Have any idea what they used in there? 5.7L... ummm about 340 c.i no? or right around there.. coulda made at least a 6.0L but killer looks, from the rear you could mistake it as maybe Ford's new Jag ideas and the front like a new cavalier Pontiac isn't the same since the T/A went away :(

REDX2NV
6SPD V8 with rwd=what they should have done with the gtp..nevertheless that thing is pimp! :P

BlueTurboEGG

It looks like they too the older style Integra lengthend the chassis and slapped an old GTP/Grand Am front clip!!!

mrprecidia
I was thinking integra too. mixed some other pontiac blaa

WookeysRX7
i can see the integra in that car but it looks more like a dodge avenger  How much power is that thing suppose to have?

1mns13
I'd prefer a Monaro body.

RallyCivic

I hate all teh new front end grills on the ponitacs now. They are all modelled after the solistice (sp?).... That grill is nasty.. I thinkt he current grill design on the gp's and the bonne's (SSEi) are the best looking design.

BlueTurboEGG
At the very least, it's RWD...

I doubt that, especially with drums in the back. I Dont think they'd underbreak that car like that, it probably has a v6.

djshortys
i coulda take it, damn, its a 2nd gen advenger

even more of a reason not too buy it. i will never own another domestic vehicle once my truck lease is over, thank god it was a 3yr. lease, and there is 1yr. left. it makes me appreciate my Integra and the other 3 civics i owned, that much more. Japscrap all the way!!!

more info and pics

" Under the hood is a specially tuned LS1 5.7-liter V-8 aluminum-block engine currently estimated at 340 horsepower @ 5200 rpm, 360 lbs.-ft. of torque at 4000 rpm with an appropriately tuned Pontiac exhaust note. While sharing the same basic engine configuration with the base-level Chevrolet Corvette, the LS1 engine in the GTO has been modified with a high-lift camshaft and increased airflow induction to create greaterhorsepower and low-end torque than the Holden Monaro to address the needs of U.S. drivers. "

" Stopping power is supplied by power-assisted four-wheel ventilated disc brakes with a standard four-channel anti-lock braking system. "

Production of the 2004 Pontiac GTO is scheduled to begin in September 2003 at Holden's Elizabeth plant. Up to 18,000 GTOs will be produced annually.

Nice, finally the car manufacturers are giving the public what they want "Unholy ammounts of power" I'm glad that we're finally getting good cars over here.

dogstar
yummy, sign me up in chrysler "salsa" orange, or black with tint on both, and some nicer wheels.

that things gonna be a bunch quicker than the camaro, if the numbers are to be belived.
raises one question im probably going to get flamed for asking in here... does this mean the camaro is coming back too??
if not, it would be mighty stupid of gm to kill off the trans am and camaro, then bring in the gto, which looks to be the same package (long nose, short trunk, big healthy v8, rear drive six speed.)

oh well, whatever, i like this concept.

Genki
not sure.. but some ppl said on the GP forum that the camaro will be back in 2006.

FYI i had my domestic for like 3.5 yrs now.. no major problems :)

And will i buy anohter one? you bet... why?? cuz jap cars are way over priced considering what kind of power and options u get. (well the ones ive looked at.. namely hondas and toyota's)

dogstar
my families owned almost all domestic vehicles, and some have touched 500 000 km, like my dads van, and my uncles truck.

im the exiled one for owning an import, but my dad thinks it looks cool, and he will be happy, so long as he gets to test drive it.

Genki
same here.

Actually all we ever had were domestics... first a dodge, then a ford.. then a pontiac. Now we all have ponitacs.. me, my sis and my dad still :D

Kind of strange.. not many asian families own domestics :P

silverSE
there is just no quality in my dodge, no finish, its a shitty vehicle. shoulda bought a toyota tundra, at least its worth something at the end. thats one thing domestics dont have, equity and resale. i payed $21,000 for my teg 2 yrs ago(new), and could easily sell it for $20,000. it almost appreciates. i wanna put a Calvin pissing on a dodge sign on my truck.

FingerPuppet
I agree

www.3rotor.com

Check that page out for one of the nicest Holden Monaro's in the world, basically the same platform as the new GTO.

P.S. Why do Oz and NZ get all the cool cars?

dogstar
i can totally see people doing ADM (aussie domestic market) front end clips on that GTO.

http://us1.webpublications.com.au/static/i...3/1381_14mg.jpg

that is a nice front end :)
and
chromy... dont worry, we get aussie cars... the caddy catera for one, well, its an opel actually, but they also sell em under the holden name, as the commodore, with an LT1 or LS1 and a six speed tranny under the hood.
and this GTO is a monaro with some different sheetmetal.

personally, my long term project is a catera with LS1 power. :)
and the caddy emblems + gold package + vinyl roof. :D
people will think its some slow ass old person car, then get stomped

That's actually the platform that they are building the GTO on, they are being built in the same plant as the Catera. Sadly the Catera is the only RWD Caddy out there, but with V6 power it's a little anemic.

I still find it baffling that Caddy built fwd cars with big block V8's in the late 60's and 70's, that just blows my mind.

i think theres a GM project car with a northwood v8 turned 90 degrees, but i cant remember where i read that.
now that would be a fun car, 300 odd horses with a 5 speed auto and RWD :)

apparently it was a bwm eater, same with the holden commodore 300s :D
