and they are impounding my car ,they drive it into their garage at the back of the police station keep me there for 2 hours trying to scare me and my girl friend. fianally they let me go if I promise never to go into the park again. Guys this happened in august 1967 36 years ago So all these problems with harassing hasnt really changed very much......... :wtf:

Didn;t you say you drive an 85 corolla? Nuff said....

When I had my opld beater, 86 lude, with NO EXHAUST!, I never, not once, got harrassed by cops, never was I ever pulled over for no reason. beaters never get pulled over,

Now that I have my shiny Integra, I've been pulled over probably 6 times in 8 months for absolutely no reason except to give me a hard time,

For all you people claiming racial stereotyping, you're dead wrong I'm a whiteboy and I get as much as anyone, it's the cars. They see a new Honda/Mazda/Toyota with a young driver and they give 'em a hard time.

Must be the official policy in town....

One thing I would like to add ... we tend to know the types of vehicles that get stole locally on a regular basis. When we see a vehicle that tends to be a target & the driver just doesn't seem to fit (eg. registered to a 50 yr old female but a 25 year old male is driving) we like to check to ensure it isn't stolen. Even after doing a computer check on the plate we can't always say the vehicle isn't stolen ... it may just not have been reported yet. I have had people thank me for stopping them as they believe if their vehicle is ever stolen an officer might just check it again with the thief behind the wheel. Police officers tend to have a weird sixth sense when it comes to right / wrong. When the hairs on the back of my neck stand up it means something just isn't right. Not very often is my "Spider Sense" wrong. Is this called stereotyping? I would say it's more like being a trained observor & deciphering all the stuff that's coming into the old melon from what is seen / heard / felt. It's one of the ways that we catch bad guys & return stolen property to the owners / insurance companies so insurance rates don't go through the ceiling ... okay any more than they already do now!!

Jimbo

redbaron303
Not having read everything, but I would much rather have to Police/RCMP run my plates and check out the car to make sure it's not stolen, so that way if it is I get it back in one piece because they were doing their job, and at the same time the punk theif gets his ass handed to him!

Jim,

I can tell that you have been a GRC :P ...I mean RCMP for a long time. If people didn't know that you were a police officer I bet they would think that you were a lawyer or politician......you always answer in the most professional and "best" for PR way. This is just an observation...and a BIG  for keeping your responses respectable and professional even considering some of the negative statements towards the EPS and RCMP.
