ok. So I downloaded Battlefield 2 off a guys FTP. So I know it works but when I try to extract it with winrar it keeps telling me it's corrupt. I also downloaded simcity 4 off him and that said it was corrupt as well when I tried to extract it. but I want to get battlefield to work. The files that are in winrar are .mds and .mdf I have never seen those ones when extracting games before. Anyone know what the problem is here?
Thanks for any help. |

So we lock post about illegal street racing, but not about illegal game piracy...?
bunch of hipocrites
Anyhoo.
First of all, don't steal games.
Second, if you do, don't steal games that are esstially online only.... but you can't play online with-out a CD-key cause it's stolen software anyways.

don't forget about music and movies. anything that has to do with warez should be deleted, but the mods have more important things to worry about |

yes I do have more important things to worry about like my real life, this is the first I saw of it and will address it accordingly now. as far as the use of and ways to obtain copywritten material the laws in canada differ greatly from those in the US which is what you all seem to base your opinion off of.
The canadian rules and regulations as far as music downloading are concerned are covered by the tariff you pay on your blank media allowing you to freely download and copy media. when it comes to software the rules are slightly different, though not 100% illegal.
now as far as the original post goes chances are part of your download is corrupt and you will need to redownload at least the corrupt files if not the whole program again |

Thanks i tried extracting it again and I read the error a lil more closely this time and it was one of the files. So I redownloaded that file and now it works.
And for "Mustard" sorry I forgot that everyone in the world does everything by the book and never breaks any laws. I am sorry some of us just are not as perfect as you and have never broken the law before in our lives. Again sorry and I know I should not have subjected others to this kind of wrong doing. |

btw, mds and mdf can be open by an virtual-rom program.
example Alcohol 120%
you can burn it or put it in the virtual rom to run it directly.
Street race kills !
priate will only kills the industry.
and oh, you can do a test and find out which is file is corrupt. |

Ya I got it to work. I downloaded Alcohol 120% but I don't like it compared to Daemon tools. Daemon tools seems a lot easier. As for the game I tried extracting it again and it was the .r39 file which was corrupt. I just redownloaded it off the guys FTP again and tried extracting again and now it all works.
BTW Battlefield 2 is an amazing game
Thanks |

| Give me a break I'm sure the mp3's you've downloaded all have written consent from the artists right? Everyone pirates one way or another no ones perfect the difference is that piracy hurts the pockets of those who are wealthy while street racing takes lives away. |

The way I see it they need to quit trying to mark things up 2000% and then piracy would be more hassle than it's worth.
If a CD is costing them 25cents to produce, they're basically charging $20 simply for the "intellectual property" and making billions of dollars in profit.
even out the marketplace, make it a more realistic value, and piracy would starve. Like a 100% or 200% mark-up.
But that won't happen of course, they'll just fight it, and lose. |

What about development costs...?
i'm not acctually taking sides here, i'm just stating a fact.
I just like rattling cages... i only brought up this thread because my thread about something else was deleted quickly and unfairly... (i won't say which one) where-as this one stands...
wooops, i think i just broke another vague guideline... |
|

| Z3r03rr0r |
| well it may have something to do with the fact I am the mod in the computer section and I know the regulations when it comes to music and movie downloads, as well as the grey area that is software downloading. Maybe you should actually read up on it before coming in here stating what is illegal and not. |

Hey Bubba, you're the one with 720+ posts in with the "hipocrates"
What's worse, calling someone a hipocrate, or hanging out with hipocrates while you're calling them hipocrates???
Who's the hipocrate now? :p :D
I think I overused the word hipocrate... |

I was ready to point out that wrong spelling, then i got to page 2 and my hopes were shattered :(
When I win the lottery I will purchase all my music and movies, until then, I shall be Aladdin, and the internet shall be my city that he lives in that I cannot think of the name for (agrabah?).
Wow that was lame. |

Mustard:
Vague laws are all around you, take a look at just the Traffic Safety Act, tell me how many clear cut laws are in that.
I don't mean to be harsh but rather I aim to provide you with alternatives that may be more satisfactory for you.
If you are unsatisfied with something, there is a "Suggestions" subforum found in RUBORED2. Make a constructive post about what you're unhappy about, how you would like to see it changed and do so in a mature & polite manner.
The Admin take posts like that much more seriously than people who just complain but offer no constructive solution.
If that doesn't appeal to you, there is always the option of removing yourself from the community with Vague Guidelines or laws.
But it may be difficult to do since wherever you go, you will find yourself on a continent where Vagueness is the common theme to rules & laws.
Maybe cross over some water & check in with Communist Cuba or China?
I'm pretty sure their laws are much more straight forward since they don't have to deal with this "Freedom" mumbo jumbo.
AND finally to stay on topic:
It's hassles like these in downloading full version games off the internet that make it not worth my time to try & fix them.
I'd rather spend a few bucks, support the local community & save myself much headache and frustration. |
