Does anybody know where the best place to look for a Honda Civic Hatchback would be? It would not really matter the year, hopefully sometime in the 90's.
What are the model names and series of the Civic Hatchbacks? I am just trying to learn as much as I can. So just bear with me guys. Thanks :D |

Try the Bargain Finder, Auto Trader and the good ol' newspaper.
I found my CRX in Calgary. One week, my girlfriend says to me, "let's do it, let's go get you a CRX." Seriously, well, not exactly like that but pretty close to it. One weekend we left for Cowtown and upon arriving, bought a Bargain Finder, Autotrader and a city map. I came back with one 1991 CRX dx in great shape, these cars are known for rust and mine had almost next to none. Another guy I know did the same thing when he got his CRX. If you do your research, you'll probably fined that used cars are cheaper in Calgary. I did, anyways.
If you want to learn more about Civics, do a search on the web. Once you decide on a certain generation you can do a more refined search into what kind of mods, tricks and just general maintance about these cars. I found the Honda Shop Manual for mine. I now know how to adjust the steering rack in my CRX the Honda mechanic way.
Good Luck,

To answer your next question.
I'll start with the years that you'll still be able to find.
3rd gen Civic - '84 to '87 - Avg Price: $100 - $2000 Depending on model. My knowledge of the Civic in this gen is limited to the CRX.
4th gen Civic - '88 to '91 - Avg Price: $ 1000 - $7500.
This generations you'll find, from lowest model and up. The CX, DX and then the Si. The Si had the 1600cc engine and the MPFI system. Netted approx. 109 hp. This is the trim model you'll mosty likely want to get if you wish to do further performance mods easiest. The dx had the DPFI engine that had 1500cc good for ~91 hp.
5th gen Civic - '92 to '95 - Avg Price: ??
after the 4th gen civic my knowledge gets limited. My girlfriend has a 93 dx and they are quite fun to drive.
a few sites to visit.

CIVIC CODES Chassy (most of the time this is just for JDM stuff that you want this)
EF - 88 - 91
EG - 92 - 95
EK - 96-2000 (98-2000 rear tail lights (sedan) and headlights + hood fenders, front grill and bumper cover were changed slightly)
The new ones are EP right ? or is that just the SIR? |

In my personal opinion.. you best choices are these..
91-(ONLY THE 91) CRX SIR / SIR2
92-95 Civic SI (US EX for the coupe) unless you car going for a engine swap then get a lower model
96-2000 SIR
2000 + get the SIR even though it looks like a mini oddissy..
I know lots about the EG civics if you need some help there =) |

yeah, the 92-95 Civic is considered the easiest car to mod because every aftermarket manufacturer makes products for it.

I believe SIR only came out in 99 and 00. Then of course 2003+.
But I second that EG is the most handsome civic! :) |

| EFs are ulgy IMO.. not enuff curves. the EGs have a better stance and look more european styled then the EFs by far.. |
|

| No way! EF has a look all on its own, a little classic 80's with a little modern style. |

| I have a 93 EG Hatchback , I think if done write it is the pimpiest Hatchback around. I have seen some so sexy it makes me weak in the knees. But I agree with most its very affordable to start out with, I paid $5000 for mine in good shape, and it is very easy to get aftermarket parts for it and they are very easy to work on unless every flippin bolt is rusted and seized solid. ( my car came from down east, watch out!!!) I have seen them in the auto trader for between $6000-$7000. If you can, go with a 95 Si-R III JDM , good luck! |
