Hey jim I was just wondering what your view on airsoft guns is.. It seems that its a grey area subjeect.. On the one hand they are pretty much replicas.. but they fire a projectile.. so there not replicas.. but they don't go 500FPS withough heavy modification.. whats your view on the subject.. I am a member of a local club we have actually had the head RCMP guy from western canada come out to a game and borrow a gun to do testing on.. But I was just wondering what your view was..

Hey Nightstalker;

I am kinda illiterate when it comes to the airsoft sport but from reading some of the other discussions I gather it is similar to paintball - just a bit more realistic & more range style than rambo style (am I close?). I am a huge target shooting nut (9mm, 357, 22LR etc) & truly love the sport. Anytime someone is around firearms and / or replicas etc there must a certain amount of respect given both for the weapon & the other people around you.

I may just make a suggestion for anyone transporting airsoft weapons in their vehicles ... if you are ever stopped by the police for a violation etc please be up front w/ the member & tell him what it is & where it is. Now I'm not saying that anyone on this forum would do this but I'll use this example: if someone gets stopped & there's an airsoft MP5 in the passenger seat you can bet you'll be seeing the business end of the officer's duty pistol & a whole bunch of backup screaming to the scene. That's obviously not what anyone wants to see.

I would be interested to learn more about this sport!!

well if you are interested I would be more then willing to invite you out =). I am have a pretty open attitude.. We do things like calling the RCs before we play to let them know whats going on.. I carry both my side arm and rifle in a gun case in my trunk when I am going to and from the field. The thing is though that it is such a gray zone.. I know that If I pulled something like my m4 on a cop I could totally see why he would shoot me.. the hole in the end of the barrel is only .4 mm different then the real m4s. All though I think they would likely be taking a shit in there pants if I pulled something like a c9 para out or a law rocket launcher. But ya, I would love to have you out if you are interested =).

Maybe I should explain what it is exactly..

Airsoft is a game that actually was created before paintball. The guns are created in japan where they actually were first produced as a way for people to be gun collectors in japan but not break the law at the same time. As all firearms are illegal there. The guns fire a 6mm plastic BB, now the muzzel velocity is usually around 200 feet per second with a stock weapon. Mine see here.

fires at around 350 feet per second with the standard .25 gram projectle. The local club has around 20-30 total members with about 12-18 out for everygame. We also have a sister team in calgary that comes up for games and plays huge ones with us.

The sport is generally more militaristic then paintball.. we like to play with real objectives as much as possiable. We have a ranking system for players. And we use props to make it more realistic. We have a fake bomb that we can use to bomb tagets.. fake hostages to rescue/get killed by the entry team as they attempt to take buildings / save hostages.

The guns work on a electric piston system and are extreamly accurate compaired to paintball. you can put bust threw a one inch hole at 50 feet no problem. I have hit people center mass at 30-40 yards with no real problem. Its great fun.
