Actually it's a Female Hair Style theory but anyways...
Just to start things off, please keep in mind that a basic definition of a THEORY is that it is an "unproven assumption," so this Theory of mine is not a LAW and obviously there are exceptions to the outline I will provide.
This will be broken down by hair style, each followed by a basic explanation of what it means.
All explanations of hairstyles are assumed that it is a style the girl/woman wears most often.
The Bun:
-When a woman wears a bun it signifies that there is something she is holding onto which she can not/will not let go. The tight fitting, curled, close proximity of the hair to the head reflects an uptight and determined mindset.
The Bun can be combined with the High Worn & Mid-Way Single Pony Tail style but not the Low Pony Tail, for the requirement of a Bun is for it to be tight. A low worn Bun is rarely tight.
The Split Pony Tail:
-The Split Pony Tail shows a split in personality. A division in what the woman wants to be or how she wishes to act. She is unsure of where she fits in society and this is displayed by the separation of her hair.
The Split Pony Tail can be combined with the Bun into a "Split Bun" style. It can also be combined with the High/Mid/Low set Pony Tail.
The Bangs Clipped to the Side or Hair Band:
-Bangs clipped to the side says that the woman has much to do and does not wish to be bothered. But it is only temporary for if it were permanent, there would be no presence of Bangs because Bangs are a maintenance item.
Clipped bangs is an "out of my face" hair style.
The High Worn Single Pony Tail:
-The basic premise for the following 3 Single Pony Tail styles is infulenced by Freud. The Pony tail is representative of a phallus and the height of the phallus represents sexual activity.
In the High Worn Single Pony Tail, a woman wearing such a style is considered to have a higher sex drive.
The Mid-way Single Pony Tail:
-Same as above but medium intensity sex drive.
The Low Single Pony Tail:
-Low sex drive.
Straight Down, past shoulder length:
-This relatively plain style is indicative of a patient lady. A woman who is willing to deal with the inconveniences of having hair blow & move all about her has a tendency to be more relaxed in life. And in having this type of hairstyle, it shows that she is willing to put in the time & effort to make it work. This willingness to put in such effort can be paralleled to the rest of her life.
The type of hairstyle where this theory begins to break down is upon analyzing the short styles. A "bob cut" or chin length hair.
Due to the uncompromising nature of such a haircut, there isn't much flexibility in how it can be styled. Indications of sexual drive are low & at best have a weak correlation since it is difficult to put chin length hair in a pony tail.
There is the possibility that having chin length hair portrays a woman of flexibility or in transition. Since the hair is in a middle stage, there is always the option of growing it out, keeping the same length or cutting it shorter. This hair length can signify movement in her life.
But once we are past this "middle" stage of styles and we delve into the much shorter cuts, styles that can be spiked or even a short shaven look, some inference can be drawn.
Spiked hair:
-Spiked hair denotes an aggressive nature in the female. The sharp raising & "pointy" hair give off an aggressive air & demeanor. It is also an "out of my face" style that can signify the woman has other things to concentrate on than frivolous hair.
Shaven:
-It is not common to see a woman with a head shaven for fashion or looks, typically it is for reasons of low maintenance but further study is required to provide a more satisfactory analysis.
There is always the possibility that women with more "masculine" hair styles wish to take on a more masculine appearance.
For the most part, the hairstyles listed are major divisions in styling. One will always be able to find small variations of hair styles such as:
-Straight down crimped
-Permed pony tail
-Various colors
-Etc.
But for the most part, this list is indiscriminate of hair color, natural curl or natural part.
There have also been studies on the parting of Male hairstyles saying a man who parts his hair from left to right is more assertive than a man who parts right to left.
But nothing conclusive was found.
Again, this is only a theory. A theory always has exceptions and can be proven wrong. If it could not be proven wrong it wouldn't be a theory but more of a Law or Principle. |

I'd say you're on the right track. I had a teacher in Junior High who always wore a bun when she was in a pissy mood (she put her hair in lots of buns BTW) and had her hair down when she was in a good mood. We figured it was an indicator of wether she got laid or not the night before.
