Strut Tower Rust - Click HERE for Original Thread

mr_sars
I was wondering if it's possible to repair rust on the front strut towers without compromising the entire car. :( The rust has gone through and has started to create holes in one my cars. I'll have pictures up later today, but I highly doubt anyone would be willing to even try to fix this kind of a problem.

Hi mr_sars,

Best thing for you to do is to take to an autobody shop for estimates. I think chances are pretty good that it will cost alot or that no one wants to take the job. You may be better off having someone weld a new front clip on to the car. (Not the body pannels, but underneath the pannels, I do not remember the exact name) but again, this can be an expensive repair.

I guess the question is how much do you like your vehicle? You could always sell it and obtain the same one with no rust? :dunno:

Haha I don't even know why I asked this question because when I first saw the car I already knew I was knee deep in the shitter. It's a known fact that no body technician in the world would risk their career on something like repairing rust on the strut towers. It's just too dangerous, and besides, it wouldn't be like new if it was repaired.

Now I'm in a really confusing situation which I'm going to explain in another thread; else I'd just be jacking my own thread...

What kind of car is this on?

The administration does not allow me to post in the feedback forum but I saw the pictures of your inner fenders.
It doesn't look that bad in my opinion. I thought the actual strut tower mounting points were rotted through.
That doesn't look structural to me. No bodyman likes to warranty rust repair though.

mr_sars
Most of the rust is situated along the lining, but there's also bubbling going on along the front side of the tower.

I knew it was an S13 as soon as I saw the title of the thread. I'm taking mine into the bodyshop this week to repair some other damage from an accident, and I am going to ask their opinion.

mr_sars
:dunno: Yeah it's actually strange. I've gotten mixed replies, some telling me to cut it out and mig weld it, while most of them tell me to just junk the car. Regardless of the fact, I'm still buying the car, but repairing it is the biggest issue.

In the end, most bodyshops are afraid to do that kind of work and ended up turning me away. Welding isn't my strongest point and I don't have any of the necessary tools as well.

All I'm gonna say is - That's why we are trying to bring in stock to sell, rather than selling brokered cars that nobody gets to see until they are already here.

If there is anything we can do to help - let us know.

Thanks,
Richard.

i don't know if i'd cut them out and weld new ones in myself.
