We'll, it's been almost 3 years since I've been in Alberta (moved from Ontario) and I have never had to deal with the police until last night. The funny thing is that I got pulled over on the back road to my house, probably a 1 minute drive to my door step.

RCMP ghost car was parked off the road, in the darkness with all lights off. I was approaching the city limits of legal within the speed limit. Pass the parked cruiser and not to my surprise he pulls out after me and turns on the cherries. As soon as he pulled out, I proceeded to pull over anyways, hahaha.

So, the officer approaches my door and requests my licence and registration, which I had all ready for him, and handed it to him. I don't even think he looked at it when he proceeds to depict all the things wrong with my car. Starts off with my new tinted headlights and works his way to my front turn signal bulbs, side bumper bulbs, driver/passenger window tint,. enlarged muffler, etc...

He then asks me to remove the headlight tint and window tint on the spot. I'm like, NO, I'll take a ticket please. He's like, you want a ticket. I'm like, Yep. Then he's like, how would like to have your car towed. I'm like, for what, having incorrect coloured bulbs and tinted headlights, that seems kind of extreme.

I take a deep breathe, calm down and begin to explain to him that it's a show car, that I drive it maybe twice a month, and that I'm going to a car show next weekend (little white lie). We bicker back and forth a bit of what's illegal and what's not, blah blah blah.

Bottom line, he gives me a warning. He says that if he sees my car again and I haven't changed the things that he indicated that he'll have my car towed.

What I don't understand is why did he have to be such a prick. Ya, I know some of the stuff is illegal and I'll definitely be removing the yellow tint from my headlights (heat magnet) but I was more than willing to except and pay for any tickets he wanted to hand out. Why does he have to get all tough and threaten me to have my car towed...

I just hope I don't run into him again. Weird, I've never seen any RCMP's hanging out in legal on a saturday night...

redbaron303
What you don't understand is why he was such a prick???

The answer to your question is simple... it's because he wishes he had a nice car and/or believes that he can torture people with nice cars through over use of his powers (thought withing his discretion to do so)..... The easiest way to answer why is with the cliche answer of "Because he can"!

Be lucky that he didn't tow the car being the super prick you depict him to be b/c that was within his powers too..... A warning is a great outcome for the hassle!

SE_blk Lude
that really sucks Darcy...some people just don't appreciate a very well done up car.Few different bulbs,Big deal!! And what's with the window tint, don't remember being too dark.

All in all, good thing "rookie" let you off with just warning.
I guess the day we all decide to drive Fuckin Crown Vics is day they'll leave us alone.

Before you decide to take anything off car Darcy,I'd like to take a few pics.

92_WhItE_H23
did u get his badge number??!?

if you gimme a few beer ill go take a dumb on his cruiser...

ehos
He was a 'prick' because he was doing his job?

Tinted windows, 'tinted' headlights, coloured headlights, oversized exhaust etc are all ticketable. You should be thankfull he didn't write you up a monster ticket, instead you're whining about your good luck? People have gotten MUCH worse tickets for doing much less.

you should know darcy and his car before you comment man.. first of all ive never seen him speed in my life...second he doesnt have an oversized exhaust.. his tint isnt dark, and the ONLY thing on his car that is illegal enough to pull him over is his headlight tint and its not even bad...the cop was CLEARLY being a dickhole.. who in this city DOESNT have clear turning signals.. the cop must not have gotten laid that night

mike3
are you serious ehos? Darcy clearly said that he expected to pay the ticket and was willing to do so. the cop was being a dick because he was trying to have his car towed when it wasn't a bi deal. Sounds like he was trying to act all tough.oh well, too bad you have to take off the yellow tint on your headlights, it looks pimp

1_Bar
I think the biggest deal was when you said that you'll take the ticket.....IMO your telling him what to do about his job is what caused him to be a dick. Never tell a cop what to do....I've had friends who had to remove their tint on the spot and get a nice fine.....

doughboy
I say next time you should pretend that you can't afford those tickets. Then the officer can walk away satisfied. He just wanted to dish out some pain and when you were happy to just pay the tickets, he stepped it up. The Po Po are sadistic... I should know, I play on a flag football team full of cops!

btw dude, NICE RIDE!

2ndgenlude
holy shit that sucks, especially the headlights, they look real good. when i was following you last night i couldn't believe how good your car looks when its moving. different prospective on it. either way i think it should be the owners descretion on whether to remove parts/tint or get a ticket. i mean what should the cop care, as long as your willing to pay for a ticket right? your e3xhaust is only like 3 inches, stock tips on my car were 2-2.5 inches each (dual) so if anything if you combine the stock tips you would have made the outlet smaller. not only that you wern;t speeding, so he had no reason to pull you over, besides the headlights. clearly he had a bad day, and you saying you would just take a ticket pissed him off because all of a sudden you told him what you wanted to do and he didn't feel superior any more. I can't see him towing your car over a exhaust and tint. if he did, and your house was a minute away, im pretty sure he would have gotten in shit, when he could have just escourted you home with no problems. would have wasted both your time.

Ya, I even called the RCMP detachment in St. Albert to inquire if what the officer was threatening me with was within his rights and they said yes. I guess it is of the discretion of the officer...

ehos, that is exactly what I wanted the officer to do was the write me a big ticket. I know that I was in the wrong and I was open and honest to the officer about it. I even asked him to write me the ticket because I really wasn't in the mood for a lecture. That's when he got all up in my face about towing my car. He probably knew since I have such a nice car that paying the ticket wouldn't be a problem and not much of a punishment. Towing my vehicle would have hurt because I know for a fact that the tow would probably cause other damage... He probably wanted to embarsse me by making me tear off my tint at the side of the road. I guess that's how they get their kicks...

I'll take some pic's of the car next weekend before I remove the headlight tint. As for everything else, it's staying on the car and I'll take the risk. I'm going to try and find amber bulbs to replace my superwhites so I can still have the cleared look. As for the tint, I like tint and it's staying on...

95IntegraRS
Don't take the tint of your headlights dude. Don't change a thing. Threatening you like that is just bullshit, and I wouldn't let some fucking pig on a powertrip push you around.

I think the tint on my headlights is what got me pulled over in the first place. If I remove it, then I should be less likely to get pulled over again. My only fear is getting my car towed for non-compliance...

redwall177
darcy just to say your headlight tint is better then anything i have seen cuz well when you drive behind someone you are not blinding them plus come on stock vehicles now have way to bright of headlights and i want to stop and smash them haha i know mine are bright too but i dont see how doing the tint is such a bad thing

Xx D-MAN xX
Matt, it's not a matter of them being less bright or that I can see much better on the highway at night, it's the fact that having coloured headlights, tinted headlight covers or even non-approved headlight bulbs are illegal.

I love the look of them but it's not worth getting hassled by the cops over...

redwall177
can you guys tell me what is LEGAL to buy and is ILLEGAL to use but i dont want anything to do with car stuff

Xx D-MAN xX
Dude, you talk in riddles. I have no idea what you are talking about...

Are you asking why is it legal to buy certain parts but it's illegal to have them on your car? Because the manufacturers can get away with it by stating "Off Road Use Only- Not Intended To Be Used On The Street". It's us tuners that slap this stuff on our cars to see if we can get away with using it on the street. In most cases, we won't...

redwall177
i am trying to make you use your brain when i write a post hahaha

darcy i know that there is stuff for cars that is legal to buy and illegal to use

i am asking is there anything out there that is legal to buy and illegal to use and has nothing to do with cars

mike3
How about a gun matt. there perfectly legal to buy, but can be illegal to use. God knows why you wanted to know this.

mike3
Darcy, just make up some dumb shit that you have yellow tint on your headlihts because to drive on the highway so much, and the yellow scares the deer off of the road, it doesn't make them freeze in the middle. its for the safety of you and the deer, haha

redwall177
i knew that mike but if you use it illegal it is hurt someone or something but it is not the gun that does the illegal part it is the human doing it like the saying guns dont kill people, people kill people darcys tint or lights or exhaust just like mine is not harming anyone so how can that be the same

mike3
ahhh i kinda see what you mean now....just took 3 posts, haha
yeah its stupid that its illegal, because it isn't doing any harm, but it is illegal and there isn't a whole lot we can do about it, thats life.

redwall177
BULLSHIT if we had enough ppl bitch at ralph and tell them to change the laws of apperance of your car and get enough ppl and companys to back it and get it in the news and stuff it would change the laws

if only life were so easy haha... they have these retarded rules ,btw they realise how retarded they are, just to keep down modding and the tuning scene.. they ahve no regulation on performance parts so the best they can do is make tuning as unenticing as possible..so they make stupid laws about stupid things so they can hassle us and just cause us not to want to tune anymore thus keeping our "performance" cars off the road..its just a away to inconvenience us

underdog 23
im doing a little bit of research about this kind of scenarios, and based on the stuff i hear, read, etc...it leads to one thing, and its all about the officer's discretion. and sometimes this people abuse their power because they can. the days of cops hanging out in a donut shop are long gone. they rather do something more pathethic like making our lives miserable or better yet organizing a stakeout on a poor journalist. lol

92_WhItE_H23
yep this cop discretion shit is BS..what makes them anymore capable of making these kinds of decisions then civilians other then the fact that they went and applied with the only required pre requisite of either having a 2 year diploma or 2 years of working full time..

ManHunter
Yep, that sucks. But if the law says a vehicule with tinted headlights (or any other of the stuff the cop mentioned) is illegal on the roads, then if the cop wants to go by the book, he can definitely tow the car. But that's being a prick I think...

They already do that in ontario. I think the rule of thumb is 3 finger wheel gap, any less and you get a ticket... I'm good regardless since I raised my car this year...

Shady_Pro
im not really gonna give a fuck about the police this summer as far as stupid tickets like that...i mean speeding and stunting is obvious but as far as apperance tickets i won't even be stressed if i get one cause i know im not gonna pay em so its just somthing your gonna have to deal with..and if u can't bare to deal with police maybe you should lock yourself in your basement and never come out... (general statment directed at no one)

Xx D-MAN xX
Tickets I can handle but having your car towed is a whole other matter...

they'll give you a ticket for incorrect beam pattern if your car isn't adjusted when you lower it....

92_WhItE_H23
so they cant if your beam is adjusteD?

1_Bar
yep, its like 15ft or something when the light should hit the road in front....
