Honestly, that should offend anyone of any religion, or those who respect religion.
It was most likely made as a harmless joke, but it's only harmless to those who don't put stock in it.
I try not to get TOO up in arms about this stuff, because I know how it's indended. (making a scene is what everybody expects, and what everybody's sick of) Still grates on you though. |

Agreed. It's your perogative if you don't believe in Christianity, but no need to make a mockery of it. |

ya, i think that was a little much...
edit: you know what i just realized? i just watched an 11 minit video of some guy getting a sex change, put to music. and the though of putting the "hang in there" sign on jesus bothered me a far sight more than the dickless wonder. what is the point of the internet again? |

| i try to respect religeons, but sometimes people just need to let go of childish fears. its been shoved down my throat enough growing up in this society, it's just fair to stick it back. if someone has problems accepting that others find their particular religeon to be silly, then they have known just a little bit of the virus that has cost so much all this time. |

You just completely contradicted yourself there. You can't respect religion and then mock it. And you want to talk about childish? How about 'sticking it back'.
I know there are real idiots in the faith, but for the sake of those of us who can mind our own business, don't make us out to be fools. |

Perhaps because they keep to themselves?.
My thing is, if you don't like it, noone is threatening your family with a pack of dynamite if you don't look at it. So why are you?. |

By no means am I saying people should make fun of Buddha. Just a trend I noticed. I'm part of the faith everyone loves to hate.
um. curiosity? Am I wrong to think people post a thread to get reactions and opinions? Or are we only allowed to give positive reinforcement? I didn't even kick up a stink.
Let me know when I step out of line. Otherwise, leave me be if I practice restraint on topics that are extremelly important to me. |

No, you are absolutely correct. I posted this thread with the specific intent of undermining the christian faith and reducing the general respect all people may have for Jesus and christians in general. I did not post this thread because I thought some might find the content mildly amusing, or even (dare I hope) moderately silly.
Be advised that you have now become part of my fiendishly diabolical plan to debase and destroy christianity worldwide by spreading images of jesus wearing a hat and baggy pants to all boards on the known net. MUAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!! |

Nope, but there are two different schools of thought on this one.
One is the: Yeah that's bad and I think it should be banned.
The other: OMG That is terrible, I must take it upon myself to save the world and speak out for those who are not speaking out, etc, etc, etc.
The latter of which I was exposed to very recently. A co-worker recntly started posting ads for computer service around the college, a slightly juvenile drawing of a nurse with the caption "Is your computer sicky poo?" Some professor of psycology took it upon herself to tear them all down on the account that it (her words, not mine) "promotes rape against women, discriminating against male nurses, and offensive, I am a professor of psycology for 3 years I know what I am talking about"
Hm, last I checked, she wasn't speaking for in my best interests.
I don't mind if people disagree with something, I really don't. If you don't like it, that's your problem, not mine. If you wanted to discuss it that's fine too, you are free to voice your opinions as I am free to express my emotions ;)
So in short, no, you're not stepping out of line anywhere, I do enjoy actual conversation and snappy banter. But if you don't like something, then tell us why.
But if all you want to do is intrude on my intelligence by saying "That's offensive, you're offensive, I'm leaving and I'm taking that offensive crap down" you can goto hell, quietly or screaming, don't matter to me either way.
btw, I always knew Snugs had it in him!... |

Well, I'm not trying to do either. That's why my comment was, 'not my kind of humour'. :)
If you really want me to say why it bothers me, I can. Do we really want this to get that serious?
Pretty much, if you want to do a dress up Jesus, go ahead. I'll probably laugh at it too. But making light of Christ on the cross is stepping into an entirely different territory. One is making humour about a man, the other is mocking an act of self sacrifice, where a man gave his life to a cause. It's a topic that brings pain to a lot of people, and this just rubs salt into the wound. Kind of like, you just don't laugh at the Holocaust. Some people refuse to believe that happened too. :dunno:
So, did we burry that stick deep enough in the mud yet? :p
*edit*
And that prof. is a nut job. |

| I try to respect them, but someties i just get weak, and must mock something such as the topic at hand. Im not perfect, nor do I claim to be. I wonder how I would be able to take back all the "lords prayers" that I was forced to say when I was in school? I don't just dislike christianity (and all 100 slightly different factions), I also almost equally dislike all other religeons, I just don't have enough time to include them all in a post, when not many want to read about the other ones anyhow. :drama: |

I get that. My views on religion are a far cry from the way I was raised to think. There was a mandatory part to it all that is complete bullshit, IMO. It's not my job to convert the world, or even my closest friends. I keep it to myself, until asked, or when I feel the need to defend it.
Anyway, I don't want to come off as the token whiny Christian. There are enough of those in this world without me adding to the problem. |

I think you've discovered why Christianity is either a love or hate thing with people.
I don't follow christianity but I can respect those that do, just don't push your values down on me or try and convert me, if anything, show how rich your life if through example, not forcing it down on me.
It's not the quiet ones that bug me, it's the ones that are always praising it.
ie: Two ways of convincing you to go skydiving:
"Hey, this skydiving this in pretty cool, I have a voucher and it was a pretty decent time and the video made was alot of fun. Wanna try it?"
"OMG, OMG, OMG, skydiving is the shit man, seriously, you're doing it, right now, come and do it, let's go do it right now, right now, you're kangaroo piss if you don't do it, you're doing it NOW"
It's called leadership by example. I'd rather have people of their own free will choose to do what I do rather than bash them over the head with my principals.
Sure I didn't think the puzzle/dressup thing wasn't cool, so I closed the browser. But I guss that's how I deal with things :) |
|
|
| oldraven |
Definately man, I agree with all of that. I used to be the OMG OMG guy, (well, not literally :P ). Thank goodness I'm not a 12 year old blind follower anymore. :)
Every mistake in Christian history was made while using force. That never changed. You don't invite a friend to dinner with a gun. Pass judgement on those people all you want. But don't judge the faith based on the fanatics. In most cases, these people actually contradict the whole meaning of the faith.
It's like a n00b claiming if he gets 150hp at 6psi, then he'll make 300 if he dails it up to 12. Don't base your judgment off of assumptions, or a rant on your buddy's blog. Actually find out what it's about first. |

I just can't wait till religeon becomes officially retired. either that or one finally conquers the whole planet. that time will come someday, but definitely not im my lifetime... then discussions like this won't have to risk raising anyones' bloodpressure, or get anyone killed(depending on where you are and when).
here's a good one... Aliens wouldn't want to contact us even if they were hanging around just out of our observable range-what a mess that would create if they did! wouldn't surprise me if this turned out to be true. |

Well, really, I don't think anyone has raised their bloodpressure here. There's nothing wrong with talking about religion if people can listen to each other and keep their cool. Unfortunately ignorant and closed minded people can't pull that one off. They exist on both sides of the fence.
When it comes down to it, no one really knows what's going on. We just all have our own theories. Some are based on science, some on faith, and some on both. I don't believe anything can be all or nothing. There are too many sources to ignore all but one. |
