Ive been taking creatine, most recenltlyy in pill form (kre-Alkalyn), for almost a year now (on and off) and every time i go back on it I get acne all over my face. As soon as i go off it clears up. I am wondering if anyone else has experienced this? I've also had the odd stomach cramp, and am very thirsty; but I am told this is normal. I am a creatine responder and I do notice significant gains when I am taking it. I also like how it makes you look so much more pumped up; but alas, I value a clear face more. I am going all natural, at least for a while.
Please share your experiences with creatine, both positive and negative, thanks. |

I hope you are drinking a TONNE of water while on your creatine?
And most people consider creatine "natural" because it is found in food. |

yeah i try to drink 2+ litres of water while at the gym. If you don't drink alot of water it messes up your kidneys right?
I consider going natural not taking any supplements at all, just eating good healthy food. |

a year on an off? i hope you know that shit rots away your internals if u stay on the cycle for too long..
Negative: U are sopose to drink it with Grape Juice.. I cant even smell grape juice n e more, because creatine used to make me feel gross / bloated from all the water / grape juice i used to take..
My back also used to ache, on both side's, lower back..
I think that shits the devil.. Good for small amount of time.. Nothing to cycle on for years.. Maybe a few weeks, just to get some stamina up.. Then lay off it.. |

so does that mean taking testosterone is natural because its already found in your body????......... ........:D
I used to use creatine but I didnt like it. Yes i got bigger and strongerr taking it but I would bloat something fierce on it. I would look like a big water blister, so I stopped taking it.
The reason to take it with grape juice was because of the fructose. It is supposed to help with the affectiveness of the creatine. But its proven that isnt the best now to take it with. I cant remember which it is off the top of my head but its the sugar thats in celltech thats supposed to be the best carrier. |

Unfortunately, it is confusing.
Some people say even taking protein powder is "unnatural"...

Yeah - the fructose is good, but Maltodextrin is better because it replenishes glycogen stores faster than fructose....
And I think you can buy Maltodextrin where you purchase winemaking supplies. |

| lol.. i haven't been taking it for a year straight :) I just take it for 2-3 week periods when i've reached a plateau or if i just feel like taking it. The guy at GNC told me that the new kre-Alkalyn is supposed to be the best form of creatine because the body actually absorbs more of it and less of it turns into the bad form of creatine. It's also in pill form so it's conveniant for me. |

Already he's full of shit - the absorbtion of anything in pill form is always less than that of liquid form. So off the start you're paying more for the pills, and getting less out of it. |

| well here's the website for it As you can probably already tell I don't know much about sport nutrition :), i read some articles but am basically still in the dark. Is this kre-alkalyn what it's cracked up to be or is it just snake oil? thanks in advance. |

Uhmmmm not really.
Routes of administration are made for convenience but also for enhancing absorption. There are many examples of drugs that can't/shouldn't be made into solution.
WHen discussing absoption its a two fold discussion. Rate and extent. If something is absorved slow it does not mean that its not all absorbed....... it just takes a little longer.
But in regards to Creatine. Yup the stuff works. Powdered form is ideal and dissolved into a liquid form and should be completely drunk within 15 minutes.
The pill form could be usefull if you are planning on working out over an extended period of time. THe powdered form should not be left in solution for to long. THe pill form may give you less active creatine but it may give you enough when you are an hour into your work out and you cant go off and mix a fresh batch of creatine solution.
NOrmally works well for short burst of exersizes/training approximately 2 minutes is optimal. Not something that would prove usefull if cycling, cross country runners etc.....
The reason you have it along with grape fruit juice or frankly any hyper glycemic drink is to cause an insulin spike. This actually can enhance muscle uptake of creatine.
Don't mix creatine with citrus drinks......Its not stable and will break it down.
Don't over do the recommend doses.
Yes it is hard on your liver and kidney. Creatine has to be broken down to creatinine that is excreted via the kidney. Hence you need to ensure your fluid uptake is adequate while on it.
A bunch of the early studies I read suggested an increase in muscle fibers as a increase in the retention of water in the muscle cells (hence your bloating effect).
To the original poster. Creatine on its own should not cause acne break outs. It may be prudent to switch to another brand. I would also be looking at your caloric intake as well.
P.S and the roids will make you break out.........and everything else that comes with that. |

Creatine creates a byproduct called creatinine, which may
show up on medical tests. Creatinine is usually a sign of
kidney problems, but it is harmless as a side effect of
creatine supplements. In other words, this is a false positive
result."
theres alot on it.. when i went on it i asked my dr.. he said that it could produce kidney problems down the road if u use it alot.. |

You guys ever seen that episode of South Park "Beef Cake!"
My buddy was all hyped on the creatine and suppliments then it made him retain water so he looked like a fat fuck. He was pretty active in the middle of police training but still made him look funny.
I was considering using the creatine but my metabolism is fierce for example yesterday I ate a double 1/4 lb and a normal 1/4 and 2 cheeseburgers and fries from Mc Puke and Chucks for lunch.
You guys seen me at the meets right? I eat like this every day but look at me? Would creatine help me? Is it possable I burn off to many calories during the day? |

Most recent research seems to show that it's nothing to worry about.
The effect of creatine intake on renal function.
Pline KA, Smith CL.
OBJECTIVE: To examine the effect of creatine supplementation on renal function and estimates of creatinine clearance. DATA SOURCES: A MEDLINE search was conducted (1966-September 2004) using the key terms creatine, creatinine, kidney function tests, drug toxicity, and exercise. Relevant articles were cross-referenced to screen for additional information. DATA SYNTHESIS: Supplementation with creatine, an unregulated dietary substance, is increasingly common in young athletes. To date, few studies have evaluated the impact of creatine on renal function and estimates of creatinine clearance. Because creatine is converted to creatinine in the body, supplementation with large doses of creatine may falsely elevate creatinine concentrations. Five studies have reported measures of renal function after acute creatine ingestion and 4 after chronic ingestion. All of these studies were completed in young healthy populations. Following acute ingestion (4-5 days) of large amounts of creatine, creatinine concentrations increased slightly, but not to a clinically significant concentration. Creatinine is also only minimally affected by longer creatine supplementation (up to 5.6 y). CONCLUSIONS: Creatine supplementation minimally impacts creatinine concentrations and renal function in young healthy adults. Although creatinine concentrations may increase after long periods of creatine supplementation, the increase is extremely limited and unlikely to affect estimates of creatinine clearance and subsequent dosage adjustments. Further studies are required in the elderly and patients with renal insufficiency. |

Creatine is absorbed into muscle cells along with water. So you don't have to worry about fat cells getting bigger because of creatine. Though there are other reasons why people get fatter when they take supplements.
You know how your muscles look after working out? That's because they've absorbed water over your workout. Creatine supplementation has a similar effect.
Another thing to remember if you are taking creatine is that it is severly blunted by caffeine. |
