Someone from the main SE-R list in Canada named it (He's living in Europe now carving out a living with rally cars no pun intended)
It's a Fiat 126 650 E
Rear engined (that's what makes the video so funny), 2 cyl. air cooled, 650
cc. Made by Fiat of Poland up until 2000 - they actually made a 600cc
version for people who *really* like to save on gas. It also came as the 650
ES & 650 EK (Special & Komfort trim levels) A couple of years ago I rode
from Opole to Krakow in the back of one - it makes a Mini seem comfortable
and spacious by comparison. These are fairly common throughout Europe. I
believe they were also exported (from Poland!) to the UK and AUS.
Under communism, the next-highest vehicle in the pecking order was the "Big
Fiat" - a 128 sedan knock-off (like the Lada - only better build quality)
What's funny is the transformation since the end of communism - lots of
Mercedes, Audis, Renaults, BMWs in Poland now. |
