First off I'd like to welcome you to the board, fairly new member here myself and more of a lurker than a poster, but nonetheless its nice to see some local representation from the edmonton area police services.
You mentioned in another post that you plan to run a '73 Duster next year. Do I take that to mean there will be 3 police campaigned cars, the RCMP Nova, City Police Duster and now yours?
Care to shed a few details about the Duster? BB? 408 sb like the CP Duster? ET expectations? Who will be the main promotor/sponsor? Etc.
There was also rumour of the Edmonton FD campaining a BB Monza. Fact or fiction?
See ya out at Bud. |

| I myself saw the FD race car at a carshow in St. Albert over a year ago. Have never seen it at the track though. |

I got to see the two cars race against each other, impresive I might say. Both ran mid to low 10's in the race I saw.

The YIELD Association is still in its infancy stages but here's where we want to see it go:
- 408 small block w/ approx 400 horses ... or Magnum 360 cid / 380 Hsp crate engine (hopefully low 12's)
- Automatic tranny,
- Centennial RCMP colours: Blue w/ white door,
- Ice cream pail roof lights,
- 100% street legal car,
There will be racing at Bud Park during summer months & presentations to schools in the off season as well as static displays for our sponsors & trade shows etc. I hope to combine the RCMP Rollover Simulator & Seatbelt Convincer in a number of the static displays as well. We'd like to get down to Medicine Hat track as well as Calgary for their Secret Street nights. We are also looking at door prize giveaways etc for the right circumstance.
As far as sponsorship ... any takers?????????? If anyone that works for a motorsport business would be interested in sponsoring "PLEASE" PM me. I think we'd like to look towards larger corporate sponsors providing the parts / pieces / funds etc with advertising going to both the corporation & an individual supplier. So if anyone has an advertising vice president in their pocket let me know!! Here's an example: "Jim's Audio Specialties" talks the stereo giant "Sonywood" into supplying the $5000 audio system & "Jim's Audio Specialties" installs. One supplies the parts & the other supplies the labour - pretty cheap advertising if you ask me. Here are some of the sponsorships we are looking at soliciting:
- a hotel & retaurant chain for extended trips,
- insurance company,
- driver training school,
- wheel / tire supplier,
- fuel supplier (for both the car & the tow vehicle),
- tow vehicle,
- 5th wheel car trailer,
- stereo system supplier,
- transmission builder,
- machine shop,
- upholstery supplier,
- t-shirt / cap / jacket etc supplier,
- sticker / decal supplier,
- paint & autobody supplier,
- oil supplier,
- miscellaneous supplier (rags, display tables, totes, light bulbs etc)
- tool supplier,
- tow vehicle accessory supplier (spray in bed liner, aux lights, bug deflector etc),
- cell phone system provider,
- storage facility,
and the list goes on & on & on ...................
If a private person wishes to donate to the "YIELD Association" it will be a non-profit organization & will be registered as a charity which will allow us to issue tax deductible receipts. There have been a number of businesses that have stated they will donate and I will definitely let you know who they are once everything is finalized!!!!!!! (some are from the list of the "to be solicited" from above). For anyone considering being a sponsor please let me know & I will provide you with a package showing what we expect from you & what you can expect from us (in the preparation stages).
The EPS Duster will still be around but I don't have much info on the status of the RCMP Nova. I haven't heard anything about the EFD putting together a car but that doesn't mean they're not. YIELD is also looking at getting into the "Sport Compact" class as well once the Duster gets up & running & holding its own. Any suggestions / guidance / direction will be greatly appreciated!!!

Hey, Jim whats with the auto tranny.. You intentionally trying to make it hard for your self ?. Or is is just keeping with the police idea of driving a big heavy car and not having to do anything but point the car and press the gas ? :P
Also stereo system supplier ? Its a Drag car is it not ? there are not many songs that are -10 seconds long for you to listen to..
Just wondering

I purchased the Duster w/ an A833 4-speed tranny & actually raced it a number of times @ Bud Park that way. The reason we're going w/ the automatic is two-fold: 1) there will be more drivers then just myself & not everyone is confortable racing a stick, and 2) we want a car that once built will not cost an arm & a leg to keep running ... as you know stick cars are harder on drivetrain parts then autos,
As far as the stereo question ... not only will we be racing but we'll also be putting on numerous static presentations to school students & the public in general. We also want to show that a car can be outfitted to the nines w/ accessories but still remain 100% street legal. Some of the accessories will be as follows: tint on rear windows, underglow lighting, aftermarket steering wheel & pedals, possibly spoilers, etc. Besides ... I think I can get the main point of the song "I fought the law & the law won" into about 12 seconds!!

| with 400 h.p and tromping on your gas pedal continuously it would be hard on your torque converter and rear end no? you're losin an easy 1/2 sec. with going with an auto... i thought you guys could drive anything under the sun :P |

| Auto's don't "shock" the drivetrain as much as Stick cars. You can put the car on the converter, essentially loading the drivetrain before mashing the pedal. With the manuals, that hp is delivered almost instantaneously, much harder on stuff that way, although on the big end your are going to typically see the manual cars MPH better to the lower frictional losses as compared to a conventional automatic. |

Ya.. I am sure my FWD 1.6L naturally aspired really has a hope.. I would say sure if you wana drive the 1/4 in reverse..
My car = STOCK 93 Civic SI... I would think about it if I had about 30Gs to throw into the engine compartment.. but thats not likely to happen..
Thanks for the offer though. |

I'd love to be able to say that but unfortunately for some it's not true. I would venture a guess that some members have probably never even driven a stick shift before. I've been lucky enough to pilot the RCMP Camaro when I was posted in Saskatchewan but never had the chance to tame the wild Mustang before they sent them out to pasture. The Impalas are great for winter driving, the Crown Vics are okay, the Tahoes are comfortable, the Suburbans are tanks on wheels, the crew cab pickups are real bears to turn around, and the LT1 Caprices are rocket powered land yachts. Oh yeah ... the boats, quads & skidoos are a blast. Did I mention the Twin Otter & the Pilatus (planes - just as a passenger mind you)? I have been very lucky to have been posted different spots where I got exposure to all of the above vehicles. Do I have a favourite - you bet ...

and i agree, the lt1 caprices are damn fast, my friend bought a lt1 taxi, and even for a clapped out 600000 km car, it hauls major ass. |
