"Buddy", I think you misunderstood me. I'm not being defensive and the post I quoted said:
quote: As for most of the other comments that I've read in this post, it's the same things I read after every other car show. There was too much show and not enough go, most of the cars looked stock looking, some of the cars looked dirty, cars in the parking lot were better, there were too many skylines or z cars, there wasn't enough variety of cars,
I KNOW that's not the post author's own view, but which part did I mis-read? It says TOO MANY Skylines or Zs, not "wasn't enough". |

| fuck who gives a shit lets see some pics of the show, isnt THAT what this thread is about :dunno: |

| Only thing i don't like about skylines is.. most of them come modified from japan.. and the owner takes them as is to a show.. and they win something.. when the owner hasn't done any of the work.. and is pretty much taking credit for someone else's. |
|

My statement about "there were too many skylines and z cars" was a general statement. I just picked those type of cars but could have replaced them with civics or preludes.
It was just to state a point that you just can't please everybody. There is either too many of one type of vehicle or there wasn't enough...
It's all funny when you bring car clubs into the mix (i.e. edmonton prelude club) and they bring a large number of the same type car (i.e. prelude). You get people saying, there were too many preludes at the show... |

Yep, and the people that make those kind of comments obviously missed the whole point of a car club's display to begin with.
Those kind of complainers are also probably the same people that don't step up and put their own cars in the show. |

There sould be less "why was X car there" and more "Why isn't there an X car here?" And far too many people are going to car shows to look at models. WTF?
It looks like it was a pretty decent show, sorry I missed it. And too bad the Wolfpack didn't make it out. I know that would have added some variety to the show.
As for the boosted Sunfire, awesome to see. It's a car that gets shit on day and night, and it's nice to see someone taking pride in it, and making something out of it.
Would you rather see 10 Hondas and a Pontiac, or 11 Hondas?
That SSR is hot, too. I got sandwitched between him and a 1st gen viper SRT-10 a few weeks back, and the SSR sounded beautiful. Made the Viper sound like garter snake. |

depends which Hondas :p As for the boosted Sunfire maybe he could pass for a honda since he has the S2000 kit on it. Thats some creative shit:bthumbup: and IMO looks better on the sunfire then the S2K, not a big fan of that kit on the S2K but yeah, good job on the car:bthumbup: |

No offence to 780 or the orginizers of the dtp shows but it feels like they have lost tuch of what makes our comunity what it is , car guys , (and girls) not a vendor that wants to pay lots to hand out lanyards , dont get me wrong e-z is just doing what they can for good busness . but it is getting out of hand . mabey the show should move to a less expensive venue to relive some of the finacial brden markis has to cover . mabey the be bop human beat box beakdance competitions should be held at a rave party . typically these people are not car guys and the people that want to see that arnt either, wallet chans and spiked jewlary and cars dont mix . i would aim the show more towards a car lovers event not a dance extravaganza .
and i am not griping here , i put on a show evry year that is in now way the same as these shows and the work it takes is huge . so props
i feel the the drag events turn out way better , because when it comes down to it cars drive right .... .. just my two cents . ... ps i know my spelling sucks

| paying someone. Isn't that pretty mucha sponsorship? Instead of giving free parts or cheaper parts or free or cheaper service they just pay them cash. IMO that is still a type of sponsorship. Kinda like some companies that pay people money just to put a decal on their car. I am sure if it were any other shop though it would be ok.:drama: |

I'm with you on that. I bought my car with a handful of stuff done to it because it was a good price, but I've already taken most of it off adleast twice to work on it and have built on since. I've done bodywork before but I've moved onto painting now as well, there is no satisfaction like the satisfaction you get when your work turns out. |

I agree with certain points about the models but with regards to having them banned b/c they did 0 work ummmm thats like pretty much everyone... you think the alpine guys did all the work themselves on their cars aside from supplying the stereo? They probably got a shop to do it and plastered that car with their logos same thing... I can voiche that Garage Works did all the mods on my car i ordered the parts and they installed most of it. and did work on the other cars in the booth too. Its just much sweeter to win an award for the work you actually done and not bought out.. like the NHL you can work hard an get a great team on the ice through the famr teams and great draft picks or you spend shit loads of money on free agency and get the best players during their prime years to win the stanely cup. It happens everywhere so relax EZ shouldn't be banned for paying ppl to come to their booth yes it looks bad and yes if they won anything it isn't the same feeling as winning something you worked on but still shouldn't be banned... as for the models yea i think thewy should be warned or maybe even banned from having models at shows. |

OK I guess I'll post cause 111 other posts cant be wrong.
If you work on your car yourself...take pride in your work. I know I have picked up a lot of new skills this way.
If you pay someone to do work on your car...take pride in the choice you made. I would rather choose a good mechanic than try to be one.
If you put your car in a show be sure it is clear if it can be touched or not. Get it on paper for boh sides.
My 2 bux anyway |

Yes but there's a limit to how much prop or pride a person like this should have.
Should this person try to claim to others to be more knowledgeable about his car or mods than the guy who did all or most of it himself?
Should this person be touted as having done a "better job" with his car just because he had a lot of money and went down the list in the catalog and bought every part he thought sounded cool? (Compared to the guy who takes his time and carefully researches each piece at a time and actually plans things out?)
At the very extreme, for the person that just hands his car to a shop and drops $20k-$30k to have it transformed into some street monster or show queen (or both).... what exactly is he being rewarded or congratulated on? Having a lot of money to begin with? Having the nerve/freedom,etc. to SPEND that sum of money that way? Listening to perhaps what OTHER people had told him he should do/buy? or... what?
Of course the opposite end of that extreme is you could reward someone for spending NO money on his car, and doing no work on his car, either himself or via a shop... and what does that leave? Probably a very boring car show. :p No one wants to look at just a bunch of stock cars...
So a balance needs to be found, eh. |

This reminds me so much of my car. I bought it semi-modded, had a paintjob, kit, some upgraded turbo parts, and a few other odds and ends. The price was right for the amount of stuff on it and thats pretty much the only reason I bought it, why spend triple for the same result. My project is not even half complete and I've spent countless hours working on my car since I bought it and have either had to redo, replace, or rework most of everything that was done to it. Occasionally when I talk to my buddy that I bought it off of I'll get comments like "How's my car" and "I know more about the parts in that car than you do" yet this guy can barely use a screwdriver. So yeah, wheres the balance? Here's a good example - orangeteg has(or had for a longtime) a decal on the sides of his car with his mechanics name. |
|
|
| HeavyEarly87T |
I guess that I did not express myself clearly.
If you pay a shop to do your work. They get the credit for the work. No imposters.
Of course you spend 3 years building a car and have a shop tune it for that final personal best 1/4 mile time...who gets the credit?
You built the car but with out the shop that time may not have been reached.
Hummm....sorta bakes the noodle eh? |

2. What do you want, the car wasn't even registered for voting! It's not like it was put in the show just for that purpose. It was in the car show as a promotional car for the Skyline Shop.

Well not everyone is a mechanic you know. I know alotta people who just love cars and want theres to be a little more unique than others, so they get professionals to do the work for them.
If said person claims to be more knowledgeable about his car than someone who is mechanically inclined, hes a moron and why even listen to what he has to say.
I think mainly what someone like this can be proud of is the fact that his car can smoke yours on the TRACK/ look nicer in a showroom, regardless of how it became that way, hes the one behind the wheel.

Can't say I was overly impressed with the models all over my car, I found a picture of ones heel on the hood of a car, and not to mention my car some chick put her nice heels into my new front end....not happy. This was our first car show my husband and I put our car in and I have to say I had a blast, it was a new experience and most of the cars there were hot. The girl who won for best female, you kicked my ass. We've worked our butts of doing everything ourselves, from lowering to painting the rim, lights, the headers, exhaust and even the tv we put in it. I really enjoy playing with my car and I really do take pride in it because I know it is something I did and not someone else. Can't wait one day to win! I know it don't look like too much now, but we want to get a new paint jobs, just trying to think of of something new and original....and we want more engine modifications. I sympathize with the people who had their cars messed with. It was unfortunate. But as far as alarms go, NO ONE should've had their alarms armed during the show. Everyone was supposed to have their batteries disconnected AFAIK, unless otherwise allowed because of car audio demonstrations or whatever.
Even the few alarms that did go off during the course of the show were F#%$#*) annoying!!! |

so what you are saying is they only crawled on cars when the owners weren't around. man that's low don't even have the respect to ask the owners if it is ok. then scratch and or dent there shit. plus it is kind of the photographers fault for not doing anything either since he was taking the picks. |
