AUTOMAXX (CHRIS THIN) CALGARY CLASSIC CAR DEALER SCAM! FRAUD! THEFT!
so heres how the scam works.i called on a 67camaro that automaxx in calgary alberta canada had listed in the canadain auto trader.it was a 67 camaro rs advertized as a restored numbers matching car for $28900 in there full page at on page b23 of the may issue of the classic and antique auto trader.when i called in the early afternoon on a saturday i was given to a chris thin.he represted that he was the owner and dealer principle of the lot.he proceeded to talk up the car and it sounded like a good deal all numbers rust free etc etc.he then said the i should come and view the car as another person was coming in monday and was going to buy it.i decided to get it my car and drive the 3 hours to look at it after chris thin said he would wait for me as the dealership closed at 6 pm.when i arrived at the lot he was the only one there sitting in his hummer waiting for me.average sized skinny guy and baulding.he showed me the car briefly and it looked o.k. but he said the lot was closed and he didnt have much time.so i said i would come back monday after work and look further at the car and most likely buy it.chris thin then said i should give him a deposite as he would not hold the car until i get back.i offered a check he said no.then my credit card he said everything is locked up that i would have to give him cash.so he followed me to a bank machine down the street and i gave him $1000 cash to hold the car.he said he couldnt give me a receipt as everything was locked up.i left and drove home.after work on monday i drove back the 3 hours and looked at the car.upon close examination i could see that the car full of body fill and that the vin number didnt match the production number on the trim tag.looking at the trim tag i could also see that it had been removed from the car.also that the engine block was not original at all.after looking more at the car i could also see that it wasnt even a original rs and the front fenders had been modified to accept the rs grille etc.a salesmen walked up to me and i told him all of this his responce was and i quote"yeah all the classic cars he buys are junk i hate trying to sell them but he keeps bringing them in"i asked him if he would go get mr thin and he did.while i waited for chris thin i had a look at some of the other cars on his lot that he had advertized.all of them were very poor at best with $200 maaco paint jobs and he even has a plastic cobra kit car with a 350 chev motor in it.this car advertized as having 450h.p. to the rear wheel.i highly doubt that it had anymore than 200h.p. under the hood.when chris thin finally decided to come out side and meet me.then i told him that all his car we rebuilt garbage and i wanted my deposite back.he then denied that i even had given him one and told me to get the f--k off his lot.he became very violent and so i thought it better to leave.i tried to get ahold of him over the next few days but of course he would return my calls.later i find out that he doesnt own the lot that it is owned by varsity chrysler in calgary and further a fellow by the name of gord moors.i left three messages for gord moors none of them returning.after all of this i went to the police and told them the story.turns out that automaxx has been under investigation over the past year for selling stolen cars that have been re vined(new serial numbers put on)and that chris thin is well known to them as he is a part of the auto theft ring.he also is under investigation for defrauding people that have cars consigned with automaxx.from what i understand he would sell the cars for the people then doctor the bills of sale that he gave to the consignors and pocket proceeds from the sales of the cars.there was more about chris thins that i was told but nothing related to automaxx.beware of this dealship and i hope no one else gets ripped off. IF THERE IS ANYONE ELSE OUT THERE EMAIL ME AT timadams55@hotmail.com |

Pity that you took the time to write all of that and it is incomprehensible.
Go back and edit it. Make sentances and paragraphs. |

58 impala,
Sorry to hear about this problem. I don't know why so many in the auto industry seem to have a "cola" problem.
Not to be a Dick but most people who are old enough to be buying a grad car for their kid should know if there is no paper there is no cash. ( I now have 3 kids over 20).
I personally think that there is nothing you can do. Telling people about the dealership wont help because he will just move to another one and continue with the sh*t. But if the dealership is under investigation then I guess there is some justification. Of course if there was some sort of sting operation in place, this might have "blown the cover".
I see you have just joined up and have 4 posts. I am guessing that you may have an 58 impala? It might be red & white? Could be blue? If you get the chance, post up some pictures of your car, Impala's are legendary.
Sorry about the long post.

| That's really awful, I just don't understand why anyone would give somebody a deposit and not get a receipt, no matter what they said. That's good that you have posted this though, have you posted on many other local forums? |

| Didn' t your spidey sense go off when he wanted a CASH deposit? and would not give you a recipt? Deposit's never benefit the buyer. It's usually a trick by the seller. |

DUDE...that sux man I hate hearing about this shit makes me mad.
I have to admit I once got ripped off in a similar fashion long long ago.
But you only need to loose money of that amount once and it takes awhile for you to get over it and you will, but this is what I learned from it.
SHINNY THINGS MAKE YOU STUPID avoid falling into the trap of desire and keep smart about it and keep the glitter outta your eyes.
I love this line...it's one of the oldest sales lines.....(Well there’s someone else coming to look at it later too) BANG in the back of your brain your subconscious tells you that you must beat that who eva and go see it first, If your eger enough you will go ...haha.
As far as deposits go....and this may seem a bit harsh and well they can go fuck themselves and WAIT, NO there not going to sell the car in the time it takes you to goto a bank and get a certified cheque, NO the don't need money to start the paper work.
The only time money should be exchanged is when you actually are going to pick it up and be it the same day.
In most cases a car that there pressuring you on and saying that other buyers are looking at is not true at all.....the car will be there next week but with more dust on it.
Under certain circumstances you may have to put a deposit but no more than 200bux, If they protest just remind them that if they are serious about making a deal that they will take it ...if not walk away..its hard but if they are serious they will make a compromise with you and never be afraid to let it be known that you will not tolerate any B.S or fucking around cause it is your money and if they want it they will make a deal YOUR WAY.
I know it makes you look like a bit of a asshole costumer but you deserve to be IT'S YOUR MONEY.....sorry this is a bit of a rant but I worker at several dealers over 5 years and hauled cars too and I have seen many many many people get ripped off and I feel some how obligated to educate.
K this is for everyone here....if you want to buy a car from a dealer but feel a bit over whelmed with the pressure from sales people or just a bit to uninformed about how the process work's and could use a level or aggressive view I am more than willing to help with advice or even meet up with you and goto a dealer.
You can PM me....... seriously I love going to dealerships and making them sweat cause I know just what to ask.
EDITED cause of strange phone calls from aliens! |

for everyones info, a receipt can be made on a tissue paper if you want. all it has to say is the amount, what for and have the name and signature of the reciever of the deposit.
same with bill of sales for buying cars. |

I would not normaly bring back older posts like this but a Mr.Cris thin called me and left me a MSG on my phone so I did my best to type it out word for word.
(Hi there I am Cris thin GM of auto max automotive and I noticed you put a posting on the web site with regards to conversations with a 58 impala a JR member, I would like to inform you that the JR member is posting fraudulent information because he is involved in a civle lilagation for $50,000 worth of money that he steals from people on a daily basis.
His name is Kirt pomalo if there is any doubts about it you can contact my lawyer who will inform as to the posting that Mr.pomalo is putting on the internet and the defamation of character and liable suite that is coming against him immediately, If you have any questions you can reach me at Automax automotive I have no problems meeting with anybody explaining how our operation works and how many cars we sell a year.
We are owned and affiliated by a dealership varsity Chrysler and I can assure you when we do 30 million dollars of sales a year we do not rip people off on a daily basis of any kind you can reach me at 250-5541 area code 403 to discuss the matter anytime.)
Hmmmm very Interesting I think....dam it's hard to type that fast and I left out a bit were he kinda repeated himself and mumble a bit about the JR member part other than that...there it is...sorry to bring up old posts. |

I wonder if that Liable suit is just a scare tactic or if he would really go through with it. I don't know enough about those laws to even guess.
I don't really think the fact that the car dealership he works for sells a large amount of cars prevents one of their employees from ripping off potential customers. |

Ummm doesn't that happen in our city too with another local shop?!:dunno:
But a common joe like me wouldn't know the difference and would have bought the car thinking it was as advertised... thank you for the heads up I've never give a deposit to anyone without getting a reciept or proof unless i know them really well and we have a sense of trust between each other. I'm sorry to say that it will be a while before you get your money back.. or if you get it.. |
