Hey guys, I recently picked up a 92 civic hatch, and i'm sure I don't need to tell 90% of you how much civics love rust.. My car isn't too bad - only one or two spots. Anyway, I am planning on getting the rust taken out of the body, having everything straightened out, and getting everything but the hood re-sprayed before the red cancer eats my car... I was just wondering if anyone could suggest a good shop to get this done at for a good price, or if anyone can hook me up with a deal. I am also wondering how much this could end up setting me back approximately. btw, I did look around for some of this info, but nothing really helped, so don't kick me in the nuts because I didn't use the searh button... Lol.. I have seen way too many guys get reamed out for that on Honda-Tech, so i'm just trying to watch my back... :fingersx:
Thanks guys. |

| You're looking at $3000 plus (And most likely more) for rust removal and a complete paint job from any reputable shop (If they will even take the job). |

Ahh, Honda-Tech = great training grounds to become a savvy discussion forum user :D
As for getting rust out & painting, lots of ppl seem to like Modern AutoBody.
I took my car to Reflections & am happy with their work.
Doug's Place has a good reputation as well. |

Is your car the orange FD? If it is, how much did it cost to get the work on your car done? |

if your referring to the orange FD..

Sean, Terry(Relflux) drives(if you can even say he drives it) a Black FC.
And yes, the orange FD is Rad's (CrazyRX7) |

Because some shops refuse to work on cars that are old and already in bad condition. Things may pop up during the body work that require more time than estimated (Like previous poor repairs), and more than the vehicle is worth (like in this case).
When this happens, and the shop is concerned about turning out a quality product they can't just let themselves overlook these flaws and be proud of the job that they did. |

You can't say whether there's been previous damage that's poorly repaired. Or rust spots forming, just not bubbling through yet.
Old cars are a bitch to work on - I know I refuse to work on old cars if I think they might be trouble. |

Yea i gotta cut out some rust.. and weld in new panels.. but it's minor.. either way.. a bodyshop is a bodyshop.. they pretty much have to take the job if u have the money. |

No they don't.
Any shop that's not busy will take you no problem - problem is, the good ones are ALWAYS busy.
Go to Joey's - tell them what you want done, and on what car you want it done on. Either they will tell you no, or quote you so high that you will go away.
Cutting out rust and welding in new panels is NOT minor when done properly. A good shop charges 1000/side to put on new quarters.... |

| Yea but it's not the whole panel.. it's just a bit at the bottom.. i've worked at 3 bodyshops.. you can cut it out.. and weld in a new panel... you don't have to rip out the whole quarter. |

If you have that much experience why aren't you painting it yourself then? |

| i would pick up some basic body repair books and prep the car myself. The actual paint doesn't cost that much your paying mostly for the prep work. |

Costs $500 for the actual paint/clear coat - even less if you want to use single stage or acrylic enamel.
The downside is, if you prep it yourself and bring it to a shop they most likely won't warranty their work....Since prep work is a huge factor is the quality of a paint job. |
