| Ok heres the story. I was heading East on the Whitemud, going to highway 14 North I believe it is. So I see an EPS cruiser going the same way. Once we get on to highway 14 im the second car behind the crusier. I continue to go 100 and pass the cruiser. Then I take the Sherwood Park exit I see the cruiser follow me. Im thinking why are you going to the Park??? its an EPS. I stop at the first set of lights with a few other cars. The crusier stops about 5 car lengths behind me, I have no idea why would an officer do that. I continue on my way when the light is green and the cruiser takes the left at the light. Now sorry for taking so long but why would the cruiser stop 5 lenghts behind me, and can an on duty EPS cruiser enter Sherwood Park? I thought it was an RCMP jurisdiction. |

Hi TheWask;
Not sure about the reasoning behind stopping a few car lengths back. I suppose it could be any number of reasons???
As far as jurisdiction - a sworn member of EPS has peace officer status anywhere within the province of Alberta. We have pursuits that come out of the city into our area where EPS continues with our assistance. As far as RCMP jurisdiction - now this is only hypothetical (let's not even try to figure out the logistics!!) but if a pursuit originated in Vancouver & a RCMP member was following, it could end up in PEI w/ the same officer pursuing. That's what the good old C stands for in RCMP.
Hope this helps!!
Jimbo :huh: |
