| hey everyone, ok well my car is the 83 supra and well i have the 4.10 rear end which make the highway rpms very high even in 5th gear...most likely when ill be driving on the highway/taking a trip somewhere ill be goin (120/130) the whole way, and those rpms are at (3400/3700rpm) of 6500rpm redline...and well my car has very high kms on it for 1 thing, 370,000plus km's and i want to keep the car/ENGINE so is it good to run it that high of rpms for the 2nd thing, and the 3rd, should i be doin that at all on that many kms of engine?thanks |

| use higher milage oil, or synthetic if your car doesn't leak or burn too much. the car should be fine running high rpm as long as your cooling system isn't wearing out, as long as the heat and oil pressure is good then the car should be fine. if rpm is an issue i do know where there is at least one 3.73 rear end. |

Adding synthetic to an engine with 370 000 k's:blink:
Doing 140 I'm reving 4100:( |
|

| to lower the revs you could go the speed limit:dunno: |

never know when the last rebuild was.
i've seen some higher mileage cars that don't leak too badly, mine doesn't leak barely anything unless i go on the highway, i'm thinking from higher heat. my only problem is my valve seals are starting to go.
EDIT: my car has 350+ on it too.
5th gear 120 is 3000 rpm :)
140 is 3500 :)
when i get the turbo this thing will be a mean highway car. |
|
|

| How is the turbo going to change the final drive? It will still be the same rpm at any given speed you will just have more power. |

, should i be doin that at all on that many kms of engine?thanks [/B][/QUOTE]
I'm guessing no-re-build...
Final drive?? He only saying that he will be boosting at highway speeds...Making it meaner. |

well i mean that at highway speeds i will be making a shit load of power with a turbo when i'm on it, making it very fast because of the different rear end i have, will easily be able to surpase 140 mph. Adding 70-90hp with a lot of it being above 3000 rpm where i need it will help a lot, my car has torque like mad but not as much top end.
Night Font has only had the car for a year or less i believe, the car may have had a rebuild or 2 previous to his owning it and he wasn't informed or something. If the rebuild was a long time ago then i would not recommend synthetic either, some minor leaks get worse too, thats why i said depending on what the leak is.
personally i use 10w30 with a toyota oil filter, if i leak or burn a little then i sometimes add that Gunk leak stopper and it seams to work well. |

hey guys, thanks for the imput...umm for owning the car..i had it for 2 months now...i gave it so far 1 oil change when i got it and been taking care of the engine as much as i can...i put in a much cooler thermostat....when it had the original one it was 195 F...and about 2 weeks ago i put in a 160 F thermostat...much cooler and better for engine with it being so hot, it was like 85% of the temp line, near redline and now its no more than 55% half, so on the highway i should be great for temp wise...and oil, it doesnt leak anything so im not concerned about that, but it does puff out a bit of smoke on start up...but who cares...
EDIT: for oil i use 10W-30 castrol ...and next oil change ill put in 20W-50...much thicker |

I used to think you were cool Supradevil...Just kidding.
But Gunk!!! What's the matter? That stuff is like cholestoral for your car.
I don't really know shit about cars night font, but I believe you should try to figure out your cooling problem. Something is seriously wrong if a 160 Thermostat is what it takes to keep your car temp normal.
Correct me if I'm wrong guys but isn't it a bad idea to run your car too cold... Sounds to me like your cooling system is stuffed, or maybe your sender or your gauge.
Try taking a peak in between your rad and ac condensor, mine sure enough had leaves and all sorts of fuzz blocking air flow.
Our maybe your cooling system is stuffed because a previous owner had a coolant leak so he decided to add some "Gunk" to remedy the problem:lol: |

with a 160 thermostat your rings are going to hate you, our rings are ment to run at 180, 180 is the lowest i would ever recommend anyways for our climate due to that thing called winter. Redline Water Wetter works good for keeping temps down a couple degrees.
As far as the Gunk Sentara i know using any of those aren't the greatest solution but at least Gunk is one of the "better" brands for that stuff. i haven't had that problem in a while though, theboil has been really good with only the city driving lately, no highway. |

sorry about the car? mine? Night Fonts?
i had mine off the road for a few days replacing the diff seals but thats all, Daves 87 is the one that we were hit in if thats what you mean. |

| hah..but i dont like it haveing the temp so high...when its at 55-60% its all good...thats what i see like every ways i get into these days...never seen a car that high in my life...so i changed it...whats the worst that car happen??? |

premature wear of cylinders walls and rings come to mind.
recomended thermostat is 187-194 degree's for a reason, your old one may have been faulty, your guage could be inaccurate, their could be crap stuck between the rad and a/c condensor. i would recommend putting a 180 thermostat in at the least.
i have heard it time and time again on CelicaSupra.Com, and from mechanics, my haynes says to use 187-192 only. |

Sure rub it in....6th gear! Bah! :D
So what is a 183 CI?
I am just going to guess it's the 3 litre motor in your Supra.
I coulden't tell ya my highway RPM as it has not run that slow in a long time. (or is that at all?) |

| well i want a 6-speed and i'll have one in my mk2 some day. then i'll show you  |
