DVD Burner Capabilities?! - Click HERE for Original Thread

LudeDude19
can u dload a file in like .avi format and burn it to a cd and it will play in a normal dvd player like xbox etc?!

or how do I do it?!

ChromeDragon
No. In order to get it to play on a normal DVD player you will need to convert it into the MPEG file format used on DVDs. There are DVD players that you can pickup which will play DIVX AVIs though. I've seen a couple at Best Buy, both for under $150.

maybe i just need a decoder..or encoder...or..i dunno

BananaBoy
Superstore used to sell a Phillips Divx DVD player that play almost anything you burn for about 80 bucks. Not sure if they still do.

Doom9 This site has in-depth guides on making VCDs and loads of other info.

most dvd players will play VCD files, MPG files, and some play WMV files. if you don't know wtat the player can play, then put some MPG files (not MPEG, the filename must be changed for it to work on most players to MPG) on a CD and see if it plays them. if you got AVI's you'll probably have to convert them to another format like VCD or MPG, but that' not very easy at all :(
