OK, so ya know how I had been posting about my transmission being, lets say... odd? Well the saga continues.
What do you get when the tranny, while under power, releases hard from second to third and the clutch pedal only returns 25~33% to normal position?
The release point is now the floor. Clutch on-Clutch off with only an inch of play.
Hummm....here is my latest guess as to why. My car hates me. I mean I think the throw bearing has let go in some way.
What ideas do you have? I'll post what I find as soon as I can get under the car.

i would guess the clutch master cylinder is in need of a rebuild, does it leak any?
if not that then maybe there is air in the line? its just like brakes. |

Had a similar scenario with my winter car. My troubles were all hydraulic, unless you have noise from the throwout bearing, I'd start with the clutch cylinders.

Well I did not get that chance to pull the transmission out last night, I will tonight. I did however remove the slave cylinder and fork. The slave looked like it was not returning to normal position. I have a used slave that I will compare movement with and I will still pull the transmission tonight.
I want to change the throw bearing, Fix the starter, and replace the seal on the back.
Oh, anybody have a wiring harness that they do not need. I need some connectors that I broke doing the swap.
Thanks,

Update:
I have everything disconnected from the tranny and all the housing bolts have been removed. Now I just have to find that magic pivot point where it will pull off the engine. At this time it is stuck on there pretty good. I have a jack under it but I can’t pull it off. Ideas? |

want a hand?
i would find a way to block the motor in one spot then you can wiggle it around to get the tranny off. only thing i can think of. hard to imagine the problem without seeing it. |

Thanks for the offer...but I had missed one bolt behind the starter bolts Under the heater hose. Doh!
I have it off got a new starter & put in the new throw bearing. I just need oil & to put it back on.
Umm...anybody know if there is to be any play in the throw bearing assembly? I Have a little and am not sure about it.
I should have this in by noon tomorrow.
Thanks for the Ideas. |

what do you mean by play, does i feel like the bearing ID is too big for the shaft? or the "arm" from the slave to the bearing? not sure what you mean.
to answer as best i can anyways, its not a precision assembly like a motor, so some play is fine. |

It seems ok then, just a liitle play when it is pulled by the fork.
Thanks again
EDIT Update: Thanks to the help of Glenn I now have a really smooth car.

OK, My last post in this thread was May 28, my birthday oddly enough, any way it has been an enjoyable month and a half with the ability to shift.
Well that time is over. Yes once again my tranny has chosen not to shift. I had put in the N/A LSD yesterday morning and had a chance to take the car out for a shake down run. It survived that well enough so I thought "hey lets run it" and off to the freeway I go.
A rush hour run down the whitemud then down Calgarty trail...what a waste of gas. Then I get this great idea, you know thats how it always starts, to cut accross Elersly rd out to the west end. Once again the traffic was a pain. Uppon entering south twilligar towne I had the chance to finnaly open it up a bit. Bam 1st gear, pound the clutch down again for second gear, mash the gas and pound the clutch pedal in again and ...WHAT! The bitch is stuck to the floor! AHHHH !!
FU(K! I'll be under my car....again |

It turns out to be part number 31231. The clutch release hub? find it here http://www.cygnusx1.net/supra/libra...410/3101_2.html
it seems to have sheared the ridge off that holds the C clip, that holds the thrust washer as the clutch fork pulled the preasure plate out off the disk.
ummm yeah....musta been my awsome power pounding the clutch down.
So this is just keeping the car true to $3 / KM or 3 hours service for 1 hour drive time. LOL
Oh well I neded to change the oil & do several other repairs while it is up on the pegs.
 |

So if you happened to catch my ever running thread about my tranny/clutch issues you would know that I needed to order parts.
Because i was just a few blocks away dropping off my grandson I decided to drop into Kingsway Toyota before making the drive accross town to Sun Toyota. I talked to Joe Wong and told him about the supra club and Ron's offer of discounts...whitout blinking Joe said he will meet or beat Ron's discounts. No proof rewquired. This will make it a little easier for members on the north side.
Sweet! My parts will be in Tuesday and I got 20% off
Thats all for now.
