1/2 bridge porting - Click HERE for Original Thread

Has anyone tried doing a 1/2 bridge port?

In the RX-7 Performance Handbook the way they talk, they make it seem like it has the drivability of a street port with the high-end output of a bridge port, it seems "too good to be true" to me, if anyone knows anything that would be awesome.

"rx7 Handbook"???? I would like to see this book. personally i realize there are many opinions but if you need to drive this car more often them once a week DO NOT EVEN CONSIDER ANY FORM OF BRIDGE PORTING. this is one mans opinion. Conroy.

lol conroys coment.... yah when I had my motor rebuilt I wanted too go bridge port just because of how its made out too sound but the conroy convinced me not too so I cant tell you what its like but im enjoying my streetport its not too bad.

It's the book by Mike Ancas, apparantly it lowers the start of the powerband to 4000 RPM from 8000 - 10000 RPM of a typical bridgeport. It's the invention of Tripoint Engineering. They did talk about a bridgeport being exclusively for racing, but said that 1/2 bridge porting is still very drivable. Personally I think if this was the case there would be tons of people that have done this, but I still have yet to find one.

i built one as an expiriment a few years ago, so i am speaking from experience. ask yourself, how often am I at 4500rpms driving around on the street? well that is where your power will start. and in order to make good power with a rotory you need really free flow exhaust. even more important with a half bridge. read as "you will get alot of noise and big exhaust tip tickets." because for a big overlap engine to performe it has to be able to get that exhaust out and with free flow exhausts and bridge ported motors that means HUGE noise. so its not just a power band problem its also noise. PS they just are not GOOD srteet motors. they are powerful. but not very friendly to dirve in traffic. I have a rx7 with a t78 turbo kit on it right now and i "can" drive it on the street... but is it nice to drive ....NO is it fast....god yes. is it noisy....hell ya....will i get into trouble for driving it from the police. duh! so is a t78 turbo a streetable motor ...yes. but a poor choice for a street car. once again just my opinions.

I finally heard back from Tripoint Engineering & they agreed with Conroy's opinions. Basically they said that it is effective at lower RPMs than a full bridge port, but still say that it is not a very street drivable set-up. Furthermore they said they do not recommend any type of bridge porting on turbo motors.
