Gas Mileage - Click HERE for Original Thread

Whitehatchback
I noticed my car has poor gas mileage and don't really know what to do. I've done the injector cleaner, cleaned out the throttle, and done a fuel system tune-up. What else could it be? (also, I know that in colder weather you get less km's\tank) :P

Dirty_SOHC
Change the plugs, Distributor rotor and cap.

dogstar
do the above, and change the plugs and air cleaner, if they havent been done.

also, winter usually means more idling, even if its just 30 seconds more each time you start it. when you run a bunch of errands and start the car each time, say 5 times a day, that sucks back a lot more gas than in the summer when you just start and drive off.

one last thing, people tend to drive more in winter, as there isnt much to do at home sometimes, and entertainment tends to be further away, as well as girl/boyfriends needing to be picked up...
that wont change your mpg rating, but itll make you use more gas all the same.

redbaron303
Is everyone basically suggesting a tune up, and the result possibly helping the fuel econ?! Hmm.... something I'll do to my moms car in the spring!

NCC-1701D
question ...what is bad fuel economy?....not to make fun but what are you getting in terms of km/L......

Dirty_SOHC
My terms of back fuel economy is 30 Km for almost half a tank in a civic hatchback

Bimmer
holy, so u are telling us that you get less than 100km for the whole tank?

darkman
Check or test your sensors. O2 sensor would be the first on my list...

u cant be serious :o

reno
Your car's computer will detect the low temps and run rich until it hits normal operating temperatures.

I wouldn't be overly concerned. Just how bad is your mileage?

hes just a crazy mofo running rich on huge ass injectors...

so how much longer til the turbo man?

BlueTurboEGG
I'd check the O2 sensor aswell... I was running rich for the last two years and I'm getting HORRIBLE milage, less than 250kms/30L!!!

Gonna try the O2 sensor myself...

SlowAzzPorsche911T
you know what? Un-plug that stupid O2 sensor... that can sometimes lead to a rough idling or other problems... I did it on my Jag and it went from 15.5 mpg to about 16.5 so it can make a big difference, maybe think about getting a new computer, jdm or something like that if you're worried about fuel mileage... or go buy yourself a dodge aries.... 450 k.m to a tank in the city and only 30 bucks to fill :D

Nightstalker
you sure there in not a hole in your fuel line.. 30km on half a tank!..

my cars been doing that since i got it!

wait.. thats like 12L/100km... thats not that bad! :)

Whitehatchback
I'm getting roughly about 400km per tank of gas on regular. Is that poor or is that not too bad.

SlowAzzPorsche911T
a typical 90's civic h/b should be getting 14ish km/L in good shape so I don't know how big the gas tank is... I get 12ish in the Aries.. if you're complaining get a honda hybrid  my porsche gets 10ish so be glad you don't drive that or a ford ltd hehe :D

Considering that's how much I get on an 85L tank I would say you're ok :)

VR666
I wish I could get 400km/tank. I only get about 250km. Suppose I should look at it, but I'm just too lazy -_-

redbaron303
That's not bad, i'd get between 400-500 on my turbo z on midgrade... I think that's about 55-60L though? $45.00/tank roughly. Don't you pay like 25-$30tank on reg?! If so, i'd say that's really good !

ManHunter
I get 475km in my Prelude. not too bad.

MH

Nightstalker
I get about 500 out of every tank in my 93' EG coupe... as long as I drive nice and don't waste gas going fast.. you should be getting at least 400 out of every tank on a civic.. as long as you don't have a supercharger or anything like that.

dogstar
i get about 500 km for 38 bucks of regular in a truck, so you folks driving little imports and aries should consider your selves lucky :P

if your gettin 30 km in half a tank (hoping you meant to say 300) then youve got a hole someplace, i dont think an engine that small can even flow that much gas through then injectors without flooding instantly.

Dirty_SOHC
My engine was basically flooded constantly. Lots of back firing during crusing, Had to rev it up at every light to keep it going. at the end of the 30 KM is right when my new plugs fouled completley and the car would start anymore.

Right now I'm running fine, after 2 hours dyno time. I'm getting about 400 Km on a full tank.

I'm also running 440cc injectors on a 1.6L SOHC
