Suggestion for Car <$10K - Click HERE for Original Thread

JIDTS
any suggestions on what to buy for $10k or less (suggestions on something a LITTLE over $10k is also good)
I want a car that is reliable and hopely fun to drive, and if the money allows, extra hp is also nice. I have no plans to mod the car in anyway.

I certainly dont want to spend too much time fixing car problems so reliability will be a big concern.

what are some of the candidates? help me out plz =) thanx

What are you interested in? Do you prefer an import or domestic? How many cylinders do you want? We can't read your mind man, you have to break it down some more to what YOU prefer.

JIDTS
ok let me see...it will be an import

well civic is the first thing that poped up in my mind...its fine if thats what the money gets..but i was just wondering if there is something sporty out there for the money. one big NONO is any cars that tend to have problems.

SO with reliability in mind, i THINK the car should probably be no more than 12yrs old and 150,000km. if you think a 15yr old car with 200,000km is still reliable then tell me what car it is and i will certainly consider it.

any suggestions are welcome. i just want to know whats out there for the money

You can buy a reliable Toyota for under $10 that's still good one gas, is nicely loaded, etc. Toyota's are strong and they hold up quite well. As far as that goes, you can look farther into Toyota and see what you like. Every company has their good cars and less good cars. In my opinion, Nissan makes one of the best cars out there. Civics are good on gas and from what I've seen roll into the shop, they are good cars if taken care of regardless of any stupid comments people make about Honda. Let us know what models besides the civic you were looking at.

ok a friend of mine told me about canadatrader.com and i did a run on it. these are some of the noncivicish cars i found. i tried toyota but most of their not-too-aged cars are rather expensive..except corollas and echos.

any comments on these cars

What about something different, like a Probe GT? They look nice, and offer a Mazda 2.5L (Since you insist on import) drivetrain....

Drop a 3SGTE in that bad boy later if your needs change and BAM!! :D

Go with the 4th gen prelude there. I have a 93 Sr and i love it. very reliable, nothings happened yet besides the clutch, but thats regular wear and tear. Its a fun car to drive too!

Fast fun to drive reliable?

I'm going to get this for my winter car. A friend of mine Suggested it and saw the reviews on it pretty nice plus AWD slightly above your price but worth it

because he said reliable :) My suggestion is any lexus. I personally would get an LS400 or its sportier cousin the sc400. Both offer luxury, decent power, and the best reliability in their respective classes.

night_font
id suggest you to get a 94-96 prelude...srv...very fast, fun, and reliable..for 11g's and under id say

i thought the soarer came with the 1jz-gtte and only the mark iv supra got the 2jz?

CJDP
yes the mrk 4 had the 2jz but so did the lexus sc400. And guess what, their legal in october  lexus as fast as a supra....cmon now what more could u ask for

DomesticDrifter
Later model soarers came with the 2jz-gtte, the models that are legal for import in october came with the 1jz-gtte. the 2jz was released in '93 and the same time as the mark iv supra.

The reliability comment was in reference to the poor reliability I hear DSMsare plagued with (not speaking from any personal experience so take this with a grain of salt).

In Japan there is no lexus, so you'd be buying a Toyota soarer, therefore making parts harder to come by and more expensive since the 1jz never made it stateside. Also, most of the soarers i've seen in Japanese auctions (when I was looking for one) lack standard lexus luxury features such as leather. A soarer should be just as reliable as an SC3/400, Toyota is known for their awesome reliability, lexus takes it up a notch to reflect their premium image.

If you want to consider importing a JDM car your options are increased. If you are looking for speed the JDM versions of most of the japanese cars sold here have more powerful engines, are cheaper, and ,generally, have lower KM/ are better taken car of. Plus there are many cars that were never sold here that fit into your criteria . However, you have to take into account the downsides; such as, part avaliability, the purchasing process, and rhd.
