Tip Furniture deliveries? - Click HERE for Original Thread

Keith303
Inlight of the other 2 tip threads I was wondering what you guys think.

So I deliver Furniture and what I realized is that people are 99% more likely to tip pizza deliveries then furniture deliveries.

I mean really, aguy pulls up and drops off a 3lb box to your door, where as, I at times would have to lug a 400lbs armoure up winding stairs damnear killing meself doing it. And at the same time having to watch out not to scratch walls or break there shit.

Or having to move peoples existing furniture out of the way because they were to lazy todo it before we come.

I understand the fact that furniture costs big bux unlike pizza but wtf, if you can shell out $1000's for furniture, is a tip to much to ask?

We do get tips, maybe 1-2 tips for every 25-35 deliveries we do, sometimes it's better but not usually. I know its my job but people just think were their servant while we are there and we do extra shit and the fucking people dont have to decency to be appreciative.

I find that middle class people tip the most/best. Rich people with $300 000-$1 000 000 homes never tip fuck all. Tips are usually around $10-20 each, (theres 2 of us) and sometimes for moving a simple sofa or T.V we get $50 each for about 2 mins of work (rare accourance)

So thats my rant, im interested on other peoples views on this.

People tip Waitresses, Delivery People, Haircutters, and the like because those are low paying dead end jobs and they usually need every penny they can get. On top of that they tip based on the service provided. I'm not saying your job isn't hard, or tip worthy, but I am sure you make more than a waitress or delivery guy.

[rant] I want tips too! :dunno: [/rant]

If all you do is deliver the furniture/set it up then I wouldn't tip you.

If I needed your help to rearrange my living room, then I think it's fair to tip you.

REFLUX
I would tip them.

For sure more work involved moving furniture around than doing pizza deliveries.

I usually offer furniture guys a beer.

I have never tipped anyone delivering furniture or other large items to my place, and to tell you the truth I have never thought about it either.

However, I always offer a cold drink (bottled water or pop usually) to anyone working hard to deliver something to me.

Besides that, I don't really think they deserve tips. I imagine they get an average wage, not like when I worked at Little Ceasars and we got $2 per delivery (often worked out to less than minimum wage). Besides, most places charge about 50 bucks for delivery.

I dont expect tips for every delivery, allthough that would be nice.

Its times when we do extra stuff for the customer like more their existing furniture through their house to another room, which isnt part of our main job.

That to me is tip worthey but doesnt usually turn out that way.

i tought ski lessons for 3 years i think i only got 4 tips the whole time and msot of the time it was for parents of lil kids i tought . they would always slip it to me in a hand shake and i was all suprised . bigges tip to date was 100 bucks fresh crisp bill. guy was some learder for some corparation in south africa and it was the first time his kids seen snow. :)

the problem is that the items are already payed for...

remember the origin of tipping was when someone brings you something, and you pay them for it then and there. Say it's $17, you give them $20, and because you like them, you let them "keep the change"
or if you don't... you don't :)

anyhoo, the problem for you, even though i get your point, is that most the things you deliver are already payed for, AND prolly a hell of a lot more expesive then pizza... right?

i don't know about you, but when i just bought a new TV or somethign at it was $1500, i'd be pretty broke by that point, and i'd be needing that "tip" to go get movies to watch on it :P

truekaos
my opnion is........people get paid to work...why do you deserve a tip and i dont??

my work is more skilled and specialized...but i dont get extra for a job well done...

so why does a guy delivering something get tipped...i still tip but i think its crap

Jord@n
Like Mustard said. They have to pay cash for deliveries of food, so they don't care about 2 bucks here/there if they have a 20 they just wont bother getting more. And they feel bad not tipping because it's tradition.:dunno:

Tradition doesn't always make sense...
