AC/heater problem - Click HERE for Original Thread

well I have a problem thats kinda baffling me..

my AC was working just fine, until just in the past 2 weeks or so I've been noticing this problem, I can get heat out of the system, but no cool air, and even when everything is turned to the off position, I still get heat through the vents, and they're hot to the touch. My AC control panel works, but has no backlighting (I ripped the thing open to see if there were any obvious wiring problems, but couldn't find anything) so I've just memorized the position of the buttons, and I just keep pressing down til I assume its at the bottom level, where cold air should be coming from the system, but still nothing. I've also noticed a bit of a burning smell, althought that COULD still be from the cone that got stuck to my exhaust and melted at the last autocross
I really hate problems like this, just so frustrating to track down and diagnose..
if anybody has ideas on what could be causing my problems, I'd love to hear 'em.. thanks

Hi Dave,

I read a quote recently that is very true. If your supra has something wrong with it, then it is working perfectly. If your Supra has nothing wrong with it, then there is something wrong.

It is possable that it is your Heater Control unit may be pooched, you may be out of AC refrigirant, you may have a leak in your system. Or you may have eaten your AC belt not causing the AC compressor to spin. Along those lines check to see if the AC compressor kicks in when the AC is supposed to ie( The AC button is pushed) you should hear a loud click when it connects. It may be something as simple as no power is getting to the AC compressor. But check the belts first.

My AC does not work, but I am out of refridgerant. I solved that problem by removing my AC belt. It gave me an extra pony or two. :D

Hope this helps man.

couldn't be more true :p

thanks, I'll go through and check things out more thoroughly tonight..

anybody know a good place to get the refrigerant refilled?

also, anybody happen to see a AC control unit in a parts car anywhere?

if its going to be a lot of trouble fix this, I might just rip the system out, save ~35lbs or so, and gain a couple hp :)
Currently, I'm just using rolled down windows.. works fine for me, unless its raining that is

Hi Dave,

I hope it is a quick cheap fix to get it done and back working.

As for the refridgerant I believe you are still using the R12? You would need to convert to R134A as the R12 was banned due to Freeon and CFC's. I do not know the process involved in doing it, but I recall it not being all that cheap. I have heard that there is a new refridgerant out there that you can use with out doing a conversion. However this would render it useless if you have a leak somewhere in your system.

I would drop by tonight but it is my Bro's B-day. Going out for the evening. I may be able to drop by Thurs and take a look at it, or if worse comes to worse, we can check it out at the Club meet on Saturday.

i know you have to replace all your AC seals on the lines for retrofiting.
