| Whats the deal with these guys? Last June I went in there to order a spare donut, phoned multiple times and still havent heard from them to this day. A freakin year. Lately I read that there was a recall out for all 2g eclipses with a build date range of 19940301 - 19990630. I phone the service department yesterday and ask them if they can verify this for me. The person takes down my information and my VIN and says she will get back to me as soon as she looks it up. I wait a day plus 4 hours and no call. I phone back and get the same person and ask her about it and she has no idea what I'm talking about. She puts me through to someone named Ashley who asks for the VIN. I gave her it and she said theres nothing and was ready to hang up before I notified her that there was this recall out there. She basically lips me off saying since its not on her screen I'm full of shit. I tell her to check again as this is a potentially serious matter and request if she can look this up by make and model, she punches a couple keys and rudely says no, so I left it at that. I don't have any confidence with them not even being aware of this recall, hopefully they were right and there isnt one for mine. Thats 3 horrible experiences, I wont be recommending them. I am insulted and I will avoid dealing with these fucks at all cost. |

| Dumb thought - but since Mitsu Canada never sold the car, would the Mitsu recalls even be in their system (As some recalls are country specific)? |

| I thought of that too, but you would think a Mitsubishi dealer, any dealer with a service department, would be able to find this information or would adleast go a bit out of their way to deal with the matter. Assuming they don't have this information on their systems, I'm sure they have a way better chance of dealing with Mitsubishi in the US than I do as a single person. You would also hope that if they are working in the service department that they would know the difference between a 2nd and 3rd generation eclipse and know that the 2nd werent made/sold here. You would hope. *shudder* |

He already got a spare form me.:D As for Westside Mistubishi I have not really had any major problems, I ordered some parts for my 2.4L (timing belt, cam gears,...) and they just took a little longer then the told me, but other than that no problems. What is this recall? |

I bought my car from westside and everytime I have a problem with it they fix it RIGHT NOW no problems always get a loaner car and my car is ready when they say it will be ready. Now I understand that maybe it's because I bought the car there and such but I dunno I always had good service. As for the girl at the service counter she is as dumb as a brick. She is your typical blonde. Assuming that is the one you were talking to. Next time you phone I would suggest asking for Norm. He is the service manager there and with my experience he will help you out I am sure great guy.

DSM, here is the info, I'm surprised you havent seen it on DSMtuners yet:
Make : MITSUBISHI Model : ECLIPSE Year : 1995
Manufacturer : MITSUBISHI AMERICA
NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID Number : 00V421001 Recall Date : DEC 15, 2000
Component: SUSPENSION:FRONT:CONTROL ARM:LOWER BALL JOINT
Potential Number Of Units Affected : 567432
Summary:
VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: PASSENGER VEHICLES. IF THE RUBBER BOOTS ON THE LOWER LATERAL ARM BALL JOINTS OF THE FRONT SUSPENSION WERE DAMAGED DURING ASSEMBLY, DIRT AND WATER CAN INTRUDE. ALSO, MMC HAS ADDED THE POTENTIAL OF LEAKING MOISTURE, WHICH CAN CAUSE THE BALL STUD TO CORRODE.
Consequence:
THIS CONDITION COULD CAUSE THE LOWER LATERAL ARM BALL JOINT TO SEPARATE, INCREASING THE RISK OF A VEHICLE CRASH. THIS CAMPAIGN SUPERCEDES MMC'S PREVIOUS SAFETY RECALL CAMPAIGN, SEE 99V-066.
Remedy:
DEALERS WILL INSPECT THE LOWER LATERAL ARM BALL JOINT FOR WEAR. BALL JOINTS THAT EXHIBIT WEAR BEYOND THE ESTABLISHED TOLERANCE WILL BE REPLACED WITH NEWLY DESIGNED LATERAL ARM BALL JOINTS. BALL JOINTS THAT ARE WITHIN THE ESTABLISHED TOLERANCE WILL BE CLEANED AND A SPECIAL SEALANT WILL BE APPLIED TO PREVENT INTRUSION OF MOISTURE.
Notes:
OWNER NOTIFICATION WILL BE CONDUCTED IN PHASES. THE FIRST PHASE BEGAN APRIL 2, 2001, AND THE FINAL PHASE WILL BE COMPLETED ON SEPTEMBER 3, 2001. OWNERS WHO TAKE THEIR VEHICLES TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER ON AN AGREED UPON SERVICE DATE AND DO NOT RECEIVE THE FREE REMEDY WITHIN A REASONABLE TIME SHOULD CONTACT MITSUBISHI AMERICA AT 1-888-MITSU-2001 (1-888-648-7820). ALSO CONTACT THE NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRAFFIC SAFETY ADMINISTRATION'S AUTO SAFETY HOTLINE AT 1-888-DASH-2-DOT (1-888-327-4236).
As mentioned above, from another site, they say that all 2g's manufactured from 94-99 are potentially affected. |

3 bad experiences and I'm just . I'm sure it would be a bit different if I purchased a car from them, or maybe I just get the knobs everytime? |

Don't phone. I think you're trying to let your fingers do too much walking.
Go there in person and ask for what you want. |

I've been there in person, 3 times, I feel like letting my knuckles do the walking next time. I've only dealt with them over the phone recently with the recall check and they should be more than capable of handling a call over the phone, better yet via the internet, thats what this shit is for anyway and trust me I know, its my job.

i heard last year that west side mits was under investigation for telling there customers that they had done there recalls and charging the main company for the work but didn't bother to do the work. They are stupid salespeople down there and barely know what they are doing.

| silvermist, I'm gonna try Southside Mitsubishi next, although I had an encounter with one of their salesman last year who tried to get me to trade my done up eclipse gst in for a bagged out stock eclipse gsx and lose money, but thats just typical car salespeople. It's too bad that I've had these problems with westside mitsubishi because they are close to where I work. |

| I deal with westside Mitsu. I found when I talked to Ashley it was somewhat frusterating  ,any questions I had she had to go ask other Advisors to get any prices or info. When I got ahold of (I believe his name was) Norm he knew exactly what I was talking about and the service was fast and had me leave there happy. I think it is just bad luck dealing with the wrong people. Better luck in the future. |

I think that has been around for a bit now. I had it done to my car before I had it shipped and that was back in November. |
