I'm looking for a rental car for a 4 day road trip (Within Alberta), and figured I'll just rent a convertible mustang (Since I think Budget rents them, and always see them around). The mileage on Budget rentals is unlimited within the province, and their rates seem really cheap.
What I'm wondering, is I know in general that you can not reserve a specific car - I think you reserve a class of vehicle. And I'd hate to reserve a convertible and get a Sebring (Or something worse) when I'd really rather have the Mustang.
Is it possible to reserve a specific vehicle (with around 1 month notice), or am I stuck hoping when I reserve a convertible I get a Mustang? |

No they can't guarantee any specific vehicle, because right up until the moment you walk in the door, they can't guarantee which previous customers will have brought back their vehicles yet.
Customers say they're coming back at 10AM, and then show up at 4PM.............. |

| Trevor, 1st come 1st served. I rented a red convertible mustang at Budget off of yellowhead trail and 90st'? It was about $50/day unlimited mileage. Was a blast. The chicks dig the motorized roof. Budget off of Calgary Trail also has some exotic cars. |

So if I came by early in the morning on my day of booking I should have a good chance of getting one?
Do you have any details on the exotics (What type?)? Unlimited mileage? Rates?
I'd definetely be interested in one if it's reasonable - I don't get vacations often because I work so much, so if I could rent a little boxster, SC430, etc... it'd be worth it |

I took a roadtrip down to Vegas, California and Mexico with a couple friends after school ended last may. We rented from National, they ended up up-sizing our car to a 2004 Grand-Am. They must have had some deal then, because we didnt have to pay per km, but just a flat rate. We had it for 10 days, put 9000kms on it (yes, 9000kms) and paid a total of $700 for one of the best trips of our entire lives. Not too bad a price considering we were all under 25 and couldn't get the discount they offer to those above 25. Driving the 31 hours straight from Edmonton to Vegas was a blast.

| Where would be the best(cheapest) place to rent a diesel crew cab? It would be going out of the province so kms would be an issue. |

Nice - I'll have to give them a call and see if they offer unlimited mileage with them (As I'll be putting on 1000+ KM). |

ha ha you call a grand-am an upgrade? We rented a Sunfire in Quebec and they upsized it at no cost to a Cadillac DeVille cause they didn't have anything else. Now THATS upsizing! |

No, they don't. It's 100kms/day. 10c/km after that. |

Damn - that'll get expensive at 1000KM over 3 days since I imagine the car will be 70-90 per day alone...... |

I work for Airways and I'll just let you know diesel crew cabs are never cheap anywhere. Our rate is $95 a day with 100km included and 28 cents a km after that. And if you need insurance (most credit cards don't cover heavy duty trucks like that) it will be another $28 a day. With us that would get you a 2005 or 2006 (we have about 30 so far) Ford F250 or F350 XLT crew cab diesel 4x4.
You will also probably run into problems renting a truck like that from some places without a corporate account with the company. With us, you will need to provide a $2000 deposit to take out the truck. (cash or cc)
And if you are looking to tow with it, the cost will be higher (otherwise you will get one without a hitch). Not trying to discourage you, just that these trucks are over 50 grand and not many places rent them for cheap. :) |

After reading this thread this is all I can think of.
Jerry: I don't understand. Do you have my reservation?
Rental Car Agent: We have your reservation, we just ran out of cars.
Jerry: But the reservation keeps the car here. That's why you have the reservation.
Rental Car Agent: I think I know why we have reservations.
Jerry: I don't think you do. You see, you know how to *take* the reservation, you just don't know how to *hold* the reservation. And that's really the most important part of the reservation: the holding. Anybody can just take them. |

| I too wanted to rent a car but found being under 25 (24) is a bitch. adds a couple of hundered bucks on top of the rental fees. I called buddy at dollar rent a car and holy crap. a hard top was 800 bucks for a week and the rag top is 1200 for a week. I think it was 100 kms for each day and .25 for every one over. I keep hearing National is good to rent if your under 25, I'll have to call them. |
