How much do you tip the hairdresser? - Click HERE for Original Thread

Jord@n
Reflux's thread brewed this one. Just out of curiousity how much do you tip your hairdresser/barber? Does it depend on the cost of the cut? Or if it's a cute guy/gal?

Personally I usually tip 2$ cause I feel bad being a cheap ass. I spend about 15 bucks/cut.

Keith303
2-4, if their hot then 5

Flex
The girl that cuts my hair, its her own chair so I dont tip her anything. Its $20 bucks for a cut so if she wants $22 or what not just charge me that.

Tipping in my books is retarted....not because Im a cheap ass, cause Im not but why do some jobs get tips and others dont. when I used to pump gas I never got tipped, or when I worked at greyhound packing luggage out to cars or packing groceries out to cars a safeway I never got tipped. So why do waitresses and hair stylists get tipped?

Keith303
furniture deliverers get tipped way less of the time then pizza guys. hows that make sense?

Because they get paid more/hour. I think the basis of tipping someone is they make very little money, and they are usually in a job where they need the extra money. Ie. Waitree, Delivery, Haircutter.

REFLUX
20%

but I'm starting to give up on hair dressers....maybe just have my gf do my hair
if she screws up, a good excuse to shave it :D

I work security at a bar, bouncers get paid more than servers, cause servers can earn tips, we don't. BAsically if we find money on the floor at the end of the night, if we wanna bend down and get it, it's ours. Servers get like $6 - $6.50/hr, bouncers get $7-$9, depending on how long they've been there.

If it's a job where they get paid more cause traditionally they don't get tips, then I don't feel bad not tipping. But if a waitress or what ever works her ass off and I get bad service cause of a kitchen screw up, I'm not going to penalize the waitress, I'll make a complaint about the kitchen.

Hair stylers.. it depends.. here it's like $12.xx for a cut, so I normally make it an even $15, and they seem a little shocked I'm leaving a tip... mind you I normally just get buzz cuts anyhow.

I disagree.

A tip is for the whole experience - this is made even more so because waitresses are forced to share their tips with the kitchen staff/bus/managers/etc.... at most restaurants.

And further, some waitresses will actually tip out extra to get their tables better service.

So yes - the waitress is accountable for your meal. If your burger is burnt, it shouldn't even make it to your table.

oldraven
3$ when I got mine chopped yesterday.

And you tip your waitress if she gives good service. If the kitchen fucks up, or the beer on tap costs $6.50 (damn you Celidhs! I know Kilkenny costs me $3.00/pnt at the liquor sore, why does it cost more than double when you have a damn KEG of the stuff?) then I complain about the cost or the kitchen screw up, but she still gets her tip.

Of course, if she's a bitch, she gets nothing.

Billy
Usually $5. Mainly because the cut is $14.98 and I usually just give them a 20 and walk away. After about 5-6 cuts from the same hairdresser they usually remember you and start giving you special privileges. Ex. Free wash, bumped to the front of the line, free demo stuff.... But maybe it's also cause I'm a nice guy and they're just trying to earn a living and getting shitty pay.

At the bar I work at, it's a full service hotel with a lounge and resturant, the tipout is 1% of the daily sales, so if the resturant makes $1000 that day, $10 goes to Kitchen staff. And you get your tipouts every 2 weeks.

Somewhat similar situation, if I provide the bartender with really good service(I'm a porter(aka Bar bitch)/bouncer when need be) depending ont he bartender sometimes they'll tip me out extra, depending on how much tips they make.

The problem is people are having to rely on tips, I mean here the bartenders fight over Friday night shifts cause on a good friday(keep in mind small town and the bars has a capacity of 164) they can walk out with $300-$600 in tips. And they work the whole month just to get 1 Friday shift.

clapbak
Depends WHat i get done..

Keith303

red92
way i think of it is, 18 bucks for a pizza, i'll give the guy 2 bucks, or whatever....

energie

Easy lilweiner,

I always tip $3.00. I do not do the math before hand, I like to calculate it after. I run numbers for a living. I'm a banker. It is nice to see you have a more precise way of deriving your tip.

Have a nice day.

Nice Guy Eddie: C'mon, throw in a buck!
Mr. Pink: Uh-uh, I don't tip.
Nice Guy Eddie: You don't tip?
Mr. Pink: Nah, I don't believe in it.
Nice Guy Eddie: You don't believe in tipping?
Mr. Blue: You know what these chicks make? They make shit.
Mr. Pink: Don't give me that. She don't make enough money that she can quit.
Nice Guy Eddie: I don't even know a fucking Jew who'd have the balls to say that. Let me get this straight: you don't ever tip?
Mr. Pink: I don't tip because society says I have to. All right, if someone deserves a tip, if they really put forth an effort, I'll give them something a little something extra. But this tipping automatically, it's for the birds. As far as I'm concerned, they're just doing their job.
Mr. Blue: Hey, our girl was nice.
Mr. Pink: She was okay. She wasn't anything special.
Mr. Blue: What's special? Take you in the back and suck your dick?
Nice Guy Eddie: I'd go over twelve percent for that.

SilverNeonRacer
A lot of ppl in the service Industry where pissed at the big internationa; even a couple years back.. cause all the european ppl are used to the tip being included in the cost so they didn't tip anything.

lilweiner

Ha ha ha, I suppose I should specify incase it is taken the worng way. I calculate not run numbers. ha ha ha. I normally put down a fixed dollar amount, but if I am stuck I usually do twice the GST plus a little.

Thats a damn good cover up lad. Dont worry your little secret will never get to revenue canada. pfft those idiots wouldnt know what to do with it anywayz. i mean you could be a manager of a bank, steal millions, have like 5 houses, a whole shit load of sweet cars, a bunch of "girlfriends" and the government could seize it all and still only get an 1/8 of what you actully stole, back.. thats canada for ya.

lilweiner
while were on the topic of tippin.. you know what is sad though, i used to have this friend and... well i think he was a fag anyways, but everytime we'd go to the bar, he'd get like one beer and give the waitress a 20, and tell her to keep the change... or once we were at boston pizza, and he gave the waitress a 100 tip... poor guy he possibly could have got laid, cept he was ugly and had the voice of a 12yr old boy who just got his balls bit off by michael jackson.
