Get something with an Optical Zoom(3 and over).. a pure digital zoom camera will get blurry as soon as u start zooming(blocky).. Something will a balance of the both is the best..

Something with an SD (secure digital card) why? cuz they are cheap and go on sale alot..

other then that.. 3+ mp is good too.. n e thing higher then 3 u wont notice a gain in imagine quality enless u are blowing them up to 10000000000000x3000000000000000 lol...

Hps make some good cameras..(for the price)

Here's my pick for 200 bucks. Canon A400

Clapback made some good points, optical zoom is a must have and 3mp is good for the average point&shoot user. Avoid cameras that use xD memory cards because they are really expensive. Look for cameras that use AA's.

Remember that after you get the camera you still need to get a larger memory card. If you intend to use it often a set of batteries & charger will be handy. And if it does not come with one, a case is a good idea too.

Check out Superstore. They have a copon for a $30 discount if you spend $250, it comes once a month.

Actually, compact flash are the cheapest memory cards. You can pick up 512mb cards for $50 now. That's a far cry from when I bought my first 128mb for $150 three years ago.
