From what I understand you must be 18 years of age or older to be with a person who holds a class 7 license. As long as the car is completely insured with PLPD and you have permission from the registered owner it shouldn't be a problem. On the same token i'm not sure how ticketing works, it's been a while since I"ve been with someone who's held a class 7, but I think you're responsible to make sure that the person you're "instructing" obey's the laws.... Speeding tickets and other tickets are no no's from my understanding... hopefully this helps.
on the otherhand i'm sure if you were at a party with a friend who had a class 7 and you were wasted I think they could drive or at least i'm sure the police would rather them drive!
Like I said, it's been a while since I've looked into this so you'll want to check around or wait till Jim replies. |

| From my understanding, the "instructor" needs to be sober and at least of legal age with a class 5 licence. |

I would agree, but in worst case scenerio.... I think they'd rather have the learner driving sober than the instructor driving drunk?!

Again, it's all said in that little book they give you to study from for your learners, so maybe you ought to pick one up for yourself to clairify this issue... |

Here's the lowdown;
This answer is correct only up until the graduated licence program comes into effect (I can't say an exact date for that though).
Class 7 drivers must have an instructor with them who holds at least a valid class 5 licence & the instructor must be at least 18 years of age. The instructor must be in a position to take control of the vehicle or at least give direction should the learner require it. Should the instructor be in a condition of impairment by drugs (illegal, prescription or over-the-counter) or alcohol ... he or she could be charged w/ care & control while impaired (plus possibly over .08 depending on the breath sample readings). Please note I stated impaired w/ no specific blood alcohol level - people don't realize that it is possible to be impaired but not be over the legal limit!!!!! As far as whether or not the officer will charge is up to their discretion. With all of the alternatives available the Red Nose program, free ETS on New Years, Designated Driver program, etc ... there really is no reason for this situation to occur - that of course is just MHO.
As far as insurance ... the vehicle must possess at least $200,000 PLPD for anyone to operate it. Some insurance companies have conditions on their policies that require drivers age 25+ only. Please check w/ your insurance company to be sure. If I have concerns about someone's insurance I contact the company (not broker) direct to determine if that driver is covered. This is one area where it is a really expensive lesson to learn the hard way!!!
