Vancouver: Mild winters, mountains, ocean, pretty, restaurants, parks, close to the US but not in the US.
I just feel at home there. |

Exactly.
Vancouver/Lower Mainland is one of the few places that you can enjoy a vast variety of outdoor sports and it also offers a huge diversity of things that attract ppl of different lifestyles.
There are the mountains (summer & winter sports), the ocean, if you're a dog lover BC has been rated the most dog friendly province, it's a major entry/exit point if you enjoy travelling (no need for a domestic transfer cept maybe for Europe = TO), metropolitan city = shopping & access to all the latest trends, it's still Canadian (no need to adjust to culture & language...or Americans LOL j/k), close to the border, great weather, beautiful view, awesome food, ppl mind their own business (though they can be rude but small town syndrome is terrible too), etc etc.
If you want a "small town" feel then you can live in one of the surrounding cities and only find yourself a short drive away from big city amenities. |

In terms of setting up a life I'd definately pick Vancouver. I spent my first 6 years of life there and I still miss it.
But I would love to live in Japan for about a year. I've wanted to go there almost as long as I can remember.

Case-in-point: Trail! Man that's a nice little town! Such gorgeous scenery and The Cauldron...goddayum! Best pasta you'll ever taste! If you ever pass through there. Haul your ass over to that restaurant and pig out. It's glorious!

1) Just outside a medium sized town in the Scotish Highlands, or in a villiage in the Highlands.
