I guess the $2 bulb would have been a lot cheaper & a lot less annoying than all the hassle of a police officer doing his job. Gee ... if the other bulb had went then you wouldn't have had any tail lights at all (that would have also meant a tow bill ...... ). What's so hard about walking around your vehicle every once & again to check little things like lights, tire pressure, parking lot dings you never knew you had etc? Why blame someone else for something you could have looked after w/ about 2 minutes of work.

With this post it's definitely ...

I hear you man, i was driving home from church on calgary trail once, then a freakin cop jumps out into the middle of the road ( I almost shit my pants, can you imagin if i didnt see him or was changing a cd?) Anyways, he flags me into a side street, here ther's about 5 cop cars and another 5 or so other suckers that had been caught like me. I wasnt speeding, it turned out he pulled me over for 1 broken headlight. There was like 5 other cars there with the same thing. It was like headlight day for them. I figured that he'd just give me a warning or something. Dumb ass gives me a ticket! That shit pisses me off too, makes you wonder what's going on when 10 cops set up on a cash grab sting operation, and people are getting stabbed to death in my neighborhood. Its things like that that make law abiding citizens become anti police. I can just imagine the thought process put towards dumb calls like that

"Hey george what do you want to do tonight?"

"LETS GO FIGHT CRIME, CLEAN UP THE STREETS AND PROTECT AND SERVE"

"Nah, lets go bust law abiding people for headlights"

"GOOD IDEA, I'LL GO ROUND UP 8 MORE GUYS, THIS WILL BE FUN"

Well it warms my heart to know that the police are working hard to keep our city safe from the dangerous LIGHT BULB BANDITS! I'll be able to sleep sound tonight, that is if my car alarm doesent go off again because somones trying to steal it FOR THE 3RD TIME!

Thats my rant, all apoligies to cops with brains

How about this. You guys put up a bulliten board advertisement saying

"check your lights"

And go stop the murder rate from rising in our city. Sound good, i think so.

not to take sides, but doing a "round the car check" is something that should be done everytime you take the car on the road

i know that's what i was taught when i did my AMA course.....but then again...i dont check my car everytime either *shrug*

As far as the murder rate ... there are special units for this type of crime. There are those of us who do have specific job junctions / duties and some of those are traffic members. Our job description includes enforcing and educating about the various provincial & federal driving laws.

As far as the bulletin board for telling people about their lights ... I'm sure the people that do check their lights & equipment regularly would get upset seeing thousands of dollars being spent cluttering our highways reminding people to do what is really just common sense.

This is one of those situations where it is left to the officer's discretion. The offence is there ... sure there's a number of options for enforcement. I'll tell a little story about a similar situation.

I stopped a driver for no tail lights on his truck. He complained that when he left the house they were all working & that I was just harassing him. When I lent him my flashlight to check out the situation I noticed a broken wire underneath the back bumper caked w/ mud on both ends. When he scraped off the mud & reconnected the wire ... low & behold the tail lights worked. He couldn't quite explain how six months of mud had gotten on the wires that had been hooked up less than an hour previous. He took his $34 ticket w/o any further comment.

My point is ... how is the officer supposed to know when the light burned out? It could have been an hour previous or six months.

Jimbo ;)

First of all there is a thing called spelling, it would be nice if people started using it properly. Second of all I'd be pissed off too if I got a ticket for one light bulb out but then I'd kick myself for either not knowing it was out or just being too lazy to change it. These forums are great IMO for venting on situations when dealing with the police but be reasonable. Sure the cop could've probably been serving the community better by being somewhere else rather than stopping you for such a minor infraction but the bottom line is that you knew the law and you broke the law and you have to face the reprocussions. I'm waiting for someone to say "I was driving my car with no taillights, one headlight, no seatbelt, purple signal, a full NOS system, and a loaded handgun in my belt and this dick cop pulls me over and gives me a ticket WTF!!!!!! don't they have anything better to do with their time blah blah quotas blah"
Just my .02

this is a public forum
not elementary English class

i'm sure you can make sense of what people are trying to say/type

if not, asking politely to restate/retype what they wrote would work better than un-necessary comments

nothing wrong with venting a bit.

You guys! It doesn't take a miracle just to change a bulb. It doesn't cost nowhere near the price of a Jackson's Racing Supercharger or some sort.

fart cans. still cant get over that *hahahahah*

I think the police should allocate their over-zealous traffic area of policing and well put them to better use in well robbery and crime prevention or ummm fraud investigation or some more beat cops looking out for people robbing convenience stores... someone who would run into a mac's at 2 a.m with a 9 m.m willing to kill the poor cashier for well maybe $200 max. is 100 times more dangerous then all those one-head lighted cars out there. OOOOOO look out they're gonna kill someone. But I also agree that some attention should be well brought to your car, check your lights once a week... I do and I mean most of us on here appreciate our cars a lot right? One headlight or a signal light out looks like shit ppl.. I go by a nice prelude with a brake light out and immediately think wow that guy doesn't take care of his car... If we get a flat we sure as hell fix it or polish out a scratch and well regular maintenance like lights and tire pressure should be just as important as your 1/4 mile time or the chicks you pick up cruising no? Or am I missing something

I agree.... Round the car checks should be done before you get into the car....

It can prevent you from driving on a flat/low air filled tire
Perhaps some punk from getting a laugh because he stuck something in your exhaust pipe...

And especially your lights!!! Sheesh, last winter, it was snowing, and I saw people at 11pm at night driving around without headlights.... or with both taillights burnt out.... It was bad, because I gave extra distance incase a quick stop was needed, without skidding.... But not only did I have to look what was going on infront of me, but I also had to look at what was going on infront of the driver ahead of me, since I couldnt tell if she was braking, or had her turn signal in.

I think all cars should have a kit in them, consisting of screw drivers.. a small flashlight, batteries, and especially spare light bulbs.

I have four spare taillight bulbs sitting in my glovebox, because my trunk leaks, and after a heavy rainstorm, I know the bulb wil be shorted out

A little prepardness goes a long way, not to mention saves money.

You know what.. I really must say I've never been hassled by cops.... Before my Porsche I drove a near mint 4-door white Jaguar on 16 inch 82 spoke chrome daytons... limo tinted all around... nice system... and I was 16 at the time.... 16 year-old driving this car..... The car screamed crack dealer :gay: Or so I was told by the local cop at the high school where I attended which will remain anonymous :D And anyways... I never once got pulled over for any reason in it, even zippin past a cop sometimes... I mean if I wasn't blatently speeding or "out of control" or anything then I never once got pulled over... no random checks or sir your tint is too dark... nothing like that. No weird random searches or police officers being over-zealous. Hell we were stopped at the Mac's in the west end chilling and the cops swung by to get a drink... they came out and saw us loitering and jokingly threatned to write us a ticket then he was like "gentleman are these cars" we said ya and he said holy shit you kids can afford nice rides nowadays and we chatted for a good 15 min... he looked in my car and at the tint and said this looks like tint and laughed about writing me a ticket for it, nice cops..so I'm thinking it's the car maybe and that brings the heat? I sold that to my dad and got the Porsche and same thing.. I'm 19 driving a nice porsche with a system... never get hassled... maybe umm don't rice out your car and drive nice and you won't get hassled and always be polite to a cop even if he calls you a mofo, say thank-you sir

it's a 1974 Porsche 911 Targa. in 74 they flared out the fenders and slapped a 2.7L in it. And no it's not a carrera edition :( those weren't made til umm the early 80's but my car still does mid 15's bone stock and for an antique (25+ yrs.) that's respectable. My Porsche is updated to give the appearance of a newer car.. roughly '85 with the rear turbo tail, updated Euro head lights, rear stop light and the "SC" package which wasn't introduced until 1978 I believe with the rubber guards on the flared fenders and some extra pep. An "SC" Targa is quite rare actually to find and I bought the car knowing it needed work and of course did things half-ass backwards. Instead of doing a full brake and suspension job I put a P.G QX900.1d class amp in it, some 15" lanzar dc pro comp. subs in a box, a Pioneer 300 watt 4 channel amp, a Sony MEX-5DI c.d player until that got jacked and so I slapped a mid-grade Pioneer "dolphin" deck. 4 PG speakers and 2 MB Quartz speakers, tinted the windows and did some interior work. I did this INSTEAD of fixing the paint belmishes, re-doing and up-dating the Porsche with cross-drilled 16" rotors and stainless steel brake lines, new calipers.. etc. Then updating it with brand new Bilstein shocks and new strut tower bar and other suspension work. Well I'm going to do that well probably June or something like that... then the "Souping" up comes later... I went to east Vancouver to buy it actually and then I came back and saw a '72 or so Turbo triple black mint for 20g's and I was kicking myself after.. I paid 16g's for my car and it was originally priced at 18g's before taxes.... The est. appraisal is 16 g's but I'm getting a full one done right now. Oh it's tinted too haha almost forgot and leaks a wee lil bit of oil BUT doesn't burn it hehe and the under-body is clean and rust free except for parts of the suspension hehe. All in time.... but hey if you're interested in a GOOD 911 I have some leads and can hook you up with the pres. of the porsche club of america cause he lives out in st. albert and talk to him about porsches... he'll tell you if you want a fast ass car with lots of potential... grab a 944 Turbo... it'll sing around a 911... if you're looking for looks... 911 hehe or a 911 Turbo ;) if you're really interested you could come take a look at mine sometime and I could hook you up with all the peeps you need to talk to lemme know

lol thats allot of info, i was loking at a couple of 944 turbos, cause they do scream, but dont look half as good at a 911. oh well, i guess ill just have to settle for a cheap mans porche if i ever get one lol ;) :)

dc2696
if u get one? what u gonna buy it with pocket lint.? :D

SlowAzzPorsche911T
LOL well if you are interested come take a look at mine and for the right price (14K firm) I'll let it go :o And don't knock the 944 haha the 924 is the poor man's porsche... go with a 928 if you like going 280 kph + :P A nice 928 S4 is more pricey then a 911 and the performance is there cause it's a front engine v8, take a look at a couple of them... nice after market body kits and parts but the 944 is the civic of the porsche family. I had leads on a '74 911 for 12 g's but it needed a lot of work

riceburner
no dean, its called financing lol, not pocket lint, anyway, i do like the 944, and yes, a couple of years ago my dad almost bought a 928 with the V8 for 8 grand, but he didnt quite have the cash!! but ive seen a couple of 944 in good shape for about 6 grand, but not turbo lol oh well.
