Car-polishing seminar @ Pro Drag. June 11 (SATURDAY) - Click HERE for Original Thread

Markgase2000
I will be holding a basic polishing seminar at Pro Drag Performance for 780 members.

Heres the original thread I cut copied it here for events and meets purposes:

June 11 Polishing seminar @ Pro Drag

This is for serious enthusiasts only !
I will be giving a basic seminar in hand/power polishing paint finishes. I will try to be as informative as I can and answer as many questions to the best of my knowledge. This kind of detailed work requires time and patience so be prepared to spend some hours gawking. You may find some of my methods a tad unconventional but to say the least they all work with spectacular results.

We are going to use a Zaino Kit!!!!
I dont have any $$ but Blaine offered me a kit and he also will be holding a draw for another kit! I am anxious to give it a try!

I hope to see a good turnout maybe a few cameras taking shots. I can never make good shots you try and explain how a digital camera works to a old fashioned 57 year old man lol

OK anyhow June 11 10 A.M. Pro Drags shop be there and lets cut some paint!!

Blaine will post the adress and directions for those who havent found him yet.

Blaine also mentioned he has the new 780 decals and I asked him to make sure theres plenty.

I seriously hope to see many of you at this seminar it could be the only time you ever see me be serious about almost anything :) lol BE THERE!!

Yeah I thought the same thing too :p

I'm afraid I can't make it Mark. I have to work a ridiculous amount of overtime this weekend :(

SilverNeonRacer
I would go.. cept.. I'm hoping to be in my dad's garage swapping out 3 fuel lines and doing general tune up crap... Hopefully I'll be out to UC with the 5th, if I get it done in time....

DarrylBleau
What car are you going to be demoing on? Need a donor?

I dont think u should be using a power polisher to apply/remove zaino

CanuckDave

Zaino can be applied and removed by hand, or with a random orbital or dual-action polisher -- but not a rotary buffer. (there's a difference).

But I think the majority of what Mark is going to teach is how to CORRECT paint (cleaning, polishing, etc.), which is all done before you'd apply the Zaino. The Zaino is just the last step, and its JUST protection (very good protection mind you), nothing else.

A seminar on how to use Zaino shouldn't be required because the directions are clear (the website goes into a lot of detail). And that's probably the easy part compared to what Mark has to demonstrate.

I will be demonstrating how to manage speed , hold and move a polisher in the different steps. Im going to cover chemical cut/buff/shine teqniques I would use. I will show you all how to clean it before hand to ensure good compound adhesion. This car will also get a double whammy of paint sealant and conditioners my products coupled with the zaino system should make for some interesting results.

When we are done if this car is properly cared for afterwards you can expect it to look good for years and years. I know the UV inhibitors in my sealant products will last almost forever like 10+ years so you can imagine what a combo like this will last like.

For all those who cannot make it hopefully we can produce some pics from the demo. Give you guys a sample of what you missed and good pics to ask questions from. Im trying to get chrome dragon to photo shoot it but Im not sure he can make it out or not. Anybody can photo/video shoot this demo and please share the pics afterwards.

For those of you who have not met me and are wondering why I am holding a demo what its all about I can explain WHY I am holding this seminar. As a 780 Tuners member this is my contrabution to the group the group has overall impressed me enough to put on a free demo with no strings attached. I hope its not the last demo It would be great to show all of you who are interested so we can have the most lively looking show cars in edmonton as a whole.

A draw for a FREE ZAINO KIT somebody said thats worth $120!!!! This will be for the members who stick out the whole demo good luck on the draw!

The Demo Car Will Be the Silver Talon in Pro Drags Shop.
Feel free to bring your cars too after wards or during breaks I can asses them and suggest a good way about shining them up.

BE THERE!! 10 A.M. June 11

Challenge myself? What challenges? Silvers a bitch color to work on hard to see real results imperfections hide easy I have to find and delete them. A black paint job is easiest to fix IMO cus everything sticks out like a sore thumb :) and anything you do to black is gonna show results.

There's a nice black car there if you get bored of the silver one :). But do the silver car first of course.

LOL.... we're on the same page, just speaking a different language.

What I meant was you could do a half-assed job on a silver car and the untrained eye wouldn't know the difference. With a black car, you see everything, every flaw, etc. so you have to get it right.

I know what you're saying though. It is hard to make a silver car look GREAT, because a silver car looks like a silver car, whether its swirl free or not... its a hard color to make it "POP"... to really stand out.

s2oooR
thats why i say to go with black

Markgase2000
s2000 you mean to tell me I should make it easy for myself? LMAO! I can tell were gonna have a great time Im getting nervous!

Markgase2000
Well see well see...

DarrylBleau
If you do get bored, the black car I was refering to was the talon, a.k.a. Black Sunshine. It needs some TLC, it's feeling unloved. It's all Black but missing Sunshine.

it doesnt matter what color you do, a shined up black car is always gonna look better than a shined up grey/silver/white/whatever color car ...... and I'd love for you to prove me wrong :p

I may come out to see if i could use any of your "technique's" .... I like to think I do a pretty good job on mine ;)

I agree! :p

Although nothing will drive you to insanity like trying to get a black car totally there (swirl and flaw free).

One thing I gotta make clear tho: I dont really want my bosses to find out I am teaching people how to do this I may get fired. :( ill subtly ask them tho see what they think.
Good suggestion mike :)

ChromeDragon
They couldn't fire you for that.

All you have to do is put up a Ford banner and some business cards to bring them detailing business. They should give you a raise for this.

Of course they can.

Some employers frown upon their employees offerring the same services that they are under contract to do to others outside of the business because they are afraid of losing customers. As well, it's also a huge conflict of interest issue for some.

He isn't charging for it though. Regardless, he can do whatever the hell he wants on his own time. If he does it while they are paying him, then yes they could fire him.

By that mentality a mechanic couldn't work on his own vehicles at home, or friends and family's vehicles. Or computer techs couldn't help out their friends and families on their comp problems.

What do you do for a living? Have you ever used your skills outside of work? Well then maybe your work should fire you.

SilverNeonRacer
If he was in some way stopping customers from going to his other work... then yeah I see an issue, but if he works for a Ford Dealership or something... what are the chances of most of us, cept those with Fords going there.

Most places are more concerened about when a customer bitches about the cost and you say "Psst... here's my phone number, on sat I'll do it for much less"

Just because you have a job does not mean you are there for life until you do something wrong. Provided that the employer provides sufficient notice (Or pay in lieu of) they are allowed to terminate your employment at any time.

Link to a law firm detailing this:
http://www.duhaime.org/Employment/ca-wd.aspx

Typically people say they were fired unjust and did NOT receive any sort of payout. This is where the lawyers usually step in. However, when an employer pays the employee out appropriate they are allowed to dismiss them at will, for no reason whatsoever.

There are certain companies that won't let you use your skills outside of work because it can:
a) Comprimise your on-the-job integrity
b) Utilize company resources (as simple as industry contacts you've obtained through the company)
c) Company image

and many more

We've had people at work here for over 6 years fired on the spot, and given pay in lieu of notice (3 weeks/year of employment is what they offer here typically).

I have family who, as part of their job, are not allowed to do certain activities that relate to their job (directly and indirectly) because of the company policy. As the exact details are not for debate, there is no need to post them.

In answer to your sarcastic remark, yes I run a business in addition to my FT job. Yes I utilize my skills at both. Yes my FT job knows about it.

bigmack000
when i worked at save on i coudl get fired it i told soem one wehre something is at super store

My Dealership doesnt take in outside detailing jobs we cannot keep up with them as it is.

dc2696
