Hi,
I was just wondering if there is a true Db sound limit that a vehicle has to adhere to and what it is and where can we have our vehicles tested before or after a ticket to make sure it is credible? Thanks for any help you can offer. :D |

| from what I've been reading, there is no such thing as noise level for stock vehicle, however, you have a chance to be ticketed once you change the muffler size(tip/piping) |

i always thought it was under 70Db before 11pm, and this applies to stereo, or exhaust/engine noise.
im probably wrong, but i know i got that number from someplace. |

The noise bylaw is in effect 24hrs a day......many people are unaware of this though.
It really doesnt have to much to do with exhausts unless you are driving around in a neighbourhood and you are getting many complaints.

| I heard its around 100Db before that but the cops play it by ear. Jim, can you clear this up? I know RCMP and EPS have different sets of rules on road noise I hear. |

| My car is extremely loud, but I am courteous when driving late at night in residential areas. |

God Benny, I wish you lived in my neighborhood...
There are two Red CRX's in my area and they ar armed with the usual assortment of stuff.
Intake and Muffler by Fartcan Inc.
anywhere from 12 pm in the afternoon to 2:30am in the bloody morning they tear in and out of the area and in front of my house blazing their POS mufflers all over the @#$%^ing place! G.D.I.A.!... and yes, even when I'm trying to sleep!
Atleast I'm courteous too, ever heard an external dump wastegate open up?
For me, anything that can annoy/ keep up / wake up anyone within half a block should get a ticket!!!. |

Just go find yourself a fair sized Yam/Sweet Potato and wedge it in thier exhaust. |

No, a potatoe won't work... I need something that will plug it up... like a Cantaloupe or Watermelon...
Then I'd take the Cantaloupe and huck it at the owner. |

I disagree...if you have a loud exhaust, and it is because you increased your pipe diameter, removed the cat and put on a high flow uffler, why should you get beat on when you actually did something over stock. Are race cars quiet? You cant have stock noise out of higher flow exhaust work. Now the riceboys with thier hondus with stock pipe and a massive resonating tip and 5 inch opening which does nothing for performance, then yeah, that is lame. Time to hit up the freash produce dept. |

| The systems I hate are the "poser" systems, big tips and from what I hear no advantage. There's this kid that always goes to my neighbors house and he's riced out his MX6, sparco window sticker but no seats and a huge loud and obnoxious muffler that I'm sure doesn't enhance the performance on his car. BTW it's also automatic so when you hear him driving it's always ultra loud.... I feel like sticking his peazy ass head up the muffler sometimes! |

I hear a packet or 2 or 50 of sugar in the fuel system is bad for your engine... Maybe try a bottle of liquid dextros for easy dispensing or something. :) |

why does a performance exhaust have to be loud??
there are cars in town that are pushing 300+ horses, and are nearly silent.
lol, hell, my buddys caprice has a lt1 and around 280-300 ponies and you have to rev it to see if its even running.
there are twin turbo supras running around alberta, with 4 inch pipes, no mufflers, and no cats, and theyre quiet until they get up around 5000 rpm where the turbo cant quiet muffle the sounds enough.
my old motorbike (95 zx6r) had a 3 foot straight pipe coming off the engine with a gutted muffler and it was quiet.
why cant a sport compact be a quiet car and still perform?
no, race cars are not quiet, but 80+% of us are not driving race cars, maybe street cars that see occasional race duty, but not race cars.
my question to the ricers and people with super loud pipes.... why would you pay lots of money to make your car sound like its poorly maintained? |

As helpfull as "shove a potato in the loud exhaust" is; I'd really like to know if there are any standard sound measurements we have to adhere to. The reason I ask is because I've had cops say everything from "nice car, kinda noisey" to "I should give you a ticket for that loud exhaust!". Now, becasue I have no exhaust valves and really big exhaust ports on my rotary wagon my car is loud with 2.5" pipe and a plain-jane Midas Turbo muffler. So I'm still stuck wondering if cops can really give me a hard time for it. :wtf:
