yes its the same motor, I6.
cressidas had them till 89 or something though.
there are some differences in the way some parts fit but they are almost identical.
if you have anymore questions feel free to email me or chat on msn, i'll answer any questions you may have. |

Hi Cougar_boy
Bingo! That is correct. I think the 5M was used in the Cressida's untill 1992 when they were discontinued. 3 Years later the Cressida was reborn under the Avalon. The 1995 to 1999 Avalons look very similar to the 1992 Cressida's.
In 1986.5 I believe the 5M was dropped from the Supra powerplant infavor of the 7MGE. In 1988 the 7MGTE (Turbo charged) was introduced to the mix.
There is a little Toyota History for you.

MX72 [WAGON] MX73 [SEDAN] 5MGE'S 85-88

ok don't make fun of me. but what is a solid rear axle mean? i have never head that there before. |

| Trowa |
well u know how in import cars u can usually take out the axels from the tranny/differential....just pop it off and replace....well with the solid rear azel it's one big thing, the differential and teh axels are one, this way it's much stronger ie can take more power BUT you can't have independent rear suspension with it, so its really good for drag racing but bad for handling....
and if anyone wants to do a better explaination plz go ahead lol

i will elaborate from what is above, solid rear axle is just as it says, solid, from left to right, moves as one unit. with IRS you need seperate axles, and a centrally mounted diff, to allow for the IRS, a supra has IRS, and for example a mustang/ camaro, have solid rear axles.
