I went to go and see the sneek preview of the longest yard (funniest movie i have seen in a while), but to get in everyone almost had to go through a strip search. They had out metal detectors, they were searching any bags that anyone brought in. They made you hand over your cell phones if they had cameras even if it was only a still picture one. Then in the movie they had a few guys out with night vision goggles to watch the crowd. All that just to stop piracy ...... it is almost as bad as trying to get on an airplane, for what stop ppl from getting a pirated copy 2 days earlier than when it comes out since i am sure that they won't do that the whole time the movie is playing, and i am sure that there are already so many pirated copys out there it wouldn't change much.
Just had to vent and also warn everyone if you are going to a sneek preview of a movie leave your cell phones in your car or something unless you want to wait in line after the movie to get it back, also if they happen to lose your cell phone while u are in the movie u are shit out of luck beucase they make you sign a waiver before they take it.

That bit about the cell phone blows.

I'd hate to give my camera phone to someone to hold, because every once in awhile I'm sure they lose one/give it to the wrong person.

energie
wow, that does suck.

SilverNeonRacer
I'd tell them to shove it and give me my money back and walk out. Due to family medical reasons I can't be without my phone, even when I bounce at the bar, the phone is near by and i check it regularily.. when working at the university, it's on silent and I check it when it vibes.

And no way would I let them strip search me.. empty my pockets.. maybe, see whats in a purse sure.. anything passed that and they better have a warrant.

youngbex
yea, i dont trust those people

ChromeDragon
Do they not realize that they majority of the time it's employees that set cameras up in the projection room after hours?

night_font
shit..thats insane...were the people checking you like cops or security people?

Flex
Its funny about the pirated copies.....they are shit anyways. A guy at work here gets them all the time and they are always terrible. The one he had right in the middle of the movie someone bumped the camera and you only got half the screen for about 10 mins....then they finally realized it and moved the camera back in place.

I would rather pay the 20 bucks and buy the movie and have a decent copy of it. I enjoy movies for the quality of the picture on a good home theatre....not just the fact of being able to watch the movie for free.

I've had that big search at concerts before but never at a movie.

Orzel
Holy Shit! Nightvision Goggles???

That would freak me right the fuck out, If i was eating my Jumbo box of junior caramels watching a movie and then some movie clerk in combat gear starts walking through the aisles....like whats next them coming down on zip lines from the ceiling OR asking you for a passport and identification in the middle of the film...yeesh.

I'd like to see someone try and search/take my shit when I want to go see a movie.

They have the right to refund your ticket (In this case I'd assume he got them for free, so he'd get nothing) and refuse you entrance.

wubba_65
If they did that I'd just whip out my 8 (mm) and say "I'm a pirate, and yee've got me plunder in der, Agrrrrrrrrrhhhhhh, Step aside, step aside"

Then when they were sitting there in complete shock I would sneak in.

Or else make it really obvious and walk in with the 80's style camcorder resting on your shoulder and a film/sound crew following behind with all the equipment.

I wonder if they would take palm pilots/iPaqs and such away too, they have cameras... but no way would I hand over my phone, I just bought it for $400, and plams and such can be $300-$1300 depending on options. I definatly wouldn't sign a waiver.

BTW what theatre was this? Silvercity?

sparkycivic
nazi theatre cops. moon the guy with the goggles, and see how long he hangs around. better yet, get the goggle guy wiht your LED keychain. that'll learn him .

ColinSiR
yah what theatre was this?? i should set something up to where i give them a fucked up smashed phone, and when they try and give it back to me ill phone TROUBLESHOOTERS or even just the news, cause that would stir shit up i bet.

JoeBlow
I know i couldn't believe it, it was just 5-6 security guys (not cops) at the door, then 2 walking around with the googles. It took them sooooo long to get the line through that they started bringing ppl in 30 mins early and the movie started almost 45 mins late. As you guys say the pirated copys are all crap anyway other than maybe ones that get out from the production line of the movie, saw a screening copy of the first lotr just as it came out that came from someone working at newline. So in the end why bother most ppl i know wouldn't even bother watching something that bad of quality and by the sounds of it most ppl are like that. :dunno:
